@Handle: It's as much a lifestyle thing as anything. Pinkie Pie eats almost nothing but sugary baked goods, and Rainbow Dash is an athlete. If a big part of your life was exercise and physical healthiness and your significant other never exercised or cared about their diet, it might create some friction. Plus, even without the Rule of Funny explanation (note that Pinkie Pie catches up to Rainbow Dash in "Griffon the Brush Off" by hopping really slowly), being able to run for a bit is not the same as being healthy (ofc, I might be biased since I picture Pinkie as a bit on the chubby side).
Pinkie Pie is certainly enthusiastic and loyal, but she is also incredibly naive. Like JT said Pinkie Pie doesn't really use the same definition of "serious" as other ponies, and her goofy approach to problems doesn't always work in realistic situations (ex: "A Friend In Deed" and "Baby Cakes").
I'm not saying the story concept is perfect. I actually outlined it and tried writing the first chapter, but it just didn't gel. But it's essentially a Romantic Comedy about how opposites attract, so I figured there might be a usable idea in there for a better writer than I.

"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."That ain't me. Better if you could feed me ideas taht made you go "Too Easy! This is beneath my skills! Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.By Celestia and More Cushion for the Pushin' could fall into that category with some adjustment—both are pretty shallow.
You could also try these;

I also had an idea for a crossover with Soul Calibur (Trixie gets corrupted by a piece of Soul Edge, Chewing the Scenery ensues) or Awesomenauts (Pinkie plays the role of Ayla, Twilight plays the role of Voltar, Hilarity Ensues when the former tries to throw a party for the latter). Neither were terribly exciting, so I deleted their story entries.

"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."@Handle If you want it, you can use that idea I had from this image, about Smarty Pants going Toy Story and/or dream warrior and have adventures protecting lil Twi in her sleep. In any way you want to do it; I don't think I'll have the time or the energy to do that one and the HIE at the same time.

8.5? You doing a clop chapter?
Fanfiction I hate.No. No clop. I don't consider myself capable of writing porn. I don't write anything where I can't understand what the character would feel. It's a flashback chapter. Technicaly I've already had one, but that one was narrated by Luna and Celestia to give insight into the current threat. This is just background.
Out of curiosity, where do you draw the line between generally not caring for a fic and actively disliking it enough to, well, give it a dislike? I just gave only my second downthumb ever on Fimfic (not counting ones on comments), and it's an odd feeling, since there are tons more I could downthumb but I generally don't think they're worth the effort. (I got the same vibe here but I read the first chapter anyway as I like a later fic by the same author, and I've got a third on my list as it sounds kind of like "Harmony Theory with Rarity" in setup, but a page into this and I knew I should have trusted my instincts.)
The line between average (as in unexceptional/competent) and mediocre (as in inferior/lacking) can be pretty blurry, so it's hard to say if I have a concrete set of standards. I'm pretty loose with my downvotes, though.
If I enjoyed reading something I upvote it, even if that enjoyment included flaws. If something was So Okay, It's Average I don't vote, but leave a comment to that effect, though I may make an exception on either count if it was aggressively boring. If I can't finish the first chapter of a story, that's always downvote material. I also downvote lots of stories without reading them, based on their concept or description. There is also a small list of authors that I always downvote whenever I see one of their things.

"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."8.5 was my idea. Well the making it 8.5. It was originally part of chapter 8 but, it didn't really fit. The story just, cut to it out of nowhere. No context, no real set up besides a mention of the Four about which of them was the first to die, and then BOOM! Cut scene about the battle where she died that we know nothing about what is going on, who is fighting, why, anything. And it just was really jarring. So suggested setting it as it's own mini-chapter to keep that backstory, but not wreck the flow of the chapter.
I think I've thumbed-down 5–10 stories in total. The stories I thumb-down are either messes of spelling/grammar mistakes that shouldn't have gotten past the story approvers in the first place, or stories that manage to offend me enough that I explicitly want to hurt the story's like/dislike ratio. Usually those are stories that promote a moral I feel is destructive.
If you want examples, two stories I've thumbed-down for non-writing-quality reasons are Rogues Anonymous and We Live In a Kind World.

Geez, I'm surprised you didn't let loose more in your comment on that first one. Waiting until the last quarter to tell us that it's another fricking Mare-Do-Well Accusation Fic? The fact that Celestia was in on it really pushes it over the edge. Hello #3.
For context, the last one was this (note the story length, no less). First one was The Monster We Made, because that was NOT Twilight. Typographical messes generally fall under my "not worth it" banner.

I think I might've given something a downvote at some point, but I'm actually not sure.
Fanfiction I hate.Making up official titles for Celestia and Luna is fun.
I didn't write any of that.and the 6th story in the Austraeoh series has now been posted
one of the only stories I've ever downvoted was one where the description started out like "after Celestia killed Twilight's friends..."
and that's basically all I read before downvoting.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I've only ever downvoted two stories: one where the author in particular had to work pretty hard to make me do as much (including using some very questionable meta tactics in and on the story itself) and another that left a bad taste in my mouth. Actually, both really did as much overall, but the second had that as a very first impression, whereas the first required a bit of time to build up the disgust.
Generally, I don't vote unless I feel I have at least a decent grip on the story. The kind of iffy thing to this approach is that I also don't vote when I'm neutral on a fic. Usually I try to leave some kind of comment on the impression I got, but there's also been a few I just couldn't think of anything notable to put into words.

FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiPlease don't tell me Skirts is serious about the Austraeoh series being twelve books long.
Does anyone here read the series? I gave up at the end of Eljunbyro and I really want to know what happened, even though I don't have the patience to read Skirts's incredibly padded writing style.
Like I said, I should have known.
Same. There are plenty of stories I don't like but I think can be chalked up to differences of opinion and are otherwise decent, so I feel comfortable upvoting or can't one way or the other (the previously discussed Lullabies Unsung being among the latter). Though now I'm curious about the two you mentioned.
Still on my list in spite of all that's been said about them. Spoiler tags, please!

So, all the stories in this series have, like, titles that aren't... words?
Also, maaaaaan is the Fall of Equestria series stupid. It's like "man, what."

Fanfiction I hate. They are words. Just not English words.
Ah.
Well, I just finished a draft of chapter 33 of The Book of Friendship.
The "twenty-five minutes a day" method really works!
Fanfiction I hate.Yeah.. it is rather stupid.
Hmm down votes... outside shit that was basically troll fics.... only one I can think of not only down doing, but wishing there was an anti-fave button as well. Octavia takes the Bus. By far the WORST Ponyfic i've ever read.
1. Not even, in anyway pony. Nothing in it is 'pony' other then the characters being equine. But, the whole story, it barely matters, except for the few times the story remembers and throws in a bit about it. but, oh it's an "AU" that explains why they even HAVE buses. Ugh, It is one of those stories, where if all you did was do a find/replace for all pony terms, and made them human. Not one single thing would change.
2. The main character the story is about, are ALL either A. Idiots. B. Assholes. or C. Idiotic Assholes.
3. The canon characters that show up, only do so for torture porn pretty much. Just a quick scene of Faketavia meeting them on the bus, while she learns about their tragic, pain filled story. Each one getting worse, and worse and just more fucking horrible. Basically just an excuse for the word monkey (He does not deserve to be called a 'writer') to make canon characters suffer. Such as...
Twi trying to prepare to piss of Tia and possibly have her status as her personal pupil revoked by standing up to her and pubicly declaring how wrong Tia is to sentence some random pony to death for, some ting that I don't remember clearly. That is the best one. Also have.
Lyra dying of terminal cancer
Applebloom also dying of some rare and unknown or treatable disease in her bowels that leaves her unable to eat anything and in utter agony and as she slowly starves to death.
Vinyl... okay no sob story about how she is dying or in agony, she just shows up to make an Author Rant about how evil the whole record label industry idea is and how getting paid to make music is selling your soul.
And the point where I said FUCK IT! RD loses a wing. And then gives a long, detail account of how, despite that, she was still going to show up at the Wonderbolt's tryouts, and how, even though she had just had the accident that left her in agony for hours before she was found and that ruined her wing so bad it had to be amputated, she still walked all the way from Ponyville to Canterlot (Since they have cars and buses, but guess the train doesn't exist.) Walking for days, each step utter agony to her stump. (It's like a days walk at most, not nearly a week.) And through a harsh, barren, desert that she could feel burning her skin the whole time. (Yeah ou get the idea.)
So yeah and that's not getting into the shear idiocy and hateful, bitter, evil of the actual story.
Yeah I HATE! It. Even more then Project Horizon's. (Well PH as its own story, still hate PH more for it's retcons.)
Yami: Sorry, I'd still rather not say. One's a known bully with... apprentices in said craft and the other's is controversial enough that it'll probably start a dogpile and I'd rather not deal with the drama of either.
Pannic: The description of Fall's 'verse certainly does the opposite of selling me on it.

Please don't discuss The Burned Fic here.
Halper's Law: as the length of an online discussion of minority groups increases, the probability of "SJW" or variations being used = 1.
Pinkie's ability to keep up with RD is one of those things that can be interpreted as falling under Rule of Funny. Whether or not it's a literal indication of Pinkie's athletic ability is up to the individual.
As for their relationship approaches, I do agree that Pinkie would probably take it seriously... but it would be her own brand of "seriously", which could easily be at odds with what RD might want out of the relationship. Like, she'd take it seriously the same way she takes parties seriously, which means she goes a bit overboard without taking the time to think through her approach.
