Split? : Skirt Over Slacks

Looking at the examples only one or two of them are not shorts under the the skirt.

Or split (soft split or Hard split.), those two are very different tropes and carry alot of differences mostly in the visibility department.

Reading through the examples, pants seem more common in Western works. Shorts in anime or action genres. Which, actually makes me wonder if it's the same trope.

• The shorts seem to be worn most of the time because the character knows that their active lifestyle is going to reveal their panties.
• The pants on the other hand just seem to be a deliberate fashion choice.
• The bloomers have this whole old fashione/gothic/lolita thing going on that's completely different than the other two.

Well one is a style that's visible to everyone and Shorts Under Skirts are strictly to prevent panty shots and arn't normally visible unless their skirts flipped, two completely different things and different connotations. (as well as the latter actually being somewhat of a fetish.)

I was going to go for swap but now after thinking about it they are really different things. Should of put split in the title.

True, shorts that are significantly longer than the skirt probably fall in with the pants bit of the trope. Sakura from Naruto would be a good example here.

If the shorts are about the same length or shorter, i.e. only really visible when they move, sit down, fly, bend over, etc. they would fall more into the protection from peepers category.

That is a good image. It's really a modesty trope being split off from a fashion trope.

A split makes perfect sense. The trope was intended originally to be about the fashion choice, and the shorts were supposed to be long enough to show under the skirt even when the character was not kicking, jumping, flipping, or whatever.

That's why the last line of the description ("Note that this is applicable only when either the skirt or the pants could be done away with completely without making the outfit too risqué.") is there; if the skirt is so short that the pants or shorts are needed for modesty's sake, it shouldn't be on the page as an example.

Yeah. Maybe something like this on the fashion trope that's from a work and doesn't look like a Take That! at a celebrity fashion faux pas would help with that too. Make it more obvious that the fashion one is a deliberate fashion choice and name the other one something like Modesty Shorts.

That line is a bit confusingly worded which is probably why it gathered these examples. Confused me too I just followed the misuse .

Skip the crowner and go straight to making the page? Currently heading to bed so I can start the YKTTW tomorrow unless someone else wants to get started on it. (The only thing I don't know how to do is to remove that redirect which I made earlier today when I tried linking to it in the Kick Chick thread.)

Having an actual trope to kick the bad examples to will help because we can just rephrase it to say "If the shorts are worn to keep an athletic woman from a Panty Shot, see Modesty Shorts" or whatever we end up calling it.

I can move the redirect when it's needed.

The ones like Kanbaru◊[2]◊ though are both though she plays basketball and they stick out showing that she is a tomboy so she wears them for both... would those go on both?

I would say it's not mostly an anime trope so much as mostly an action trope. Or perhaps very common in anime. Would you mind if I took a shot at sprucing up the text?

Please have at it. Required extremely short School Uniform skirts + Sports girl / Kick Chick is the huge cause in anime.

Yeah, leave it left aligned until launch. YKTTW has issues with right aligned. I do think the anime thing should be mentioned, but not before we've even really explained the trope.

School Uniform is a Red Link? Wow ok thats another thing to YKTTW...

Wonder if Anime School Uniform Skirts would be a subtrope to that though as they are always short and a major factor in Zettai Ryouiki.

Hmm Sailor Fuku seems rather limited I mean Not a Sailor Fuku◊ but still an anime school uniform... This however is◊ and its the same series. (know it would probably be easier to list the series that dont have Sailor Fuku but still.

And no trope for male school uniforms.
