Many superhero setting are also Urban Fantasy settings, yes.

I would argue that no, Light has a supernatural book which he uses to kill people. He might think he fights crime, but he is treated in the work as a Well-Intentioned Extremist Serial Killer.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Pretty sure Death note is covered under the Supernatural Thriller genre.
Which we oddly don't have a trope page for even though I see it in book stores and movies stores all the time.

Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comUrban Fantasy is often combined with Paranormal Investigation as well.

Added it to the Sandbox write up. Everyone like it? Anything else you think it needs?
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Is Gothic Punk related to Urban Fantasy in anyway?
Sounds like it probably is.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)So is everybody content with noirgrimoir's rewrite?
It's here Sandbox.Urban Fantasy in case you guys missed it.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Seems pretty clear, I still think using the word Modern is a bit dubious but it works I guess.
Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comTechnically "modern" encapsulates all the way back to 17th century, there are just like, no works in the genre that take place that far back, not that they necessarily can't, they just don't.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Still when I hear modern I think post 1985 and I think that's very common among people.
Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comI certainly don't think just post-1985 when I think "modern", but I don't include the 17th century there either. It's kind of a fluid term.
You guys can edit the sandbox if you want.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I can't think of any better way to put it - I just feel like "modern" is a bit ambiguous.
I just say we hottip in a range for what we mean by modern.
Which leads to the question, What is modern?

Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comWell, pre-1985 is really the Historical Fantasy subgenre of Urban Fantasy and that has it's own page. Those works should really go there.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWell according to the Historical Fantasy page that genre sort of implies more than just historical time period, but yeah i think generally speaking the cut off is early 19th century (1800s) to present day. not because things couldn't happen earlier, but because there are just like no works that even vaguely qualify as Urban Fantasy that take place in that no-man's land of Renaissance to Colonial Era.
(I would so love to read any kind of fantasy that takes place in more of a Renaissance time-period. I'm so over high Middle Ages.)

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)What about urban fantasy works form that those eras though? Like the 60's had quite a few sitcoms and soaps that could be called Urban Fantasy as did the 70's.
Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comGive explicit examples and lets see.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Munsters was pretty much urban fantasy, as was the Adams family. Neither had the real fear factor to be horror. Dark Shadows blurs the line between this and horror.

Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comI'm not sure what your question is. These are obviously covered by the current time definition we have.
