Well don't blame Miyamoto until you have full proof it's his fault.

That basically giving the real guilty party a free pass (provided Miyamoto isn't guilty) which is a worse crime than the crime when you think about it.

If a creator is gonna fall, they should fall for what they've actually done wrong, and what we think they've done wrong.

Now, lets find the man who's to blame for this, eat his soul, and then feast on his flesh.

.......What?

Let's blame Sakurai. The entire smash fanbase already uses him as a scapegoat for everything. He won't notice if another fanbase starts blaming him.

Not every game needs to be a must-have. I haven't needed any of the handheld RPG's in a long while. I'm waiting for something bigger anyway.

I think I'll still get the game at some point, myself. I still love the M&L series and the Koopalings are in it and get some character development for once yay!!!

The more I think about it, the more I think that not only the usual Mario & Luigi characters (though I am a little disappointed over their absence) probably wouldn't have fit in this game, anyway, but it makes a bit of sense that they aren't in the game.

While they could have put some of them in the game as side NP Cs, this isn't really any of their stories. When you think about it, the only reason any of the returning species (like the Beanbean people) were in Dream Team was because they were tourists at a resort like Mario, Peach, and everyone else was.

As stated before, the old Big Bad characters like Cackaletta and The One Who Has Fury are either dead or incapacitated, thus they can't return in the first place. And in context of the premise of Paper Jam, a new unseen-before bad guy hijacking the plot would probably come off as an Ass Pull.

Now, I know that the Paper Mario side of things isn't exactly the same story, but the Mario & Luigi part of things isn't as critical as some people make it out to be...at least in my opinion.

I do have to say that the Paper Mario aspect seems to be incredibly tacked on aside from giving the player a 3rd character to control. There's paper gags and it is part of the gameplay, but it does seem like... what's the point? I dunno how to describe it.

Heck, it seems like some plot lines got dropped in the middle of development or something that parts of got left in the final game. (Big spoilers obviously. Like endgame and final boss spoilers.) So with the bad guys, they aren't getting along with their paper counterparts... except for the Bowser Jrs., who become fast friends. Paper Bowser Jr. decides he doesn't want to go back to the paper world so he can hang out with Bowser Jr. forever. And plot to throw away the book or something. Whatever, it doesn't matter because when you fight the two in the game, they basically drop out of the plot permanently, kind of leaving their fates dangling. They don't even explode into a bunch of stars like what happens with most bosses.

And the Bowsers eventually get sick of each other to the point where they're willing to betray each other with a plan that involves the Paper Mario book. The end result is that you never see this plan take place, and the Kameks (who are the ones who suggested to the Bowsers that they betray their counterparts using the book.) work together to fight the Mario Bros. and Paper Mario aaaaand... get defeated. And then explode into a bunch of stars, meaning that they don't make another appearance for the rest of the game. And then M&L Bowser tries to betray Paper Bowser at the very end. Except this gets brushed aside immediately because they have to fight the Mario Bros. and they're basically like, we'll handle that part later.

Kind of wondering how much Nintendo stepped into things.

I'll probably still buy it since it sounds like it's still fun enough. Doesn't seem like it'll be SS, TTYD, or BIS levels of amazing, but still decent.

I suspect it was a bit rushed in order to get a December 3DS game out for Japan. It came out a lot faster than these games normally do. I still haven't heard any reason for me not to get it, so it'll be mine for sure once it comes out in the US.

Well the gameplay in Paper Jam doesn't seem to have been gimped too much at least. Sticker Star's problem was that it was lacking in both gameplay and story. Seriously, battles had like no point in that game. Kinda hard to judge on Paper Jam's actual gameplay since I don't actually have the game, but the mechanics are more like Dream Team's at least for people that are worried about that.

Oh, and you can actually skip the tutorials.

Alright, so I'm in the obligatory mountain area in Paper Jam, and so far I'm having a blast with the game. Yes, there are no RPG exclusive characters aside from Starlow (who at this point I consider a Mario & Luigi series mainstay), which, to be perfectly honest, doesn't really bother me all that much. Yeah, it would've been really cool to see some of the partners of the Paper Mario series get an appearance, but I can live without them.

So far the only things that I would say would bug me a little are that the "Rescue the Paper Toads" missions can be kind of excessive in how often they appear, and that the Papercraft battles are nice at first, but they do get kind of meh as they go along. Then again, I wasn't really a fan of the Giant Bowser and Giant Luigi battles in the previous two Mario & Luigi games either, so whatever.

Anyway, based on how the game was so far, I can definitely recommend it.

I'll probably get the game on Valentine's Day.

And at the very least, it sounds better than Sticker Star.

While I certainly wasn't expecting old Paper Mario/ Mario & Luigi characters to return, I at least thought there would be a new big bad that caused the Paper and M&L worlds to collide.

Kind of underwhelming way to kick off the story, though I can kind of see it. Considering how much of a Butt-Monkey Luigi is in M&L.

Well, Paper Jam is still gonna be a Day 1 purchase for me. I mean, I did greatly love the previous games in the M&L series and after what happened with Sticker Star, I really want to have an enjoyable Paper Mario game experience again.

A very friendly question for everyone (and it IS out of mere curiosity). Would you someday try to play a 3D Mario platform game with RPG Elements?

That would depend on how they were implemented.

I wouldn't trust them to be meaningful in any capacity if the development got anywhere near Miyamoto, for example.

If it played like Super Paper Mario, no way. That game had very lacking gameplay. I would have rather played an actual 2D platformer in that case.

Super Paper Mario was my favorite Paper Mario.

Probably because of the platforming elements and the relative ease of playing it.

I'd consider playing such a game as long as those RPG Elements don't impede on the platforming aspects of the game.

So basically Super Paper Mario but in 3D all the time rather than switching between 2D and 3D?

Sure. To be honest, the flipping mechanic and the frequency with which you need to use it is probably my least favorite part of SPM, so playing in one fixed mode would be an improvement to me.

The worst thing about Super Paper Mario was the absence of 1D platforming.

I want to platform in every dimension!
