Based on the title of the thread I assumed that you were going to defend him?
He is a very knowledgeable commentator on animation; however he is also fucking insane.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEOkay, I know John K has been known to be ego-maniacal, but he's also racist and sexist?
yeyHis post-Ren and Stimpy work has been filled with racist caricatures and women treated as objects.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Is he the guy who thinks that all current Western Animation is crap?
He hates Japanese animation too
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEI may not be a fan of John K, but I find it rather werid on what he does sometimes. He is one of those people that you dont know if you should help or not. Also, as for racist stuff. His artwork of of the cover for Harlem shuffle◊ should be mentioned.
How can u explain that if John likes Astro Boy?
@ Taco Wiz: From what I recall, Family Guy has never done anything that could be considered racist (other than maybe having a white guy voice a black character). John K. meanwhile has been called on this site so racist that he makes the controversial Warner Bros. look progressive by comparison.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/I've heard the egomaniac thing, but the racist/sexist thing surprises me.
I'm all for making fun of him for getting kicked off of his own show, though.
Fanfiction I hate. From the title, I thought this would be a thread FOR defending him.
I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, but I LOVE his work. He's my favorite cartoonist, and the euphoric glee that comes from memorizing all the R&S lines helps me fight away the bad feelings in my day to day life.
Is he an egomaniac? Yeah, that sounds right. But it's his blog and he has the right to say whatever he wants on it.
Considering how much he contributed to the 90s animation boom, I think we owe him SOME respect.
signature lineI see. And what exactly is his problem with the animation in general?
He just has something up his ass that makes him hate everything that's not old.

Easy street has no parking signs. He also hates lots of old things.
The man's got a lot of hate.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEJohn K. hates all animation simply because he had nothing to do with it,he's practically Ralph Bakshi taken Up To Eleven in his thinking. The guy is more like the "Hardcore,Wii hater" of animation who simply prefers style over substance and only his style [just as Wii haters will buy Modern Warfare, then five yars later ditch it and PS 3 for something better looking]
The guy is an egotist and honestly,Don Bluth deserves more credit.
At least M. Night respects other filmmakers and he did more than just The Sixth Sense,I mean Wide Awake,Unbreakable,Signs were actually pretty good
All John K ever did was Ren And Stimpy.
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matterThat respect can vanish when he does things like being an asshole though
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life. All he really did as far as I saw was bring in a flood of Follow the Leader Gross Out Shows. If anything, it wouldn't surprise if if his tendency to be hard to work with and being constantly late actually hurt creator driven animation.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"Did he have any actual arguments? I doubt he just said "I don't like current stuff", that seems a little too low key for all the hate he gets here.
I think he argues his points well, but he comes across as incredibly arrogant, and sooner or later he's going to hate something you like.
I remember stumbling on one of his blogs where he posted a screenshot of The New Batman Adventures as an example of crappy character design and animation, and all hell broke loose in the comments until he removed it — even his faithful followers weren't havin' that.
His blog is a really interesting read, imo... but like I side, he's a bit insane.
Except [condescending response follows]. Because [sarcasm here]. You do understand [snark], right? POTHOLE TO SARCASM MODEJohn K to me may be a man who I respect for giving the idea of "creator driven" cartoons, but there are times where I have a bone to pick with him. I will admit that I feel sorry for his talent being tossed out for what he would consider garbage, as well as the studios messsing his stuff up.
From what I have heard, John K had a post on Tangled but he removed it. I can only assume that people on his blog were not happy with it. Anyone know what the post was? I never saw it.
John had attacked on that artist's art style on his blog. So thats an obvious Take That! comic.
Another problem I have with John K.: he is a sock puppet. Back when he wrote for an animation magazine, he trashed many cartoons (such as Animaniacs) while giving his own show positive reviews.
As for "contributing a lot to the animation boom in the 1990's", I don't think he did that much. He did one show, people liked it and his ego killed him. If anyone contributed more to animation in the 1990's, that would be John Lasseter. Matt Groening, Mike Judge and Paul Dini, Bruce Timm and the guys at Warner Bros. also deserve mention. And despite their hatred, Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo contributed a lot more than John K. ever did.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Wait, there's hate on Klasky and Csupo? Since when did they get the hate?
The Rugrats revival, As Told By Ginger, Rocket Power...
Don't Press Your Luck too many times in life. You'll just get whammied.I've heard Billy West talk about working with John K on the Adam Corolla show, and he compared that situation to his getting abused by his father as a child. For that reason, I'm not sure there is any defense for John K.
"Aren't you cold, Finn?"
I honestly don't get it. Sure he made one good cartoon (Ren and Stimpy) but that was twenty years ago. Other than that, he's been a rampant egomaniac who can't keep schedule and is completely racist and sexist (not to mention a complete and total misanthrope). And none of his work (other than a Weird Al Yankovic video) has been even close as good.
Basically, he is the animation version of M. Night Shyamalan and the animation heads have done the right thing to ignore him.
