Eh, younglings still sounds cheesy, though. It's fine to use it in a neutral context, but when Obi-Wan says "He killed younglings", it's narmy because the line was supposed to be a dramatic revelation to Padme.
It would be more appropriate for him to say, "Padme, he killed children."
Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens. Not for me. It not cheesy or narmy. I even prefer "younglings" than childers.
I saw this few times. Last time on Lauren Faust deviant page or Ponychan when some complainer mention he is TV Tropes some people coment how typical that behavior is for Troper.
And in other circles we are known as "the people who like everything". And in still other circles, we are a group of sick disgusting unpleasant nerdy perverts. It just goes to show.
Kill all math nerdsOn Greedo shooting first, I'm told that this changed was forced by the ratings people, actually. When the movies were re-released, they told Lucas to modify that scene because a protagonist shooting someone in cold blood would be grounds for upping the rating to PG-13 (which didn't exist at the time of the original release; in fact, wasn't it Temple of Doom that prompted the establishment of that rating?). Judging by a shirt he owns, Lucas probably thinks the original version was best.
Doesn't one of the re-releases have the option of playing the movie with Han shooting first?
And yeah, it was Temple of Doom and Poltergeist, I believe.

George Lucas wanted Indiana Jones to be a pedophile?
What?
I think this thread just killed a part of my childhood that I wasn't sure even existed. X(
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyI know in production for Raiders, Lucas suggested (likely jokingly) that Marion was twelve when she had an affair with Indy.
I believe canon says she was either 15 or 16 when she was first involved with Jones.

How can you hate a guy like that? Well, ok, I can see how, I just find him so nice.
Read my stories! And that could have been years ago—Indy could've also been young.

Woo! Just got my DVD from Amazon today!
Jonah FalconWow, [[thisisanadventure.com/2011/02/george-lucas-reconsidered/ George Lucas had almost no involvement with Empire]], and thinks it's the worst Star Wars film.
So to be clear: Lucas 1) hates to write, 2) hates to direct, and 3) only likes editing. But later in the book it gets into the fact that Lucas hated the way Kershner had filmed it when it got to the editing stage, since Kershner had given him a lot less to work with (in fact, after the first cut is done, Lucas leaves for Japan). Throughout the process, Lucas talks about how he wants everything to be like a documentary, a ton of material to work with once you get into the cutting room — instead, Kershner gives him very limited options with just the adapted (often on-set) dialogue and shots. So 3) is only true if he’s got all of 1) and 2) just the way he likes it?
- Lucas's version: “Not material are we. Luminous beings are we, tied together by the Force. Yes. There are two of you… your body and your energy.”
- Kasdan's version: “Luminous beings are we [pinches Luke's skin], not this crude matter.”
In fact, many of the lines aren't even his (like "Do, or do not. There is no try.")
Jonah FalconOh, another Lucas bashing thread, how quaint
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Well, I hope my contributions make this thread more than just some George Lucas-bashing thread!
First off, about the "youngling" thing, check this out. Perhaps "youngling" is not a commonly used word, but I can promise you, it's hardly a made-up word. Therefore, the argument that it's a made-up word and is Narm as a result is just wrong. Even if it was made-up, so what? Fictional works use made-up words all the time, and I don't see them detracting from their credibility and value!
Regarding Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood did say that "I was a child. I was in love! It was wrong and you knew it!" Okay, Raiders didn't actually say what happened, but it can inferred from it that I.J. and R.M. had sex, and while she was a child, he wasn't. Yet, it doesn't seem to detract from his coolness at all!
By the way, I thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was entertaining and good. Is it possible that expectations were set a little too high in the huge time period between the release date of The Last Crusade and KOTCS? Similar to how expectations were set a little too high in the huge time period between the Star Wars original trilogy and the prequel trilogy?
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!I don't blame Lucas for hating on Empire,it's really not as good as everyone gives it for,it's just dicking around for everyone until Cloud City, remove Yoda and Luke and instantly it's just AOTC made snarkier
Star Wars needs a balance between Lucas and others,so far only Return Of The Jedi seems to have that discipline, although with A New Hope it was just the beginning,so things had to be too much, but it still has too much Early-Installment Weirdness.
Empire didn't have enough Lucas, and the Prequels had too much, although in Revenge Of The Sith it was little better.
f you read about the various problems involved in Empire's production, Lucas' answer isn't a surprise. George wanted the film a touch darker, but still in line with the adventurous, quick paced tone of ANH. Irvin Kershner's insistence on doing slow takes and a more thoughtful feel really grated on Lucas both because it went against his original idea and because the film was running behind schedule & over budget. Keep in mind he put up his own money to fund it so his objections are not unfounded. That producer (and friend) Gary Kurtz wasn't reigning him simply made things worse.
Lucas never understood why Kurtz & Kershner were perfectionists with the film, and thought that a fun popcorn flick would have been enough.

Even if youngling is a real word, it still sounds full of narm. Saying "killing children" would have sufficed. Fictional universes, in my opinion, fare better when they call fictional things fictional words, not when there are perfectly serviceable words already available to the English language.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I still can't believe they made an entire movie about this. It's sad, in a pathetically amusing way BWA HA HA!
The amount of bile people fling at the creators of works of fiction distresses me. Even more distressing is the fact that I'm almost completely certain that 90% of the people who think Lucas raped their childhood couldn't tell me who Omar al-Bashir or Alexander Lukashenko or Erik Prince are.
You know what I think? I think all the money George Lucas has made should be used to fund NASA.
Also known as Achillesforever6 of Lordkat.com fame"Lucas raped my childhood."
Also:
- Omar al-Bashir is the president of Sudan. He is also a douche.
- Alexander Lukashenko is the president of Belarus and a Grade A corrupt politician. He is also a douche.
- Erik Prince is the founder of Blackwater, or Xi, or whatever it's called now that "Blackwater" is synonymous with "shady government-funded security firm" and "Xi" sounds stupid. He is also a douche.
I am one of the 10%

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Good for you.
Still, it's fiction. And guess what? Fiction? Doesn't matter. This isn't directed at you, Zephyr, but at the general Fan Hater community.
Well, I know. I was being facetious.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Personally, I liked the documentary. It showed the opinions of Lucas and SW fans equally and wasn't biased towards either side. It gave a good look at the history of the films and talked about how they became the icons they are today. It had interviews from a ton of people and even showed clips from fan made you tube videos and stuff. It was pretty interesting and insightful.
And on another note, I really don't consider Lucas' editing to be a huge deal. I can understand why people are upset, but I just can't bring myself to get that worked up about it. And when it comes to the argument that he's messing with other peoples acting/editing/etc, I just think "Scenes get cut and changed all the time when making films." If he likes to edit stuff then good for him, that's fine. Let him edit all he damn wants. And honestly, no one is entitled to Star Wars; we don't have any god given right to the works of George Lucas.
"With hard work and dedication, I will become a splendid ninja!"
"and I was allways asking why TV Tropes have reputation of haters den"
I have never heard of this reputation in my life.
