Character Development Thread--Discussion

That is no problem at all. Although most of us write speculative fiction, there are bo rules about that sort of thing, and characters interacting with others from vastly different settings is tge rule, not the exception.

RE: Keyphones: I think the keycard phones could also be used like credit cards with the ship's company/instituition/conspiracy handling the money exchange, and we assume the characters traded money for "credits" before entry (or didn't, as one of my yet to be introduced characters simply lacked the money)

I think I'll go with all purpose keycards instead of phones.

Hey, ~Merseyuser1, Character Frontier is just about over, so I'm not sure it's a good idea to introduce a new character there. Besides Space Liner, we also have Dream, which has stalled lately but AFAIK is still going.

Edit: I haven't paid much attention to this keycard stuff, but I think flexibility is a good idea. My setting, as people may have noticed, relies heavily on internal implants for a lot of this sort of thing.

We've generally had it that whatever communications equipment a person would normally use will work fine in the shared setting (including, it seems, Frontier - which wasn't supposed to have a cellular network with which to interact). Those who have functional mobile devices/implants etc. could opt for plain keycards for the doors and use their own devices. Those without can choose to have keycard-phones if they wish.

So regarding Space Liner, I'm wanting my first two characters to arrive via emergency landing. However, would anyone be interested in interacting with them? Figured I would let someone else write the robotic staff's reaction.

While they'd have to come to him on the Observation Deck after getting everything in order, Enkar Zaa is certainly free. Though he won't exactly be a bucket of cheer and goodwill.

Any suggestions for where I should drop Proseda? It'll be a while though, since I'm in the middle of cooking.(using the oven, I'm not gonna burn down the house)

So, the new thread page is open, the bottle of champaigne is broken, and the Space Liner is finally underway! But then I remembered that the christening of the vessel is supposed to be performed by a woman, so I spent last 40 minutes contemplating the nature of gender dynamics in our society, as I was separating bottle shards ands pieces of my LCD monitor's matrix from the carpet lying on the floor of my study, walls of which are now decorated with stains of cheap champaigne mixed with my own blood.

Just introduced my character. It's the first time I've written for her extensively, so I figured I'd throw her into the lobby with some other people. It's almost 3 AM here, so I'm going to bed, but should be able to post throughout the day tomorrow.

Well, technically it turned out to be tomorrow morning, but there, the post. I don't know when I'll be free again. Got a week-long take-home exam full of nasty questions and I'm already three days behind.

Of course, that won't stop me from nagging Blackfire. Hey Blackfire, how's it going?

Thus, I have add characters to the mix, finally, after half a day of dillydallying around. Now I must work on a post for Dream... tomorrow later today. I'm still human, and thus require sleep.

Speaking of human... Mari's an oni, Ayako and Junko are magical girls, and Minerva is the 70 Billion Dollar Robot Girl... Spoilers. I probably screwed up my estimate there.

And I just realized that Minerva is practically the Zoidberg of the group. I suddenly feel like an asshat for some reason.

Just dropped in a pair of characters myself.

They've both been in Capital, although they didn't interact with very many people there. While their story's undergone massive changes since then, and the girl in particular has had a lot of changes made to her, on the off chance they actually meet someone they met in Capital here they'll recognize them.

Feel free to throw someone at the girl if it pleases you; I don't have any particular plan in mind for her right now.

Welp, there goes Ren Yangchao. I'd rather none of the characters comment on how abrupt that was, since that was all just me trying to be quick about it. The character[s] I'm thinking about replacing them with could easily continue with the "shitty politicans" topic if desired. It's either going to be Wilhem and Jonathan or just Jonathan. I'm not totally settled on where to send them, though.

Glad you survived. I thought that a ship as grandiose as Carpe Noctem needed to be baptised. Even though I'm not Christian.

Man, I need some other way to illustrate that there are two different characters narrating. Square brackets don't seem to work as well as I expected. Will coloring the background of the text work in forum posts?

Hmm, how do you feel about a so-called queen and a pair of dolls (and a marionette) approaching her? Because they are currently on Deck 2 and the royal procession could logically end at the restaurant... But as it's currently almost 3:30AM where I am, that post will have to wait until later this morning.

Send them to the Heart Forge! There's only Noire and two of my characters there now, and that group could totally use some discussion on politics!

You could use different text colors.

Also, paging Will and Mr. Ship in Dream II regarding the Twilight Ball... I still haven't heard anything regarding my question on whether you want to post before I introduce... an unexpected turn of events in that location.

Regarding Space Liner, my male character (Gabriel Jones) isn't actually Hispanic or a teen- He's actually a twenty year old who is a quarter Haitian. Really, that element is based on myself actually, as I can easily be mistakened for a teen and am regularly mistakened for Hispanic.

@Tanuki: Why not? That sounds amusing.

@Will: I've never actually seen Cowboy Bebob. I actually forget just what inspired him, though character-wise he's loosely based on a Geography professor I had in college.
