Two Tropes in One: With A Friend And A Stranger

With a Friend and a Stranger seems to be mixing two tropes up. One: a hero, a friend and a stranger grouped together. Two: Two Girls and a Guy grouped together.

The image itself merely shows Two Girls and a Guy, and Two Girls and a Guy is a redirect. However, the description even says there are variations of the gender of this trope, and describes something completely different, if related in Eastern RPGs, to the second trope.

For example, one example, says "Avatar The Last Airbender: The main trio for Book 1 consists of Aang (stranger) alongside Katara and Sokka (sister and brother). ", which is Two Guys and a Girl, but probably does count as With a Friend and a Stranger (I don't know, I don't watch the show).

I suggest splitting out Two Girls and a Guy into its own trope that uses the current image.

EDIT: Here's the history for Two Girls And A Guy. It seems the trope was originally specific to two girls and a guy, but someone moved it, probably to make it less specific and more flexible, but I can't really say.

The trope was originally called Two Girls and a Guy but was about With a Friend and a Stranger. This attracted a bunch of incorrect examples so we changed the name through a trope repair topic. Apparently it still has incorrect examples. I believe Two Girls and a Guy was deemed to not actually be a trope on its own because it had no storytelling implications. It's too open-ended.

^ This. The name was changed in a TRS thread, because it was decided that the hero+friend+stranger relationship was more central to the trope than the genders of the three involved. Two Girls and a Guy was made a redirect to avoid breaking its inbound links.

Here's the old thread

If Two Girls and a Guy isn't launched, I still say we should cut the redirect (after fixing the links, preferably), as otherwise it may cause confusion.

Woud anyone mind if I went ahead and removed the current anyway even if isn't put on Two Girls and a Guy, simply because it's only a picture of Two Girls and a Guy?

With a Friend and a Stranger shouldn't have any incorrect examples, I went over them with a fine tooth comb when I renamed it and I've watched it ever since. I also cleaned every single wick and removed all for Two Girls and a Guy, but who knows what's happened since.

The Avatar example is correct - Aang is the stranger, Katara and Sokka are friends (well, siblings, but that counts for the trope). It's the variation mentioned where the primary protagonist is the stranger in order to be an audience surrogate and/or source of exposition.

If you're going to kill the image, please start an Image Pickin' thread to get a new one.

1. Hasn't this been in the TRS like twice already?

2. The image should make the "friend" and "stranger" distinction clear.

[up][up]Will do. [up]1. Probably.

I still say we should cut the Two Girls and a Guy redirect...

Yes, it's been to the TRS twice before. The first time a consensus for action was made, but the action wasn't taken for some reason. The second time we remembered the first and finally took the action, renaming it and redefining it to With a Friend and a Stranger.

I have no problem with the redirect being cut, since it sounds like something it's not.

Also, as the original trope launcher, I formally apologize for the mess.

If we do end up creating a new trope for Two Girls and a Guy, remember to list it on the Launch Displacement page.

Wouldn't we just delete the redirect for Two Girls and a Guy?

Two Girls and a Guy seems more similar to a Distaff Counterpart of Two Guys and a Girl, a subtrope of Three Amigos, and at least deserves a mention on its page. I think Two Girls and a Guy shouldn't redirect to With a Friend and a Stranger mainly because it throws many for a curveball when they click the link.

[up] I think it's Two Girls and a Guy from With a Friend and a Stranger? I don't really get it, but the thread seems finished, so I think it should be closed. I don't know why it's been abandoned so long.

If a transplant was done, it needs to be listed on Launch Displacement. No permutation of these tropes is there. Ergo, it's not finished.
