My wife and I watched House of Wax (2005) last night. It was solidly OK. I was impressed with how they let Paris Hilton's character have some moments of competence and bravery. I half-expected them to play her entirely as a useless bimbo.
As far as "killer ________" flicks go, The Dentist is a pretty good one. Lots of wince-inducing moments, and a delightful performance from Corbin Bernsen.
The Dentist 2 is basically the same thing, except not as good.
I think the "proper" term is something like "[Blank] from Hell".
Cross Bearer wasn't great, but was watchable, and interesting enough to get me curious about the director's other films, especially The Cemetery.
@ erforce - Nice pages for the Friday the 13th comics, BTW.
Much appreciated.
Next I'll be capping this year by watching the Psycho Cop and Maniac Cop films again.
What do you folks think are some of the best Sci-Fi Slashers?
Who watches the watchmen?I'm the best at what I do, obviously!
Jason X and Chopping Mall are the most obvious, but I'm gonna have to say that my personal favorite is Hardware, and if we're talking about hybrids, it's a tie between Alien and The Terminator.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Don't forget the Predator and its eighties brethren, Without Warning.
Don't think I have ever seen Chopping Mall.
If we are doing hybrids that list gets pretty big. Lots of flicks where an alien or monster is basically the slasher. A few terminator rip offs as well.
Who watches the watchmen? Not many sci-fi slashers, or at least not many straightforward ones, so a list of the best would be very small.
I still need to see Spaceship Terror, and Supernova (I intend to whenever Shout! Factory's re-release of it is out).
This year's watchlist, before I delete it.
I recommend Almost Human as far as sci-fi slashers go.
Forgot about that one.
God, I need to make a To Watch List.
Just bought Cam2Cam◊. Will it buck the trend of cyber-themed slashers almost always sucking? I doubt it.
Especially since it's directed by Joel Soisson.
So, anybody else seen this analysis of Neon Manaics?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."I need to revisit the movie. It's been a while. The DVD's out of print, and the Blu-ray was limited so that's no help.
I reviewed a couple somewhat unorthodox slashers at my blog in my siggy.
Cool. Linked to it on my Wiki.
First Silent Night, Bloody Night got a remake, now it's getting a sequel. Surprised this didn't happen sooner, since it's one of the few slasher(-ish) films in public domain.
Germany's much anticipated by me Terror Creek came out... without subtitles. I'll probably get it anyway, since I doubt it will get them, so I'm not really losing anything by not waiting for future releases that probably won't ever happen.
I could have sworn Pieces was in the public domain. Maybe I just imagined it.
I last watched They're Playing with Fire. What a strange, stupid movie. Kind of amusing, however.
Well, the ones I know for sure are public domain are SNBN, Dementia 13, The Driller Killer, Scream Bloody Murder and Drive-In Massacre.
^_^ You could probably go through this list as well.
x18 So do you know that a Midnight 2 exists? I haven't been able to find it anywhere, though.
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."Yes. Good.
New Friday the 13th game announced.
It hopefully won't go the way of the Child's Play one.
I watched Girl House. It's the only new slasher I've seen since Almost Human that's worth a damn, and that'd almost be enough, but I liked it quite a bit. Recommended...if you don't mind some dubious sexual politics.
Saw the Dentist mentioned... have not seen, WILL NOT watch unless I'm in the mood to subject myself to mental torture. I've had a rough dental history, still vividly remember some of the pain, so seeing it sends me into a panic attack of sorts.
Then again, it would be a good movie to use to conquer the fear...
Thank God X will be available for the 360, cause I have no Xbox One.
I presume Michael will be in the next game?
"Somehow the hated have to walk a tightrope, while those who hate do not."
I thought it was funny, though the joke stretched thin after a while. The movie switched gears right around that time, though, so it doesn't really matter.
I last watched Midnight. What a piece of shit. The movie has only a few intermittent sparks of life sandwiched by scenes with a bunch of shitty actors(and Lawrence Tierney). There are some good gore F/X in the final third, but John Russo is such an inept director that he manages to render them boring.
