OOC: [up] You're back! Yay!

Your character is still where you left her.

My characters are still waiting for a response.

Asau stared at the box, uttering a single comment: "what." The outfit was vaguely familiar; her and Rachel had once stumbled on Senator Gray's "private manga collection," which had managed to creep out even Asau. Thankfully, the outfit lacked the mixture of cuteness and sexuality that had so unnerved Asau; it seemed a simple worker's outfit.

The rest of the thing brought to Asau's mind some sort of primitive idol. Were it made of wood, she would have reckoned it an idol to the nameless spirits of some primeval tribe. But the choice of metal implied there was something more to it. Asau shrugged, looked it over, and said to Landras, "have fun."

She then walked over to Micah and Marc, and she said, "so, you two? What's your story?"

Rachel wasn't entirely sure what to say. A curious quiet had fallen over the conversation. Just to break the ice, Rachel nervously said, "so, er, nice weather we're having, isn't it?"

Landras didn't exactly know how to assemble it, so she but the end of one arm to where the socket should be.

It snapped together.

"This is easy to assemble," Landras mused. She then attached the other arm, the body to the bottom, and then the head to the top. She then back away to give it distance, even though it didn't need it.

The newly-assembled robot twitched for a moment, like a mild spark of electricity went through it. It then waved its limbs, and then turned its head all the way around. The wheels turned forwards and backwards, and then 360 degrees. After all of this, it stopped moving.

And then it stood straight up.

"Sensing for master..." the Robot Maid said in a cute robotic voice, like a kind middle-age nanny. It rotated towards the front entrance, and zoomed out of the room.

"That's new," Landras thought. She saw in the newspaper Justin read that inventors were designing matienance bots, like vacuum cleaners or street cleaners, but not anything that elaborate.

Justin might just have a heart attack seeing it, ironically.

Justin realized the conversation hadn't really started yet, indicated by Rachel's lame attempt to small-talk (she seemed to contrast Asau in terms of personality).

"Had you read any good books lately?" Justin asked, choosing a topic that might interest everybody, "Recently, I finished this book called The Westing Game, which the title character makes his will a competition where the person who figures out who killed him wins his fortune...It's Better Than It Sounds, I can't really explain it well."

OOC: Really, it's Better Than It Sounds. Sort of like Clue.

(OOC: I will also have a fourth character, but he will be gone before the end of this post.)

"Perfect day for an outing at the beach, yes." Lien signed that as she spoke aloud, and Hope gave a small nod.

Hope watched two figures walking on the solid ground above the beach stand at the stairs that led here, patting Lien's arm to get her to notice them.

"Ah, there's my husband."

"Hope looks like she's beginning to adjust," said the taller of the men with a Sicilian accent.

"There's been a pretty big improvement since Day One, yeah."

"I'm glad to've seen her. And nice seeing you, Akura. I'll talk to you and Lien tomorrow."

"Yeah, see ya, Vince."

Vince waved to Lien and Hope from way up there, and Hope waved back to one of the only men in the world that she trusted. And eh headed off as Lien's husband, a man by the name of Akura Shimada, came down the stairs towards his family.

(OOC: Thought there would be stairs down to the beach; if there weren't originally, I don't think it would affect much... And maybe I should've mentioned that Lien's Asian, but I thought her name- Lien Thi Khang -would've given it away.)

OOC: I thought there were stairs down from the beach from the main road. Strange.

"So, that's your husband?" Justin asked Lien. Hope seemed less fidgety.

Rachel blushed a bit. Had she really just tried to start a conversation about the weather? No matter, at least it had ended the awkward silence. She offered Akura her hand and said, "pleasure to meet you... Akura was it? Rachel Hosseini; I was just getting to know Lien and her daughter. Are you Lien's husband, or do you know her some other way?"

Asau spotted the iron creature speeding across the room. She said to Micah and Marc, "hold on a sec," and leapt, cat-like, in its path. Nothing ventured, nothing gained: keeping her face completely straight, Asau calmly said, "I am your master."

As Akura got closer, one could discern his appearance more- a thin Asian man, clothed in an expensive-looking Armani suit with neck-length black hair.

"Hey." He gave his wife a quick kiss, then knelt down to Hope's eye level.

"I just met with Vince, and he can't wait to see you. We're visiting him tomorrow morning."

Hope suddenly perked up upon seeing the news.

Akrua stood up. "Oh, hello. Yeah, I'm her husband."

"Umm...hello," Justin said, "We were just having a little conversation here."

The maid ignored the person in its way, and drove swerved around her. Her master's identity was already programed into her program. It was the owner of the house, which was currently in the living room.

Note: Identify "Unknown Subject" as next priority.

OOC: After the Robot Maid finds QQQQQ's character, you may control her too, as long as you don't try to abuse her. However, I still have main control over her, so don't be surprised if she happens to turn into a Ninja Maid later.

Rachel withdrew her hand, and offered a Japanese-style bow instead. "Pleasure to meet you, sir." She was then reminded of a question that had been bothering her for quite some time, and she said, "I'm terribly sorry, this is a complete non-sequiter. But I've been meaning to ask or look it up: what does the '-tan' honorific mean, exactly?"

Asau muttered a curse in her native tongue. But it had been worth a shot. She returned to Micah and Marc, and said, "you two have any idea what that thing was?"

OOC: I'm not sure exactly how to enter this, but I'll give it a shot with AB!Beowulf. Note that this Beowulf is completely different from the Beowulf of the original epic. He's a small, skinny nineteen-year-old.

Beowulf comes by on the main road, sitting pretty on a handsomely saddled mare, dressed in a finely-embroidered pale blue tunic, with a seax sheathed at his belt, hair plaited into a single long braid.

He can see the beach clearly from where he rides, and wonders if he should give up on any attempt at looking like a proper, responsible man and just go and swim.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

Rachel figured her odd question had either been ignored or unheard. She supposed Akura had better things to do than answer silly questions about the honorific Alice used on people she was intending to kill. She heard the sounds of... was that a young man on a horse? She muttered to herself in Farsi, "just ignore the crazy..." She glanced back up... he was actually a rather handsome young man... eh, if he introduced himself, she'd figure out what his story was. Rachel turned her attention back to the conversation at hand.

[up] OOC: Welcome to the Character Thread! A few of are characters are talking at the beach, another group is in the house, and then there's a few characters scattered around that are currently inactive.

"Oh, did that come out wrong?" Justin asked, "Oh, sorry," he blushed a little bit. "Go on,"

Justin turned to Rachel and said, "I read somewhere that the honorific -tan is an informal variation of -chan, which are used by people referring to less supieor people...or something like that."

Landras was eating more yogurt.

"Most people use -tan when referring to pets or kids under the age of five," Akura corrected. "Even kids may object if you use it with them, on the grounds that they're not a baby anymore. As for -chan... you use that with kids. Childish teenage girls sometimes use it to refer to their female friends. Did that help?"

Rachel laughed nervously. "yes. Totally not what I expected. An... acquaintance of mine, Alice Snow, used it when talking to... uh, Yakuza bosses. She's quite insane. I figured she meant it as some sort of insult. I kept asking her what it meant, but she just sorta... grinned." Eager to change the subject, Rachel hurriedly said, "so, anyways. Like Justin said. Read any good books lately?"

Referring to hare-core criminals using a honorific used for toddalers and pets? That was suicide. However, Justin dismissed the thought, for now.

"Not really," Justin said, "I been mostly listening to music on my iPod, surfing the Net, and...stuff," most of his time lately had been occupied by the battle of gambits he was dragged in. However, he was writing in a books of sorts, a note...

The large man threw open the loose door with reckless abandon, then looked around the room comically, an inquisitive expression on his face.

Landras heard a very loud voice from the front door. She stopped eating for a second...and started scooping up yogurt again.

The maid detected a very loud voice, which caused her to roll backwards an inch.

"Idenifing source of voice," she turned towards the man at the door and briefly scanned it, "Does not match data base." She then turned towards her master.

(OOC: My updates may be sporadic. We got more exams coming.)

"The last things I've read were for work- child psychology manuals."

Lien chimed in. "I began reading a fantasy novel on the plane that was about a mosaicist." She signed the question to Hope. "What book have you been reading?" Hope signed to her. "The Magicians Nephew."

OOC: Landras in the small kitchen, which is next to the large kitchen linked in the first post. She's invisable, so don't try looking for her unless you're controlling Marc, or you able to snatch something from Justin

Also, I have a picture of Justin on Deviant Art. Should I link it for reference?

"Can you translate what she means?" Justin asked Lien. He didn't know any of the guestures she used.

Justin looked around. The waves were receding back to the ocean. The sun was over ahead, heating his brown hair.

"I wonder if there's lunch inside," Justin said, looking back at the beach house "Should I go in and check?"

OOC: It's here. I would like some critque on his design too. If I get motivated enough, I might draw him as he is in this thread.

"Oh, I read that book when I was eleven," Justin said, "The series was very good, very deep stuff..." he pointed to the beach house, "I'm going back now. Nice meeting you."

He started to walk back to the beach house.
