Well not counting how Reptile of all people was dancing around their bullets, I think the movie handled this issue pretty well.

I think that we're taking this too seriously. It's Mortal Kombat; we should enjoy it for what it is and take everything at face value. Overanalysis of why X character beat Y is kinda sucking the fun out of the whole David vs. Goliath element of the games.

Ermac's gem on his forehead also increases his telekinesis tenfold (according its Relic description in Armageddon), so I don't know how much of that power comes from the souls themselves and how much is from the gem.

Also, I'm pretty sure Ermac's Deception ending is canon. He and Liu Kang's spirit travel to Onaga's fortress to save the others warriors; as Ermac fights off Kitana, Kung Lao, Cage, Sonya, and Jax, Liu Kang slowly frees them of their brainwashing. It's how the fallen heroes from DA (barring Raiden) were able to come back to the forces of good for the big battle of Armageddon.

And I'll bet they'll do pretty much the same thing to free everyone from the Netherrealm.

Regarding Mortal Kombat Hell for a second, the Netherrealm is just another realm in the MK universe, not a crazy extra dimensional plane of existence. So if you're killed and end up there, can you just kind of walk back out and be resurrected?

No your bound there and can't leave unless someone turns you into a specter or a Wraith or some Necromancer summons you

if your just someone that lives there like Quan Chi or the two Oni its still hard to leave as there was a place were Quan Chi could escape the neatherealm after him and scorpion were sent back there but he needed to go there before he could leave and it appeared that only Quan Chi or some with powerful magic could open it

So its not like Hades then. Might be a little tricky to bring everyone back after all.

If you die you are bound there. As mentioned before there are a couple ways to leave but another method is what Ashrah was aiming for.

Basically a spiritual cleansing The Netherrealm, as explained to the Elder Sub-Zero, is a place for evil beings. By not having any evil in your soul you will be expelled from the realm.

Speaking of old Sub-Zero, Sireena seemed to believe he could free her. Since he was a living being passing through I guess he could potentially grab a soul like hers and take it with him when he departs.

[up]the problem is that even if they were not going to go to the neatherealm normally their souls belong to Quan Chi now so they have no way to disobey him

I thought that deal was forfeit. Raiden did not get Quan Chi's help and Shao Kahn did not conquer Earth.

The deal was Quan Chi got the souls of everyone who died in exchange for assisting Shao Kahn in the domination of Earth. He didn't and Shao Kahn was beaten.

Deals off as far as i can see. They're all still dead but their souls should be elsewhere.

Yeah. The deal wasn't that he'd only get the souls if Kahn won. He got them as soon as they died as his payment. He only had to give Kahn his alleigence, not victory.

Well that sucks.

My prediction is Shinnok will unleash the Legions of Hell in the next game, which includes the evilfied dead warriors. They'll get the evil beaten out of them and since they'r eno longer in he Netherrealm they can go to a better afterlife.

Say, did anyone see this? I had no idea somebody made a rock song for Deadly Alliance.

To be honest, techno sydrome was better. (Puts on hipster glasses)

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.

^^You might want to remember spoiler tags.

And oh god, I'd forgotten all about Adema. They were a shitty Nu-Metal band from the early 2000's, and that song was on DA's soundtrack. Its on the game disc too. TBH, it's a better song than most of their others, but it's still bad.

Tiers? In Mortal Kombat? I don't think so Tim.

By sheer virtue of being a participant in Mortal Kombat your levels of badassery have already surpassed the unimaginable and everyone there, jobber or no, is by default an Eldricth Abomination to any non-kombatant.

It is not heavily implied but I think it's safe to assume that Mortal Kombatants stopped being humans a long time ago and became flat out killing machines. This is slightly hinted at with Kabal who was just a regular cop in Earthrealm, but when he got transported to Outworld even if he had been horribly crippled he suddenly acquired super sonic speed, eye lasers and the ability to summon chainsaws from the ground. It would also explain how other seemingly normal humans like Kano can somehow break the laws of physics and float by spinning in mid air.

Point is, Sonya beating Elder Sub-Zero should come to no surprise at all. In essence all Kombatants have the same power level so to say, but very different abilities, strengths and weaknesses ultimately making it a matter of who out skills who. This is why no one even batted an eyelash when in the movie Johnny Cage of all people killed Scorpion AND Goro, but now Sonya can't beat Elder Sub-Zero because.....?? If the case that Sub-Zero is just more powerful, then she couldn't have moments later beat not only Raiden, but Kitana AND Jade at the same time, designated chick fight or not I doubt Sub Zero would have an easy time fighting the Edenian princess and her royal body guard.

This is exactly the reason why even though Liu Kang is the designated hero he's the only one that gets to do everything and has some SERIOUS opposition not even with big bads like Shang Tsung and Goro but his own allies like Johnny Cage, Raiden and neutral parties like Sub Zero and Scorpion, this isn't even counting his counerpart and rival Kung Lao.

There's no such thing as the only one allowed to kill you in Mortal Kombat, not even with Scorp and Sub, simply put; if they get the drop on you, even if it's Baraka or Sheeva, you're going down, hence why Liu Kang bit it and everyone still had a chance to defend themselves even without their hero gone. Should SF be in a similar position and Ryu was killed everyone is done for, not for Bison but cuz Akuma wont have anyone to stop him from killing the whole cast, because face it, ain't nobody that can canonly beat him.

Erm, okay from what I gathered there, you're saying that every combatant is pretty much equal in terms of power right? Well this is demonstratably not true. Yes, the villains tend to job to whatever hero they're fighting, but thats only because The Good Guys Always Win. Fact is, some fighters suck compared to others. Top of the pile are Raiden and Shao Kahn, who are gods, and can destroy pretty much anyone they fight with ease. Then you've got Liu Kang who's pretty much the Chosen One. After him are all the superpowered characters, such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Nightwolf, Quan Chi, Ermac, basically anyone with supernatural powers. Then finally you have the Badass Normal characters like Jax, Sonya, Johhny Cage, and Stryker.

At least, thats how it is in cutscenes anyway. Notice how Cage is entirely useless once he starts going up against the nastier villains, such as Ermac, and how Shao Kahn swats both him and Sonya aside like it's nothing. So pointing out moments in the story where this all gets thrown out the window once the actual gameplay takes over is a valid argument.

Though like I said before, the real reason has nothing to do with power levels, and is instead dictated by a combination of The Good Guys Always Win and just because the player happens to be controlling said good guy at the time.

And as for Akuma, isn't Gouken on pretty much the same level?

I have a particularly bad taste in my mouth when Sonya beat the Elder Sub-Zero because I played Mythologies quite a bit back in the day.

Not counting Liu Kang himself, Sub-Zero was probably the strongest Earthrealm warrior back then. He defeated all of Raiden's fellow Earthrealm gods, Quan Chi's personal assassins and Quan Chi himself.

The Original Sub-Zero possessed a level of skill and power that should be far beyond the likes of Sonya Blade.

Random note: Fujin was actually pretty cool in that game. I liked him at least. He had cool boss music and that scream was hilarious.

  • sigh* Speaking of Shao Kahn, I'm having a lot of trouble with the him at the end of the story. I keep trying to use the teleport + uppercut combo, but nothing he somehow pulls this bulshit shield where I can't attack him either 1) when he's performing moves or 2) when the fuck ever. I suspect the former, but the latter is seemingly likely. I mean, I can deal with the huge attack radius, the stunning moves, the inability to grab and him just generally being better, but that No-Sell just fucking tares it. Does anybody have any other idea on how to beat him?

teleport all the time then combo him

then don't pper cut him its not worth it do combo's then end with the superman attack he blocks when attacking so avoid him and wait for him to taunt as well

Hmm... Sub-Zero's ending refers to the heroic team-up of Sub-Zero and Scorpion as the Deadly Alliance. I'm intrigued to see if they roll with that idea, now that Shang Tsung is dead.

Hey, thanks a lot, man. I've been doing nothing but upper-cuts for about 2 hours and it's gotten me close, but never to an actual 2 round win. I'll try stringing combos and ending in flying into his face for a few hours, but if that doesn't work, well...anybody want a used copy of Mortal Kombat?

[up][up] Maybe if Subby comes Back from the Dead. Can't have much of a team up if Cyb-Zero is dead and serving Quan Chi in the Netherrealm, unless it's while Scorpion is still being used by Quan Chi.
