Well, he can't read, so he's gotta get his amusement from somewhere, when not hitting people with an oversized sword.

I just finished reading Warbreaker. Great book.

My Kindle version is weird though. It has annotations linked on the start/end of every chapter, which gets annoying. It's also riddled with typos and weird formatting.

Also...something went wrong I think. There was a baffling Reveal that didn't actually exist. Near the end of the book, Vasher has been captured and Denth tossed Nightblood into the sea. When Vivenna finds Nightblood the sword explains that 'Denth' is actually named Treledees, meaning the mercenary was the high priest of the God King all along. Except for that he isn't, they're two different characters and they're in two places at the same time.

No idea what happened there. It got me thumbing through earlier chapters trying to reconcile a plot twist that didn't happen.

I did find that strange/confusing too. I think that perhaps the implication is that since Denth and Vasher are Returned and were thus likely worshiped as gods at some point, to the end that the High Priest of the religion was named after that deity/Denth. So, it would be like having a priest named Peter as well as St. Peter in a story.

[up][up]Denth's real name, iirc, is Vara Treledees, not just Treledees. Since he was one of the Five Scholars and a famous historical personage, I'd figure that the High Priest was named after him and there is not a deeper connection.

I thought that was a given name / surname thing, part of why I was confused. That would make sense. Though the situation is still being told that Bob is really Peter when there's a character named Pete.[lol]

Like I said, my copy is badly edited. Either Sanderson had no editor or something went wrong with this e-book.

Brandon Sanderson is scheduled to be a Guest of Honor at Minicon 50, Easter weekend 2015, in Bloomington, Minnesota. Fans from the surrounding area might want to consider attending. We also have scheduled Larry Niven and Jane Yolen.

Firefight, sequel to Steelheart, is out. I haven't got it yet, though. We should probably have split the page by books before this, but I suppose it's too short to be worth the effort. Maybe we can at least soft-split it.

Nope, sorry, my mistake. Misread the damn website—they had the release date hidden in a corner. It's January 6th next year.

Hmm. So we'll probably get Rithmatist 2 in mid-2015, and then the third Stormlight Archive mid-2016, is my guess...

Just finished The Rithmatist. Good book, very interesting setting, slightly bland protagonist. Too much setup and focus on mysteries that were never revealed. It's a book that you can see was written with a much greater focus on being the first step to a story than an interest in standing on its own.

That is a problem Sanderson has been having lately, but that book probably has the worst of it. For The Stormlight Archive, for example, lots of hints are dropped as to the nature of this, that, and the other thing, fueling tons of speculation. For The Rithmatist, we don't really have enough context to even guess. What's a Forgotten Shadow? Who knows; wait for the next book.

I did love that major twist at the end, with the Jerk with a Heart of Gold teacher who turns out to be pretty much the exact opposite.

I TOTALLY loved it! My local bookstore has The Emperor's Soul for sale. Is it worth it?

[up]Yes. Yes. You must read The Emperor's Soul, especially if you loved Elantris. The Emperor's Soul won a Hugo Award, and it's just damn good.

Also, just wait until The Stormlight Archive.

So it seems Sanderson's unpublished Cosmere novel White Sand will be made into a series of graphic novels, starting next year.

A brilliant, new fantasy world, White Sand is split into two halves: on one side are the Daysiders, and on the other the Darksiders. Daysiders have a unique ability to control and manipulate sand, bending it to their will to attack, or protect, as they wish. Darksiders have their own unique abilities and culture, and must wear thick dark lenses while on the Dayside. Generally speaking, Daysiders and Darksiders do not get along…and White Sand follows the adventures of one particular Daysider, a boy named Kenton.
*notes suspicious lack of elaboration of what Darksiders can do*

White Sand isn't coming out until next year? I was hoping that since it was a comic, he'd be able to do it faster, but I suppose that doesn't actually make sense. Even if his part is over relatively quickly (and there's no guarantee that it will be), drawing everything is still extremely time consuming.

Wait, I thought Khriss was the main character of White Sand? A bit disappointed by that, but hopefully she'll still be prominent. Also, maybe we'll finally learn why Baon (Blunt from The Stormlight Archive) thought that there might be something to the magic fish.

Looking forward to this.
