Pick an Anime for Barkey

Honestly, most of the anime listed in the OP are some of my favorites, so I can't really think of anything other than what I previously mentioned. I do think that Blue Gender is a bit underrated.

On a less sillier note, perhaps Samurai Champloo? It's done by the same guy who did Bebop, and its a pretty good show on its own, though it may not be exactly what you're looking for.

Guyver is pretty good, but some people have to be in a certain mood for it. Sho, the protagonist, can come off as too whiny at times, but his reaction to his situation is a refreshing alternative to the boy scout archetype that was relatively commonplace at the time of the story's inception.

Black Lagoon is good.

I've seen Berserk already, I liked it.

I'm watching Planetes, and it's cool, but I really can't stand the girl, Tanabe. Can't fucking stand her idealistic bullshit she keeps spouting.

She gets better. Also, Boku No Pico

Gungrave. Much better than the game, believe you me; Goodfellas with a sorta-zombie-ish sorta-mutant-ish sci-fi bend to it is how I'd describe it, though the whole thing feels a bit like the serious parts of Trigun, right down to the art. The first episode kinda sucks, but it gets better in the second once the extended flashback starts.

Read Hellsing yet?

If you don't mind jejune artwork, Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure is OTT fun.

Let's see... y'like a bit of mindfuckery? 'Cause Perfect Blue is excellent for people who don't mind disturbing imagery.

If you want to see idealists taken down a peg, I'd recommend Bokurano which is one of the more depressing animes out there despite having one of the largest body counts without involving space travel.

If you want some Old-School Dogfighting, I recommend Area88.

FLAG is worth a shot. To sum it up, 'Photojournalism + Iraq war + Transforming Mecha.'

I'm also somewhat curious as to how much you'd like Sword Of The Stranger.

FLAG looks kind of neat.

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned Fullmetal Alchemist yet. Action-filled, technology without mecha, surprisingly good English dubs.

I confess to also being a fan of Revolutionary Girl Utena, but that sprang from my enjoyment of Undocumented Features, which I have no idea whether Barkey has heard of, let alone would like.

Utena seems kind of outside Barkey's current viewing tastes. FMA looks like it'd be up your street, though - either the first anime, or the manga/Brotherhood.

You know...wouldn't the anime/manga forum be a much better place for this thread?

As for a suggestion...........anything Ghibli? The lowest opinion I've ever heard on a Ghibli film is "it's okay". So you can't fail with those films.

But from the sounds of it, he probably is the type who likes the old stuff.

I second Fullmetal Alchemist, not sure if I should recommend Brotherhood or regular though. That's a whole thread all by itself. Only seen a few eps of Brotherhood. Like it. It follows the manga to the end while the regular dies out before then. So I'd recommend Brotherhood.

The periods in these posts are hard to see. Can I change that? Or is that uncontrollable to me? I'm starting to like Rorshauch's style of speech. Mostly just for internet.

Skip the first anime, it's nothing in comparison to Brotherhood.

Damn, makes me regret not watching Brotherhood. Only a few episodes seen, surprisingly different then regular. I hear its due to following the manga more then previous. I'm getting off-topic though. The first one to mention Naruto dies.

Can't you just download all the episodess? The subs are all finished anyways...and Brotherhood gets good the moment the first anime started to suck.

Been a while, haven't seen the entire series. Not to mention the new movies and such. But I'll recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion. Surprised when I use to watch it on Adult Swim. It was all english voices of course, yet had expletives that required censoring, thought they would have left them out of english. Odd to me. Liked it though.

But...it's like...less than 10% of the entire show. I mean, yeah, the main character is a Pedophile Priest who doesn't bother hiding it, but...he has Sylar's power.

Heh. I think Barkey may have watched more anime than me.

How about Panty and Stocking? I know it sounds bad, but it has quite a lot more in common with adult (not pornographic, mind) Western animated comedy.

How about FLCL? That might be a better suggestion. It's got a lot of neat stuff to offer, and- with only 6 episodes- involves minimal commitment.
