Don't remember how it ended up in my reading list, but I do read it when I bother to.
IIRC there was a thread that mentioned it, but it was Archived To Elsewhere.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I thought there used to be one as well, but I checked and it's not to be found. so far my favorite arc was the one with the space military people.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Read Jack?
zerky was the one who kicked off the article!
Her favourite arc is probably the one with Silverblue looping a day in hell over and over again; zerky has a soft spot for Groundhog Day Loops as long as they're not like the endless eight. The current arc (Megan's Run) is also another favourite. The idea of a bunch of people missing their chance to die and then being able to live as Type III immortals is a fun one. It could probably work in a comic of its own if done right.
Also, is zerky the only one who prefers the art in the guest strips far more than the art in the main comic?
I doubt it. I like both, personally.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I read it but not as regularly as I once did. I think his art's gotten better from how it started out by a lot.
I follow it, but my liking tends to wax and wane. So far, the current arc (Megan's Run) has kinda been hit and miss (more "miss" than "hit" with the Fanservice segment that ended this week, IMO), but I'm still sticking with it, just to find out how Megan is handled in Hell ("handled" both in-story and as a character Mr. Hopkins is writing).
Still, though, the channeling scene was nowhere near as eye-gougingly bad as "Frigid McThunderbones".
As for the arc I liked best, I'd have to think about it a bit. Some of the arcs I hadn't read for ages, and right now I've not really the time for an Archive Binge.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpFrigid Mc Thunderbones was a joke set though...
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Yes, it was a joke. I just thought it sucked as one, never mind looked at as a story.
All your safe space are belong to Trump- shrug* I don't remember explicitly disliking a segment, so I assume it was alright. I'd have to go through and (gasp) rebinge to be certain.
It's quite a testament to Megan's resilience that after her Life-or-Limb Decision, she's not the one screaming.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."yeahh.... drip is a bit intense.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I will just post to say that it is on my "MUST FINISH EVENTUALLY" list, along with several others. I have a bad habit of not finishing things.
Ah, there is a thread.
After reading about it here on TV Tropes and reading a bit about it on the Bad Webcomics Wiki, I got curious and read a bunch of it last night - up past the... Arleost's restaurant arc? Somewhere after there.
Thoughts on it for me are mixed. On one hand, I can see why it's on the Bad Webcomics Wiki, and yet, I think it has some good points.
First... Art. Personally, I prefer more realistic animals and furries over the toon-style, but I won't hold the toon-style against the artist. I think there is a place for violent cartoon animals. *Laughs.* However, those first few arcs... the artwork needs some serious cleanup. I saw lots of background-smutz. I also tend to like characters to have defined noses. I was also a bit annoyed at not being able to tell who is what species. I had to read the Tropes character-page to realize that Farrago was a ferret. I thought she was a panda-skunk hybrid. I also couldn't tell that those were stumped wings behind her when she was introduced, it looked like her hair to me - red and feathers in her hair, because she was drawn so flatly. It took another panel that showed her from the back and someone talking about her wings to make me realize she was a Broken Angel . I saw a few later-arc pages from links on the page for the comic here and saw the art becoming a bit cleaner.
I still wish the furs were more realistic, but that may just be my personal preference.
The Storyline. Clarity. I need it. I suppose it's explained later, but it would have been nice to know from early on - WHY is Fnar in Hell? I mean, I guess he's a punishment for his mother, for whatever she did, but it still doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm biased, however, by having read someone's "correction comic" on DA (linked from the Bad Webcomics Wiki) that depicted Fnar as a lonely child who did a Refusing Paradise and a You Are Worth Hell because he *wanted* to be with his mommy, no matter what. The "correction" was much more heartwarming, in my opinion. And it actually made sense.
Arleost's arc was even worse. Okay, so she has the power to tell the future and plays it like it's going to be some grand Heroic Sacrifice on her part to warn the party of four of their deaths. Yet NO WHERE do we see her making a deal with Jack over it, or being "Forbidden to use her power for this specific purpose." There's NO EXPLANATION OF THE MECHANICS OF THE DEAL.
Which drives me nuts, especially considering the ending. I wanted to storm the gates of Hell to rescue her. That Downer Ending also made no sense, considering at least one Hope Spot in one of the earlier story arcs and the implication that people escape Hell by realizing their riddle of sin. Daymn, the author needs to watch him some Haibane Renmei . He'd wind up writing this kind of thing better. I was expecting some kind of Earn Your Happy Ending seeing that Arleost realized her need to let go of control AND that she did a Heroic Sacrifice to save other's lives, exchanging her soul for theirs in what are, again, unexplained mechanics. But... no.
I don't know. There's actually quite a lot of interesting things going on with this comic. I find Grim Reapers inherently interesting characters. The karmic justice stuff is fun to read for the really morally horrible characters, but... even as I can forgive the way some controversial issues are handled, some of the story is... more plot-holes than Cartoon Cheese .
In which I attempt to be a writer.Well yes it is a dark drama but I think the best part about Jack is the way it has be crafted; perfect story line, fine characterization, subtle designing and timely updates. There is everything that makes it good enough so I agree with you
A Webcomic Lover..!I know this is an old post but the site hasn't been working for about a week now, is it dead for good this time?
Per a post on his Fur Affinity account (can be read without an account there), pholph.com has been permanently taken offline due to personal stuff.
He has an archived file of the comic posted on Dropbox, 1.04GB, which is free for distribution as long as it remains complete, unaltered, and free.
He'll be continuing to post on FA (see the first link for details), but those will require an account set to access "Adult" posts. Any accounts not set to show them or anonymous browsers (no login) won't see them.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpAn update. The entire comic is available here. http://jackrabbit.thecomicseries.com/archive/
Anyone else read it? as It's a rather easy to spoil plot I'd want to see where anyone is before I start saying things other than "How 'bout all that drama?"
Anyone who hasn't read it and starts to, I warn you that Jack Is at times both Squick and NSFW, as well as the disturbing end of things on numerous occasions. It's a rather dark comic. but a good one, I think.
