That about describes my feelings.
Still need More Dakka, and it's about time to start a real WAAAAAGH.Well shit. I just got SC 4.
Likes many underrated webcomics<Idly wonders if the female characters will be getting yet another round of boob jobs this time around>
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. How are they going to make Cervantes more awesome in this game? He's already a ghost zombie pirate. I think he's on fire in IV, as well.
...Add screaming soul particle effects to his swords?
^^ <Hopes that doesn't happen>
I also hope that story mode is somewhat more complex.

"Without a fairy, you're not even a real man!" ~ Mido from Ocarina of TimeI'm surprised anybody wants to resurrect it after freaking SC 4. I can only assume this will be Soul Calibur Xtreme Volleyball, I can't think of any other way to squeeze any more brainless fanservice into the game.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984^ Amen. I look back at Soul Blade and despair at what the series has become over a decade hence.
I find it amusing that So'Cal has basically usurped Dead Or Alive as the "boob fighter" nowadays.
But seriously, I hope not. It's hard enough to take seriously what with the mom that protects her children by running around in increasingly revealing toga attire getting into fights to the death and the dominatrix character happening to be chaste and the Soul Calibur itself becoming another world threateing force. Not to mention zombie gunslinger cowboy pirates.
And I just bought the PSP So'Cal with Kratos in it, but then I realized it didn't seem to have the story mode from IV in it. So I'll just wiki IV's story and hope they come up with a better single player campaign.

I'm not familiar with the PSP version, but based on what passed for a "story" in SCIV, it might have been in there and you just didn't notice; it's barebones to the point of virtually non-existent. Either way, you didn't miss anything.
Just checked. There's something called the Gauntlet, which is just a minor story mode made for pick-up-and-play. Although I assume it takes place after IV as it mentions some battle between Siefried and Nightmare being over and the Big Bad from IV is already selectable.
I do recall reading somewhere else that all the Gauntlet does is explain why Kratos is there (it had something to do with Sophitia...because she happens to be Greek and a scion of one of the Greek gods *).

Help?.. please...Hoping they listen to some feedback and improve on some stuff. Make story mode actually good this time, and bring back master mode or whatever it was called in SC 1/2. And do some good voiceovers this time. And add some more oomph to those hits. And finally: NO GUEST CHARACTERS.
Hoping Algol comes back though(just more balanced), he was boss.

I'm still finding it ironic that even after stuffing two main games full of titty monsters and angry demihumans the most interesting new character is the French fop Joke Character thrown into the game to satisfy Sony's requirements for PSP ports.
Soul Calibur 3 i find one of the best games of all time. I can barely play Soul Calibur 4.
I dont mind the Fanservice, even if SC 4 brought it to ridiculous levels. I just want the gameplay to be tightened up, the story to be comprehensible, and the create-a-character to not be stupid. Soul Blade was superior to most of the caliburs in many ways, most especially that it didn't bog the player down with too much crap. Want to hit stuff? Arcade mode! Want to hit stuff and read stuff? Story mode! There! Done! No shops with randomized inventory, guest characters, inane minigames, choices to make that lead to repetitive encounters, complex weapon customization, level-ups, tournament circuits, or stupid paths to a secret ending that require a Guide Dang It!.
Bleye knows Sabers.Screw the story, just give me tightened gameplay, more than two freaking new characters this time, an arcade mode and online versus. Oh, and Hwang back, thanks muchly.
I will never mind Guest Characters, because more playable characters in a fighting game is always, in my opinion, a good thing, unless they are op or somesuch (coughyodacough). I never understood why people disliked the idea of guest characters in general - sure, Star Wars in Soul Calibur was ridiculous, but never game destroyingly so, merely in a hilarious way.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The thing is, I think a "guest character made by a famous manga artist" fighter could actually be a pretty good idea. But it doesn't fit in with an established series like this, at least not in the sheer bulk last seen. SCIV really feels like the somebody assumed the game could NEVER sell on the merit of being the fourth Soul Calibur and they threw a bunch of gimmicks at it to "save" it. "Kids love anime, get some anime guys in this!", "Everybody loves Star Wars, putting Darth Vader in this will sell a billion copies!", "GAMERS DON'T GET ANY, PUT TITS IN!", "DOES ANYBODY OWN MORTAL KOMBAT?! WE CAN PUT MORTAL KOMBAT IN RIGHT? MORTAL KOMBAT IS WHEN YOU BEHEAD THE GUY AFTER YOU WON RIGHT?!"
I honestly can't bring myself to play this game anymore. I liked making a new costume for Cassandra. I hate watching her spiffy new outfit shatter after two blows and now she's in her underwear. Every. Single. Match.
Come on. They could have fleeced SC fans with DLC. Sell the removed/replaced characters to the old SC fans for $5. Sell the old costumes from previous games, $10 for everything Ivy ever wore. Here's a dozen new random parts for the creation mode, it's only like a buck a piece.
What did we ultimately get? Stripper Santa suits.

"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984<shrug> The fact that you basically end up in your underwear every time you use a created character is alternatively amusingly or annoying, depending on my mood, but I never paid much attention to DLC (beyond getting Vader on the 360 and a few create a character things), and all the characters I care about (bar Olcadan) are already in the game.
A few tweaks to clothing damage so that whole outfits don't explode at the merest touch and I'll be fine.
Oh, and bring back the special create a character styles. Especially the Staff, Kunai, and Kick Blade styles. Making basically alternate versions of characters we already have put a slight damper on things.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I don't mind the fanservice (I actually find it really funny, which is odd since I usually don't), but I also don't think they can make Sophitia and Ivy wear any less than what they've got in IV, so they can only improve... Right?
I still find Hilde hilarious since she was basically created so they could say "Hey look, we have a fully clothed female character!" (which is what her primary appeal was going by the interviews before IV was released) and then ruined that by giving her a strangely attractive face and had her appear in the first game in the series that introduced armor breaking (which was her secondary appeal).
If they continue with the CAC thing, they should bring back the unique styles from 3 and don't make the original character styles unlockables if they don't want to come up with a new way to use already existing weapons (i.e. Zasalamel's scythe). I feel less inclined to make my own characters when they're just mimics of the originals.
Please tell me I'm not encountering those in Broken Destiny...
Dampierre doesn't seem to be that bad actually, though I don't know if he'll appear in any future games. I just like him because of his vaguely Eggman-like (if he had slimmed down) alternate costume.◊
Her being fully clothed is ruined by her having a pretty face?
Also, it's worth noting that even with full clothing damage she's still more fully clothed than any of the other girls in the game.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Eh, probably shouldn't have used the word "ruined". I was basically saying Hilde's still fanservicey, just not in same way as the other females. *

I don't think you will remove Guest Fighters from Soul Calibur, especially when they appear as often as Versus games between two franchises in fighting games now.
Wizard Needs Food Badly...
The next guest fighters will be Alex Mercer and Cole MacGrath
