Was it over how not to make a film?
I'm SO glad I went to see it in theaters. Really awful movie of course, but that's the fun of it. The crowd was top-notch, especially a group of guys several rows behind me that had clearly seen the movie way to many times and knew exactly what jokes to make and when. I'd highly recommend seeing this at night in a theater, it's quite the experience.
Reading Greg Sestero's book about the production of the film, Disaster Artist, is way more interesting than the film itself, casting it as a perfect example of poor filmmaking.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."It seems Tommy and Greg are back at it again in Best F(r)iends. Unfortunately Tommy is not directing but it still looks like a fun trip. Thoughts?
Hey, you guys still know how James Franco is doing a movie on The Disaster Artist called The Masterpiece where his brother Dave will be Greg Sestero and James himself will be Wiseau, right?
Anyone looking forward to that?
Extremely. Especially after reading The Disaster Artist and being enthralled by it.
I doubt it will be very good, but I doubt it will be wonderfully bad like The Room either. And it certainly won't out-room The Room. I wouldn't expect too much entertainment value out of it, in other words. Still, it's surprising to see Tommy and Greg in another movie together.
What would Darth Vader sound like if he was Tommy Wiseau?
He would sound like… Kylo Ren? That's pretty scary actually. >.>
Huh... Wiseau's acting almost looks not-totally-terrible in this... It's almost shocking. I'd watch the thing just out of curiosity.
So apparently The Disaster Artist film screened at SXSW 2017, and it turns out Franco directed the film entirely in-character as Tommy Wiseau.
So far, it is getting very good reviews. Now I really want to check it out.
Huh. I could've sworn they were renaming the movie The Masterpiece. I guess they just decided to stick with The Disaster Artist. And that's not a bad thing.
Oh Yeah, the film was called The Masterpiece during the production.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesBumping up this thread since The Disaster Artist has it's first trailer out now.
That scene gets even funnier later in the book.
I'm just glad to actually be seeing footage.
x3 That trailer is beautiful. I remember reading that shooting that particular scene took incredibly long because Wiseau kept forgetting his lines, but seeing "Take 67" still got a chuckle out of me.
You learn stuff everyday...
…Way to screw up a reference.
You can definitely see how long it took because the film crew are wearing about 4 different outfits in this one scene.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre Adventure:
Oh man, I needed something funny to get me out of the funk the whole "Archie Sonic" thing that's happening in the STH thread was getting me into (off-topic).
That trailer was what I needed.
I finally caught up on my podcast listening so now I can listen to The Disaster Artist audio book.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. After listening to The Disaster Artist I am disappointed but not surprised what a huge asshole Tommy is. But Greg was also kind of an asshole, in a weak willed spineless kind of way.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. There's a reason why he never says what amount of money he agreed to do The Room for.
"I don't know what's worse: that everyone has their price, or that the price is always so low."
Greg's account came across as someone confused and desperate, which is why it was so easy for Tommy to make him do his bidding.
Given Wiseau's asshole-ish behavior regarding criticisms of The Room, to the point of giving out bullshit copyright takedowns of different reviews of the film done by Doug Walker and Allison Pregler, in addition to a copyright takedown of an interview Walker conducted with him years after the fact, not to mention his attempts to play off The Room as being a "dark comedy" despite it obviously being meant to be a serious film gone wrong, it doesn't surprise me that he's an asshole.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
I watched the film at scool two years ago, along With Troll 2. It was quite the treat.
Srg. Dornan: Troper, what are you doing here?! Get back to your post!!!
