There you go.

I like it, really.

That is the second page of the article, BTW.

Not bad. After reading (that page of) the article I can kind of see what they're striving for in that pic.

Now watch as the fanboys get into a frenzy because Lara isn't as buxom or even as fan-servicey as she once was. I approve of the direction they're taking this. She even looks more intimidating than she used to.

Looks like I'll be looking forward to both this and the Devil May Cry reboot in the coming year.

Not bad. A bit bland, and not really recognizable as Lara, though.

So long as she can back-flip from one ledge and one-handed grab the next, I'll be happy.

I am slightly disappointed with the "no unlockable bikini" bit. The least they could do is start a rumor that there might be one...

[up] If you really want to know, it's the third, although Angel of Darkness wasn't a plot reboot.

Anyway, she looks a lot like Tricia Helfer to me..

I wouldn't know, I don't play the games. I just know I heard about them updating Laura Croft's look more than once before. Turns out it was only twice.

Whatever fans were left didn't mind her new look in the games post-Angel Of Darkness.

It's funny, I remember when she was supposed to be the next gaming icon and not the butt of every sex-sells joke. Arguably, she didn't need a make over so much as a really good new game. I also remember an article when the second was announced and the developers mentioned they didn't want to milk the franchise and each game was supposed to be fresh and excellent. For five-six years there was a new Tomb Raider title each Christmas and in the time we went graphically from Quake 1 to Quake 3 and beyond, the only graphic upgrade Tomb Raider really received was extra polygons in her breasts.

I really do like it. The new look sure as hell gives off a vibe of badassery. And it might just help shake the stereotype of male gamers being immature horndogs... Then again i AM an immature horndog... Anyways, a fresh take on gameplay and setting is going to do great things for the series. I just hope it has smooth controls. For me the Tomb Raider games have always had crummy controls.

Yeah, I hope the developers remember to add good gameplay alongside all this character development. And color, too. Just because Laura's color scheme will be more muted doesn't mean the whole world should be.

...She's still pretty damn hot, too. Being less Animesque helps in that regard.

Hell yes. Seriously.

Just...LOOK at it. It's gritty in the "there is actual grit on it" way and not the overused way. It's believable. You could conceivably see this as a woman who has been climbing around the asscrack of nowhere for several days.

Also: her head is larger than her boobs. I cannot stress enough how wonderful that is to see.

I like it. Barring all of the dirt. It looks a lot more practical than a lot of the outfits they've stuck Lara in, and Lara herself looks more like a sensible adventurer than a sexualised character who also does adventuring.

I guess Nathan Drake is rubbing off on her.

We wanted to make a girl that was somewhat familiar, yet had a special quality about her – something in the way her eyes look and her expression in her face that makes you want to care for her. That was our number one goal when we started thinking about her visualization – that people would have empathy for Lara, while at the same time knowing she has this inner strength that will allow her to become a hero . . . What dropped away pretty quickly was the hardness that she had. She is strong and we love Lara Croft for that strength, but she was almost so strong that we were always one step away from her. That was one thing that we all agreed on right away – to try and soften her up enough so that you could step into her life. All of the character design decisions came from trying to make her believable. We didn’t want to make her a sexual object. She is a character that we want you to believe in.

Speaking as someone who agrees with virtually everything Yahtzee has said about Croft as a character, I'm happy with this. But it feels kind of weird to still call this character Lara Croft. It's like if Duke Nukem stopped shitting down people's necks.

I did love the line about how in focus tests people looked at the old Croft's breasts, but the new Croft's eyes.

[up] Well, they've already achieved that. For me, at least. Clean off all of the dirt and I think she'll look better than the old Lara. I'm already feeling a more paternal sense (as a gamer. You know what I mean) towards her than I felt for the previous versions of Lara.

inb4 'Wah! Wah! Lara shouldn't need protecting! She's too feminine!' or some such ridiculous crock.

Don't worry about the dirt. She apparently is going to start out clean and become more and more beat up over time, like The Prince Of Persia.
