I honestly don't remember. And it was so recently, too. I must've been neuralized.
I'm a skeptical squirrel^^^ Hey, I only spent three hours on here today! That is progress.
I...don't...remember..

Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.I'm fairly sure it was from the World Of Warcraft forums. I remember once on those forums some guy failed at anatomy and was met by a resounding chorus of people linking to the trope. We're talking a good 5-point c-c-c-combo!

Random page from google.
Was linked here via another forum. My first page was Pet the Dog.
#IceBearForPresidentI was reading this Pokemon fanfic a couple years ago and I came across the author(and site creator)'s update talking about how she discovered her site had a TV Tropes page.
IIRC, she warned that hours would be spent here. Of course, she was right.

"Wisdom is the prime thing. Acquire wisdom; and with all that you acquire, acquire understanding." -Proverbs 3:7, NWTThis is the site's entry, by the way.
"Wisdom is the prime thing. Acquire wisdom; and with all that you acquire, acquire understanding." -Proverbs 3:7, NWTA few years ago, some guy had joined a Command & Conquer fan forum that I frequented. He made some good posts, sounded reasonably intelligent, approachable, and friendly (a rarity on the internet, I know) but used some weird wording (namely Chessmaster, Deconstruction, and Xanatos Roulette) particulary whenever he was talking about the storyline of the C&C franchise. Upon asking him what he meant, he offered a basic explanation, along with a link that lead to the trope's sample page.
within an hour, I found myself lost on the Axe-Crazy page, looking at a pic with Aeris wielding a bloody chainsaw, wondering out loud "WTF is this page about?!" and the rest was history!

Was searching for info on some vidyagaem on google and accidentally clicked on the link to TV Tropes. Found it interesting, browsed for a while, disconnected. The website's style (as someone said: mixture of literary analysis Wikipedia's format and 4chan's nerdiness and fondness on inside humor) fit seemed pretty cool to me so I began visiting it regularly, often spending whole nights reading what tropes apply to some obscure anime I've never watched or what are the examples of So Bad Its Horrible (Tv Tropes Will Ruin Your Life amirite? Endless links here are even more endless than on TOW, probably thanks to more informal style and acceptance of non-notable works). After a long period of lurking (occasionally editting as a guest when it was still possible) I've registered because I thought it would be nice to contribute. I haven't editted wiki yet though, but I sure will.
"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - BarkeyA Catena strip that parodied Jumping the Shark had the URL for TV Tropes in one corner. I checked it out and lost maybe six accumulated months so far to the site. Great months though :)
My discovery of tv tropes is preserved here
Read my stories!I laughed all the way through Unfortunate Implications. It's funny because it's true.
Anime geemu wo shinasai!click on link from comment section of one anime blog i read.
Linked here from Toon Zone in July of 2008, about a week or two before turning 14.
On German manga/anime site, I talked with someone about videogames. Said someone described Shadow as Ensemble Dark Horse turned The Scrappy.
I was like: Huh?
He was like: Do you know TV Tropes and how good is your English?
I was like: No and good enough.
In the next message he gave me links to said tropes. And the rest is history.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.I was writing a story that had a romance between two of the main characters. I was struggling with making the romance seem natural, so I was googling romance writing tips. I ended up on one of the Romance Tropes pages (can't remember which) and ended up reading every page on the index.
I never did finish that story.

I Googled "anime stereotypes".
"Shit, our candidate is a psychopath. Better replace him with Newt Gingrich."
Huh. It is third in the results
Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken. Unrelated ME1 FanficActually, one of my classmates was looking at the Death Trap trope page. I ask him about it, skim a few pages, and the next thing I know I'm spending hours a day on tvtropes.
Don't Stop Me Now...
Was trying to find information about the plans for The King Of Fighters 94, and me using the word characters brought up our page on the series. I was hooked.
