[up]

Back in the Worf episode, Chuck said that Worf was paralyzed from the waist down. However I remember Worf being paralyzed from the neck down. I recall when he first wakes up he says he can't move because he thinks he's in a restraining field. If he could have moved his arms then wouldn't he have done so? And he never actually sits up or moves his arms the entire episode...

Out of universe, it's a goof. In universe it's Worf not having leverage due to being a paraplegic.

Somedays I outright miss it.

Cosigned. If any wrestling fans here remember, WCW was a disgrace in the nineties. They just threw whatever shit at the screen that they felt like. Today, you can rewatch it on the Network, and it makes you nostalgia because it at least provoked feeling. The current product is very samey. It's been focus tested and market researched into oblivion, and big companies are cowardly by nature, so they won't sacrifice even one penny in pursuit of a fresh idea.

One thing I don't miss, though, is nineties Spider-Man. If anything it was a sneak preview of what Didio and Quesada would inflict on us.

90s Spider-man... yeah don't think I miss much there.

But Supes and others? It was a time of just "let's try this!" with a strange restraint that the silver & golden age comics didn't have which ended up making it weirder somehow.

Sums up the Valiant plot of the review

"Whatever else one could say about Jim Shooter, the results speak for themselves. Under him, Valiant was growing by leaps and bounds and producing fantastic comics. The minute he was forced out of the company, it all immediately went to hell and never recovered. That pretty much says it all."

And here I'm sad to admit that I did buy one of those 90's era books that were part of the problem:

I left comics for good after that. I had a few fond memories from The '80s, when Daddy bought me a Sgt Rock comic book and then a friend lent me his Teen Titans book. An old boyfriend shared his X-men comics and I was interested, but the Continuity Lockout was a turn off.

And so I thought "Hey there are two comic books with girl heroes!"

Ugh...

The poor guy I bought them from had a lot of those 90's era collectable fads. When I visited his shop in the mall a few months latter, it was now a Hickroy Farms. For those outside the US, they sell various smoked meats, cheese and other foor pr0n that is NSFW (Not Safe For Waistline).

In all honesty....

They should have just got rid of Peter...

If they had gotten rid of Peter the same rot would have set in on Ben.

That's what this series has been about: The problem wasn't the character, but everything behind him. The root was rotting and it was killing the tree.

[up]Pretty much.

Heck, in the long term, considering how, no matter what they picked, the Clone Saga was going to be stretched out and turned into a mess no matter which way they went, keeping Peter probably allowed the character to survive.

Had they stuck with Ben, the character's introduction and taking of the mantle would've been such a mess audiences would've never returned to Spider-Man. It would've been impossible to dissociate Ben from the Clone Saga. At least Peter had a name and nostalgia to bank on that some audiences would forgive the bad storyline.

Oh, Harris, always ruining everything he touches.

Harris? you mean Harras?

To be fair he's done plenty of good (Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.). And plenty of crap too (New 52).

And here is the problem that makes comics a deal breaker for casual fans like me:

On one hand are the fans who want the characters to never change, the marketing department and editors who don't want to lose said fans and the years of backstory that gets most of the Fan Dumb up in arms if anything is changed.

There are the fans that clamor for anything new: "we don't want to see the same old [INSERT CHARACTER/BOOK/SERIES HERE]"

And worse, there are those who are two fans in one: they say they want change, then scream Ruined Forever.

The reason why they don't think there's "drama" in marriage is because marriage is an aspect of real life, and they don't want the escapism of Peter Parker swinging through the air and stopping bad guys being infected with the drama of things that people have to endure in the real world.

And that's just hilarious since Spider-Man is supposed to be the character who DOES face the real life challenges of the world! That was what made his character so appealing to begin with: his ability to relate to the reader. But the truth is that the reader has grown up. The reader got married, had kids, has relatives that die, and they have to move on. The reader changed. But Peter Parker has not.

...

But you know what? Maybe they should reboot Spider-Man. After all, if the creative teams are unwilling to let him get out of his high school life, then why the hell isn't he still there?

There is absolutely no problem with the new 52, some would ever argue that DC was better than it was immediately before, but some editing houses were in stupid situations, like living legend George Perez walking out from Superman because Grant Morrison would not allow anyone to know what the status quo of the boy scout was.

[up]Red Hood and the Outlaws. Starfire was a good example of a gateway character from a Gateway Series: Teen Titans. Yeah, I was a fan girl of the cartoon.

And what did the "New 52" comic give us? See Linkara's review of "Red Hood and the Outlaws"...

Anyway, I said in general, not "every book that came out was good".

The new 52 version of Blue Beetle was godawful. Like, they took all the fun and charm of the Giffen/Rogers/Sturges original and stripped that away. One of my biggest disappointment in comic. "Jaime's getting a comic again... Oh, and it sucks." In particular the comic's refusal to really deal with Jaime's personal life and use the amazing cast of supporting characters. Insteading eschewing that for the most boring, by the number super hero plots it can find.

What drove me away from New 52 was:Making everything darker for darkness sake, turning Billy Batson into a jackass, the Culling which was just awful, turning Joker into a borderline Villain Sue, among other things.
