Overrated: Realistic sports games. As a troper on IJBM once said, "leave realism to reality and do something with games that you can't do in real life" (paraphrasing). Underrated: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Though for some reason it's not as fun as Mario Kart 64.
edit: I meant "with Banjo-Kazooie" version.

Now posting as Enzeru, this serves as an emergency avatar backup accountMost overrated is Kingdom Hearts 2 in my opinion I repeat MY opinion. But maybe it's because I really don't like button mashers.
Kingdom Hearts 1 at least involves a little more skill though. Decent but not great.

Help?.. please...Damn, more reason why Avalon Code is underrated. I only expected the good gameplay but nearing the end the story REALLY deeply connected with me.

Help?.. please...Overrated: Tetris. The level of praise this game get's is just ridiculous. Game Trailers.com had a poll for the best and worst games of all time and this got the second higest amount of votes for best game after Ocarina of Time. That's a real stretch for what is essentially a mini game.
Underrated: Psychonauts. The plot is original. The characters are funny. The gameplay is fun. This did not deserve to be a flop.
Tuork Evolution is underrated. I actually enjoyed that game. Sure the graphics sucked, the story made no sense (not that there was much of it) and there were some other problems. But it was entertaining, there were lots of cool weapons, fun cheats to use, there were dinosaurs and the soundtrack was great.
Seeing all these piss ant tropers trying to talk tough makes me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.Overrated: Final Fantasy VII, despite being a genuinely good game. Actually, put all the F Fs on there, to some degree. They're not as good as they could be, but there will always be people swearing by each installment as the second coming of Christ.
Underrated: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Lovecraftian horror was never this much fun.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Overrated: I don't know. I've really liked every critically acclaimed game I've played. Scribblenauts was kind of meh though. Maybe it's only the first game that's sort of dull, since adjectives wouldn't happen until Super.
Underrated: If you know me, you will know exactly what I am about to say: Panel de Pon. If you haven't played it yet, do it. (Get a ROM, Pokemon Puzzle League is not the same thing.) You owe it to yourself to do so. It has literally some of the most adorable charater designs I have ever seen, and is a solid puzzler on top of that. It doesn't deserve to languish in obscurity like it has been.
Well that's a bump.
Overrated: Metal Gear Solid 3. Good but not nearly as great as most say.
This topic has gone on for nine pages without a modhammer. I'm... impressed, if nothing else.
OVERRATED: Metal Gear. The entire series just bores me, and it mat be due to Seinfeld, but Splinter Cell and Thief have appealed to me much more.
UNDERRATED: Battle Realms. Great RTS, good concept, only needs better graphics and slightly more depth to become a great RTS a la Age of Empires.
noisivelet naht nuf erom era srorrimMeh, I guess I might give this thread a shot.
- Overrated: Modern Warfare 2. I enjoyed the singleplayer and it has potential to be fun in multiplayer as well, but there's no learning curve whatsoever. You either know how to play or die like a chump over and over again. Also, whenever you pick up a weapon that is seen as noobish, people will get on your case, either verbatim or via chat. Also, 30-feet long knives that turn an Emergency Weapon into a legitimate way of playing - if not the only one.
- Underrated:
- Claw. A very solid platformer that simply isn't well recognized, I think. It's nothing original, but looks decently on the visuals still, has a nice soundtrack and is simply enjoyable plus it has a ton of custom levels available via map editor.
- Heroes Of Might And Magic. It's well-known here, but I just feel like it could use more love in the West. It's a turn-based strategy and is simple enough for anybody to just pick up and play.
- Disciples II. A case similiar to the former, just with different atmosphere and gameplay elements. Turn-based strategies in general need more love.

grah"Overrated" = complaint thread. "Nuclear launch detected."
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
And Half Life 2 also had a massive scrappy level (Ant Lions, Jesus Christ, those fucking Ant Lions), and Half Life literally named a trope about terrible levels after it (Xen Syndrome). I still think Half Life 2>>>>>Halo, but you can't just point to issues with one game while ignoring those in your favorite.
