No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...
I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?
Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

Indeed it does...A second Martial Civil War?
I feel the Void Dragon is at work here somewhere.

Warhammer 40,000, everybody, where as soon as something happens you need to figure out which evil space god was behind it.
(To be fair, between the Lawful Evil champion of humanity and f*** everyone else, the Neutral Evil star vampires who only care about their lunch, and the Chaotic Evil powers of the warp, there's such a variety of them!)
Before I go to bed, here are some rumors on the Starter set and Codices for 8th.
In addition, there will be the standard soft cover core rules booklet and a small campaign book. The campaign book has the stats for all the dudes in the box, plus a series of narrative missions that set up the ground floor for the first real story arc of the new edition.
Codex AoS was very much a test kitchen for what to expect of the “New Warhammer 40k”. AoS had a rocky start, but they learned from their mistakes, and recently even AoS has surpassed 40k in some regards.
The battle tome will become the template for the codex, not the other way around. Each dex will get the special army wide rules, 6-12 relics, 6 warlord traits, and 6 psychic powers, only now it’s written that you can chose to ether select or roll on warlord/psychic charts. It will also contain full rules and points for all the old and new units in a given army, and special rules for things like warbands, campaigns, narrative missions and the like.
Formations are back, but they cost points now, and so are decurons, but they will be a lot more flexible and take cues from their AoS counterparts.
Overview 6th and 7th edition suffered from growing pains and an identity crisis. GW spent a good amount of time and money figuring out what they want 8th edition to really feel like, and are using what they learned in 40k 6th-7th edition and AoS V1.0-1.2 to rebuild 40k from the ground up. They want new players to feel less intimidated by the dense lore and setting, but want to keep returning players invested in the storyline. Black library is going to do a soft reboot for some of the new 40k lore books, with a gimmicky “New Warhammer” type flagship launch to, as I said before, laydown a ground floor for the upcoming 8th edition.
I seriously can't wait for these new rules.
Tomorrow I have the first game of the last 7th ed. expansion league at my FLGS. I'm going up against Skitarii with my Necrons in a 500 pt game using a modified CAD that limits to one Fast Attack and Heavy Support slot and two Elite slots:
- Lord w/Solar Staff, Gauntlet of Fire, and Phase Shifter
- Two squads of Immortals, one w/Gauss and one w/Tesla
- One squad of 9 Scarabs
- Heavy Destroyer.
Good luck with the battle
Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellSo, I have a question, I'm planning on doing a minor conversion of my Chaplain and was wondering this:
Anyone know if there's any Space Marine heads with a goatee that aren't molded to the body like the Finecast Black Templar Sword Brethren? Preferably ones with a bionic eye on the left eye as well.

Armageddon lives up to its name. A name that isn't its original name...
Setting up Vulkan return?

“You can’t be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and embarrassment to others.” -Mark Manson.HOLY SHIT, I NEVER KNEW THAT ARMAGEDDON USED TO BE ULLANOR!
But wow, the Emperor peaced out of the Great Crusade that early?
The Great Crusade was pretty much over when he shifted to researching the Webway, there wasn't much conquering left to do.
I need a new sig.But if it's in Segmentum Solar, he barely commanded the Imperium into most of it. It should have been one of the first things they hit!
... You're assuming that the Great Crusade's force proceeded in a uniform outwards fashion from Earth. It seems reasonable to me to assume that the Emperor deliberately avoided places like Ullanor until he managed to reunite with enough of the Primarchs and bolstered the Imperial forces' manpower, technological edge and morale with a lot of planetary conquests and willing accessions that the prospect of such a heavy battle wouldn't be fraught with the risk of crippling the fledgling Imperium before it had a chance to stand on its feet.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Librarían:because that was spoiled for the beast the mechanicus transported Ullanor to is current location
Also talking about orks, we finally know who wins the Kaurava conflict in soulstorm....and not the imperial guard gits but Gourgutz and is boyz, Kaurava belong to the ORKS!
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Um, no, canonically the Guard won the Kaurava campaign.
Gorgutz didn't win in Kauriva, but he didn't lose either, because he's still alive. As long as he stays popular, he'll always be able to come back for anuvver go.
nope, dawn of war 3 pretty much Tell gorgutz win, the whole "relic said the guard win" was never verified

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Gorgutz had a bunch of good fights and therefore won in Ork terms. Whether he controlled the Kaurava system afterwards is largely irrelevant to the Orks.
We’ve already seen the profiles of our miniatures, so we know that we’ll be hitting on a fixed Ballistic Skill (a bit like you do now) and we’ve also seen a little about how weapons work – multiple damage from powerful weapons, and armour save modifiers, for example. Today, we look at some of the other rules of the phase.
When you select a unit to shoot, much like today, they can all fire their weapons at the enemy. You can’t shoot, however, if you Advanced this turn, or if you fell back from combat. (See our movement article for details on these.)
You also can’t shoot if there is an enemy with 1″ of you. The exception to this rule is pistols. Models with these hand-held firearms can shoot at the closest enemy target in the Shooting phase, even if they themselves are locked in combat! This is going to make characters with pistols incredibly deadly up-close.
When picking a target, you won’t be able to shoot enemies that are in combat with other units, much like the current edition. However, you can fall back from combat in your Movement phase, allowing other units to fire at your opponent at the expense of your own actions this turn. Expect to see cunning generals deploying their armies in waves to take full advantage of this.
Heavy weapons are worth talking about too. These no longer snap fire if you move, and instead they have a flat -1 to hit modifier for moving units. This applies to all models with heavy weapons, vehicles included. There are a few other factors that affect hit rolls too – smoke launchers on a vehicle, for example, have the same effect of -1 to hit.
The last big change we’re going over today is cover. Currently, cover saves give a blanket save to all units, and one that only comes into effect if the shot would otherwise ignore their armour. In the new Warhammer 40,000, cover is a bonus to your armour save. Critically, this ability often only applies to certain types of unit. For example, only Infantry gain the bonus of cover from a crater.
This interaction works quite nicely with the modifiers to armour saves of certain guns, and means that when someone is trying to hide behind a wall or barricade, if your weapon has a high enough armour penetration, you can shoot them through a wall!
There are also a few weapons that ignore this bonus cover to armour effect – such as those wielded by Chaos Noise Marines and a Leman Russ’ nova cannon.

Knowledge is Power, Guard it WellWhile that's all well and good:
Look what GW just put out: Warhammer 40,000: New Heroes for a Dark Imperium
...What's Girlyman up to with these new Space Marines?
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.Making Sigmarines for 40k, clearly.
In all honesty, the trailer makes it seem like he's using them for his Crusade force, as well as refilling losses made to Chapters who suffered recently. So likely Space Wolves, Blood Angels and others.
Seems like it. I imagine it'll work to retake lost ground from everything happening now. I imagine we might hear something about a massive assault to retake Cadia soon.
Possibly. We might be seeing these new marines in the box set with the Death Guard for 8th.
Also, since no one responded because everyone decided to focus on Dawn of War III's canon:
Anyone know if there's any Space Marine heads with a goatee that aren't molded to the body like the Finecast Black Templar Sword Brethren? Preferably ones with a bionic eye on the left eye as well.
Has anyone actually explained why Guilliman is essentially stuck inside his new suit of Powered Armor lest he die from the wounds he suffered from Fulgrim? Like, were the wounds caused by Warp sorcery from Fulgrim's probably Daemonic weapon and thus cannot naturally heal even with the suit's super-tech, only kept at bay for as long as the suit's relevant systems remain in an optimal state of operation?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
Oooh, interesting.
That spoiler bit seems very interesting.
