YMMV: The King of Queens
  • Awesome Music: The show's theme song "Baby All My Life I Will Be Driving Home To You" by Billy Vera and the Beaters.
  • Canon Sue: Carrie in the episode of Doug's leg breaking because of her accidentally pushing him down the stairs and the episode of Carrie feeling insulted at the new Italian restaurant. Whenever she does something wrong and at the last part of the episode is about to right the wrong, Doug fucks up and then the show rewards her for being "Right".
    • Also in the episode with the eye patch guy. She went through the whole episode being rude and snobby about him, while everyone else was uncomfortable with the idea of the guy being out in the cold during Thanksgiving. He fixes little Major (or Kirby's toy), and seems to be OK. Turns out he was a thief.
      • A case of Strawman Has a Point as her reaction in not inviting a complete stranger who happens to be shady looking into the privacy of her own home is understandable.
  • Designated Hero: It can somtimes be hard to root for Carrie, Doug and Arthur who are occasionally exaggerated seinfeldian levels of Jerk Ass.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: While Doug, Deacon, and Danny were usually quite lovable, their treatment of Spence could often get quite bad; they make fun of Spence for being geeky, not very good with women and living with his mother and often act like he's not even their friend.
  • Ear Worm: Doug and Carrie, Doug and Carrie, Doug and Carrie...
    • Doug and Pizza, Doug and Pizza, Doug and Pizza...
  • Fetish Retardant: In-universe, Carrie's pole dancing. It's so bad that Doug tried to stay at work until he's forced to leave, and when he later finally snaps and turns Carrie's music off, the following exchange occurs, implying that watching Carrie's dancing for a prolonged period is apparently A Fate Worse Than Death:
Carrie: Why'd you turn it off?
Doug: It was either that or jump out the window.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: One episode (aired in 1999) featured Doug and Carrie investing Doug's Christmas bonus in a dot-com start-up, then panicking as the stock went up and down. The Tag of the show is the company being shut down because the CEO was accused of fraud. The next year the "dot-com bubble" burst, causing this story to become depressingly plausible.
    • In the pilot, Arthur asks Doug if he's afraid of being replaced by a machine . Now Amazon is planning on having drones deliver packages within half an hour, effectively making the post office obsolete
  • Ho Yay: Arthur helping Spence prepare for the job interview.
    • Doug and Deacon have their share. Especially during the episode where they were trapped inside a truck.
      • Spence and Danny is the poster child of this. To the point that it's even acknowledged in-universe.
  • Tear Jerker: In "Pregnant Pause" Carrie revealing to Doug that she had a miscarriage and then quietly breaking down in tears, made worse by the fact that Doug and Carrie were just starting to get used to the idea of being parents.
