YMMV / My Little Goat

Go To

  • Anvilicious: The animated short does not shy away from the fate that evil predators who prey upon innocent children assuredly deserve.
  • Fridge Brilliance: With Lecon being the bravest surviving goat child and the one who went through the most physical trauma, it's very fitting that she's the one who receives not an animal hood but a red riding hood.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While the short has become popular in Japan since its original release in 2018, it immediately became very popular with Spanish and Portuguese audiences when it was uploaded to Youtube on August 15th, 2020 with a Spanish and French translation alongside an English translation (via Closed Captions). The short also received a Spanish dub on November 27th, 2022.
  • Memetic Badass: Mother Goat has appeared on a lot of Internet fanart depicting her hunting down anyone who would dare hurt little children.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The short opens with Mother Goat cutting open the Big Bad Wolf's stomach and pulling out her children one by one, and they're covered in stomach acid. The scene becomes more tense as she realizes that her eldest child Toruku is missing, and as she looks into the wolf's stomach, we can see bones and part of a hoof, indicating that Toruku has already been digested. Not the most pleasant way to start a story.
    • When Natsuki's father finds Natsuki, at first he seems relieved and hugs his son...but then he pins Natsuki to the floor and starts breathing heavily. When Natsuki tries to refuse him, his father starts growling like an animal, taking Natsuki's shirt in his teeth and shaking him. Natsuki's father rips Natsuki's shirt off, and in the next shot he's turned into a wolf, making his intentions towards his own son very clear. This can be an especially scary scene for anyone who's experienced sexual assault, especially from adult figures they thought they could trust.
    • While the credits for the short is very peaceful and performed on a piano, breathing can be heard echoing throughout the song.
  • Squick:
  • Ugly Cute: While the surviving goat children (except Nono) aren't ugly, being eaten by a wolf has clearly taken its toll on their looks. Their bodies are half mutilated with some missing hooves and horns and half burned off wool, especially Lecon, who's missing most of her fur and lost one of her hooves. However, they still look adorable, and the end of the short shows that their bodies are slowly healing.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Despite the similar title to My Little Pony, having cute stop motion goats, and based on a beloved fairy tale (mainly in Japan), it has a lot of violence (especially towards children), dark themes (incest, child abuse, and pedophilia), and sexual content (portrayed very negatively).
  • The Woobie:
    • Mother Goat since she's still mourning the loss of her firstborn child. She names Natsuki "Toruku" after her deceased son and decides to pick strawberries since they're "his favorite" despite Natsuki barely knowing her. She later saves him from his biological father, giving them back the white woolen coat.
    • The five goat children (Nono managed to not get caught) who survived being digested from the wolf's stomach. Almost getting digested has left all of them with physical and emotional scars. Lecon takes it the hardest, especially when she screams in horror at the sight of her own reflection and breaks down in tears afterwards.
    • Natsuki himself, since it's revealed that he's been a victim of rape. As a result, he's very untrusting of Mother Goat despite being a very kind-hearted and caring mother for the goat kids. Midway through the short, he starts empathizing with the family after giving Lecon his white woolen coat. After Mother Goat tasers Natsuki's father and dumps him into a river she fully wins Natsuki's trust by preventing him from getting raped by his wicked father once again.
