• Anvilicious: In the episode "Foul Ball", it is quite clear they are parodying the Washington Redskins controversy with the Old Town Featherheads. They do this by having anyone supporting the Featherheads being jerks, ignorant hillbillies, or blatantly KKK racist. Then after the Native Americans buy the team they change the name to Stupid White People.
• Awesome Music: The country songs used in the Season 2 and 3 finales are amazing.
• Broken Base: Possibly the most polarizing adult cartoon to ever come out the 2010s before Big Mouth came out. Viewers either call it an addictive, entertaining horror-comedy or a pointlessly violent comedy that tries too hard to be as disgusting and obscene as humanly possible.
• Catharsis Factor:
  • Everything Grandpa does in the Season 3 finale and Season 4 premiere counts.
  • Every time someone suffers a karmic fate (usually by the hand of Mr. Pickles) is absolutely satisfying to watch.
• Critical Dissonance: While users on IMDb gave this series a 7.4, users on TV.com gave it a 4.7.
• Designated Hero: Whether Mr. Pickles is really a good boy or not is up to debate: The staff is on the former side, while the fans are on the latter.
• Draco in Leather Pants: Those who defend Mr. Pickles claim that he only kills people who were ever particularly nasty or evil, and some of those deeds is to protect his owner Tommy. Besides kidnapping countless innocent humans, enslaving and locking them underground by his Satanic throne, some of them going through "Saw"-like trials For the Evulz, killing other people besides those who were evil or don't do anything bad enough to warrant their fates, and threatening innocent animals (except the bear in Episode 1), he's not a good dog.
• Fandom Rivalry:
  • With Alfred's Playhouse, as both its fans and creator have accused this show of ripping it off.
  • Also with Metalocalypse and Superjail!, as fans of both shows blame Mr. Pickles for the cancellations of both shows.
• Fetish Retardant: The show has lots of hypersexualized female characters and sex scenes, which would had been bearable if it wasn't for it crappy, low-budget Flash animation and absolutely hideous character designs.
• Fridge Brilliance:
  • Some might question why Mr. Pickles doesn't kill Stanley's boss. With a wife like his, death would be a blessing.
• Fridge Horror:
  • You know the guy dressed in black who barks and seems to be Mr. Pickles' number 1 servant? It's possible he went insane or got brainwashed. More creeping-inducing is Mr. Pickles treating him like a pet.
  • The Season 2 finale reveals that Steve is actually Grandpa/Henry Gobbleblobber's deceased wife Agnes.
• Growing the Beard:
  • While the show is base-breaking among many, there seems to be a mutual agreement that it gets better later on with Mr. Pickles taking a level in kindness, if only slightly.
  • Season 3 seems to address many of the complaints, having jokes beyond pure shock value and even adding some semblance of character depth.
• Heartwarming Moments:
  • It's heartwarming to think that in an over-the-top violent show about a satanic dog that despite the animosity (to put it lightly) between Mr. Pickles and Grandpa, they both respect that the other care deeply for Tommy.
  • As much as Mr Pickles really likes killing his Asshole Victims, he cares so much about Tommy that he fights back his urge if Tommy's around.
  • Throughout "S.H.O.E.S.", Tommy spends more time paying attention to the titular shoes than to Mr. Pickles and when Tommy is taken prisoner by government agents and calls Mr. Pickles for help, there is a delay that leads Tommy to believe Mr. Pickles doesn't love him anymore because he was neglecting him. Cut to the outside of the base where Mr. Pickles is currently fighting an entire army just to get to Tommy, and when he finally does arrive, Tommy assures Mr. Pickles that he is his best friend, something Mr. Pickles had been wanting to hear the entire episode.
• Misblamed: By contrary belief, the series is not the reason Metalocalypse didn't get renewed for its final season. Much of the reason for the show not being renewed was [adult swim]'s lack of care for the show after the Klok Opera special and Mr. Pickles just came in at the wrong moment at the wrong time.
• Nausea Fuel: Much of the gore in the series, as well as what happens to the female bounty hunter after she dies, where she pees through her left breast and poops through her right breast.
• Questionable Casting: Yes, that is the Brooke Shields (the same one who was known for her racy ^note for the early 1980s Calvin Klein jeans commercials in the early 1980s) as the mom.
• Shock Fatigue: The show has a lot of gross-out and sexual humor such as Tommy (who is a child) having breast implants, as well as Mr. Pickles murdering people quite graphically. While several people consider the show an addictive horror comedy because of this, its detractors tend to hate it for the exact same reasons.
• Squick:
  • Tommy's breast implants in "Tommy's Big Job", and even moreso where it's revealed in "Vegans" that he is actually 6 years old even though he could pass as a 10-year old.
• Tear Jerker: It's rather heartbreaking to see Tommy come home crying after getting beat-up (which was also a little sad to watch) in "Bullies". It makes you just want to jump into your TV and give him a hug and see Mr. Pickles teach the bullies a lesson.
• They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Emily Youcis, as well as many of her fans, have openly expressed an extreme dislike of this show for being less a rip off of Alfred's Playhouse as much as a needlessly gory version of what people might assume her show is. Fans of Mr. Pickles, meanwhile, say that her show is needlessly gory regardless and only popular because of the literal cult-like Creator Worship Youcis receives.
• The Woobie:
  • Mrs. Goodman, who had an abusive mother who told her she couldn't fulfill her dreams because no one would want a woman doctor and because "photography is painting for lazy people", whose father is well meaning but sexist and now seen as senile (though he's right) and was eventually forced to become a housewife, currently lusted after by every male character including a demonic dog that molests her. No wonder she snaps in the Season 2 finale. Season 3 is naturally even less kind to her, revealing that her husband cheated on her with her mother and having her return briefly, giving her the hope that they could reconcile only for her to cruelly mock her before dying.
