YMMV / Let's Go Luna!

Go To

  • Adorkable: Whenever Luna gets nerdy about her favorite things (such as Lizardzilla or Syd and the Sydneys), it's really endearing.
  • Angst? What Angst?: In "Meet the Strongs", Salami pours his heart out to Leo about how his sisters severely bullied him throughout his life, and continue to do so today. Moments later, he makes up with his sisters as if nothing happened. Apparently, this happens all the time. It is clearly a cycle of abuse, since his sisters always go back to tormenting him, but no one bats an eye at this.
  • Anvilicious: Remember in this case that Tropes Are Tools:
    • The show manages to address the topic of eurocentrism and why it's wrong in some episodes. In "Bonjour, Au Revoir, Adios", Senor Fabuloso and the French clown twins (Bonjour and Au Revoir) argue over whether New Orleans is more Spanish or French. They learn that obsessive nationalism isn't good, and that other people shaped New Orleans such as Africans and Native Americans. In "Kick It Good", Andy thinks that Thailand copied volleyball with their sport takraw, but learns that sports from around the world can be similar, but also different and just as good.
    • The show also does a good job talking about trauma and mental health, two topics almost never covered in preschool shows. Many characters have bad mental health as a result of childhood trauma (Salami being bullied by his sisters, Senor Fabuloso's friends abandoning him, not to mention his 10th birthday disaster) or just in general (Leo is fearful of everything, craves approval, and wants things to be the way he likes it). The show, through episodes like "Not Home on the Range", "Volcano Boy", "Meet the Strongs", "Time of Goodbye", and "Gaja's Birthday", show us that it's okay not to be okay, and that your past is not your present or future. It also encourages talking to someone you trust about these issues so they can help you (i.e, Luna).
    • Multiple episodes, such as "Aren't We a Pair?" and "Hip Life", teach us to separate stereotypes from reality, as nonwhite countries like Egypt and Ghana aren't ancient like they're commonly depicted to be in media. Interestingly, both these episodes involve Carmen.
    • "Yankee Doodle Andy" touches on America's dark history of racism and mistreatment of marginalized groups (i.e. women, indigenous peoples, people of color, etc); and while many things have changed for the better, there is still a lot that needs to be done before true equality is achieved.
  • Awesome Art: The series sports some very nice-looking, fluid animation. The backgrounds are also very colorful and detailed, taking inspiration from vintage travel posters.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The theme song is catchy and has beautiful backing music, with instruments from all over the world.
    • "I like playing games! Fast games, fun games!" It has a great message, and Fong is quite a talented singer.
    • "It's the day....of the dead...." Luna's angelic singing and the maraca beat successfully help Carmen overcome her fear.
    • The song that the kids sing whenever Luna arrives. It helps that it's played in every episode.
      Carmen: Luna, come and play.
Leo: Luna's here, what do you say?
      Andy: Luna, bright as day.
All: Show us the world, lead the way!
    • "Escadaria Selaron" is a Brazilian pop-style song that is upbeat and sure to get you dancing.
    • "Something Big" has Luna's beautiful vocals as always, backed by a pleasant steel drum beat.
    • "Everyone Needs" is incredibly heartwarming, and Ryan the Ostrich's vocals certainly help out.
    • "Viva La Pasta" is a funny song about the different types of pasta, styled like a '60s surf rock tune.
    • The lyrics to "Mon Amour" sound like something an angsty teenage girl would write in her diary, but the backing instruments and Honey's vocals make it appealing. Bonus points for the inherent hilarity/cuteness in a little girl singing an angsty song.
    • "Spanish vs. French": Who knew nationalism could be so catchy? The Spanish guitar and French accordion mix beautifully together.
    • "Everything Will Be Irie" from "Everything's Irie" is a great reggae song that will definitely cheer you up, like it did to SeƱor Fabuloso.
    • "Love and Harmony" from the episode of the same name is a beautiful song that not only helps two different bickering pairs restore their relationships, but will also make the listener restore their faith in humanity.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Luna can get pretty crazy when she hears happy music — dancing is her biggest weakness. Yet you can't help but enjoy her surreal dance moves. She's definitely the perfect guardian for Leo, Carmen and Andy.
  • Fandom Rivalry: In 2020-2021, fans of Battle for Dream Island would often vandalize the LGL! wiki, calling it a 'baby show' and getting annoyed at it being a featured wiki on Fandom.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The sheer amount of notable landmarks of the world not seen in the show provides great fan fiction opportunity. All you have to do is conduct good research on the place and stick the characters in where you see fit.
  • Fanon Welding: A good portion of fans believe that it takes place in the same universe as Rocko's Modern Life and Camp Lazlo, since they're all created by Joe Murray. In fact, some wanted a character from either of those shows to appear in the series finale, like how Heffer showed up in the Camp Lazlo finale to expose Scoutmaster Lumpus as a fraud. Unfortunately, it didn't happen.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • With a bit of Fridge Sadness. Luna has been around for billions of years and used to know several famous people of history such as Michelangelo. Since she was very sad when Bessie died, this implies she had to see all of her friends die while she keeps living, and soon the same thing will happen to Andy, Carmen, and Leo.
    • In "The Case of the Missing Cheese", Mia is an anthropomorphic cow who works at a cheese factory. Now, other animals like goats can make milk, but regular cows are shown in a Cutaway Gag where Mia jokes that holey cows result in Emmental cheese. This implies that Mia probably makes cheese from her own milk.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With the fandoms of Ready Jet Go! and Molly of Denali, due to all of them being educational PBS shows that don't talk down to the audience and all have strong characterization, good animation and clever dialogue. All 3 of these shows are thought to have brung about the 'Edutainment Show Renaissance'. This "where y'all sitting at?" meme made by KLRU (the PBS station in Austin, Texas) even shows Jet, Molly and Luna sitting together at lunch.
  • Genius Bonus: The "Love and Harmony" song mentions "turn[ing] a tragedy into a comedy." In Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages, 'comedy' meant play and poems with happy endings (such as The Divine Comedy).
  • Heartwarming Moments: See this page.
  • He Really Can Act: Judy Greer shows us how goofy, fun, and bouncy Luna can be in every episode of the show. Special mention goes to her performance in "Blue Orleans" when she also shows Luna's sensitive emotional side.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Senor Fabuloso not only shows Camp Gay behavior but he's also very close with Mr. Hockbar. Hockbar is his Beleaguered Assistant who, despite being annoyed at Fabuloso's bossiness, genuinely cares about him and will do whatever he asks, even slathering him in marmalade while wearing a fish costume. "The Mystery of the Mask" shows us that Fabuloso met Hockbar during the latter's days as a Khon dancer in Thailand, and explicitly states that he became enamored with him. Hockbar even does a Khon performance for their "friendaversary". Teen and adult viewers will notice that their relationship seems to go beyond friendship.
Senor Fabuloso: Way back when I started my Circo Fabuloso, I was searching for a special act. I became enamored with a unique Khon dancer I found in Thailand, and asked him to join my troupe. He wore that very mask, and that man became my best friend who helps me run my Circo to this very day. Yes, children, that very Khon dancer was none other than, the incomparable Mr. Hockbar!
    • Hockbar and Fabuloso seem to go on a date together to get some sobolo juice in "Muddy Miracle"
    • In "Fabuloso's New Clothes", Fabuloso has no problems with stripping down to just his underwear while with Hockbar.
    • In "A Moon's Trip to Paris", Mr. Hockbar freaks out and sobs over Senor Fabuloso supposedly turning into a chicken. To prevent the other Circo members from finding out, he wants to keep it a secret between the two.
    • In "Everything's Irie," Fabuloso wraps his arm around Hockbar while they both listen to reggae music.
    • At one point in "If a Hamster Could Fly", Jacques accidentally gets between a kissing couple, one man and one woman. Both of them accidentally kiss him, though the man looks pretty pissed afterwards.
  • Moe: Honey the Hamster is a Ridiculously Cute Critter with probably the sweetest voice in existence.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The 14-note flute theme that plays at the end of every episode is very soothing.
  • Nausea Fuel: In "Turkish Delight" Leo makes a disgusting treat. Complete with a Gross-Up Close-Up and "Psycho" Strings.
  • Periphery Demographic: The moment it premiered, the show had garnered a loyal following of teens and adults thanks to being created by Joe Murray, having Judy Greer as part of the cast, clever writing, catchy songs, and fluid animation.
  • Popular with Furries: Owing to the show starring anthropomorphic animals, and cute ones at that, the show is a hit with the furry community.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Despite the show being silly and light-hearted, it depicts bullying in a frighteningly realistic way. In "Meet the Strongs", we learn that Salami Strong's older sisters, Capicola and Pancetta, severely bullied him throughout his childhood, and continue to bully him into adulthood. Beneath his bravado, Salami has low self-esteem because of the bullying. While his sisters apologize at the end of the episode, it's implied that they will start abusing him again, just like how real-life bullies and abusers say that they are sorry, but go back to being abusive. This can hit close to home for anyone who has to deal with abusive family members.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: This show is fun-spirited and can also be funny and heartwarming at the same time. It features adorable characters who travel around the world in each episode to learn about the country and its culture. Luna's singing also proves to be a fun experience, as it is mostly sweet and gentle.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song:
    • Mr. Salami's workout music in "House Music" sounds similar to the Rocky theme song.
    • The song featured in "Robo Kid" sounds like "Harder Better Faster Stronger" by Daft Punk, which was made for an anime movie — Interstella 5555.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Pretty much enforced by the show's premise. Every episode has new characters from around the world, and of course they're never seen again. Season 2 tries to mitigate this by returning to some locations like Delhi, but Gaja was sidelined by Senor Fabuloso in his own birthday episode.
    • Andy was theorized to be from New Orleans, Louisiana because Louisiana has a lot of bayous, which contain frogs. Andy is not from Louisiana and we never saw his hometown in Season 1 for some odd reason.
    • Because the show only got two seasons, we don't get to see any more places that could've been really neat to learn about, like South Korea or Ireland.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Ingrid is from Sweden, but the Circo never went to that country, unfortunately.
  • Toy Ship: Younger fans tend to ship Andy/Carmen or Leo/Carmen.
  • Unfortunate Character Design: Many people have pointed out that Senor Fabuloso's eyes and drooping beak look rather phallic.
  • Viewer Species Confusion: Thanks to Joe Murray's trademark bizarre animal designs, there have been many an argument in the fandom over the species of certain characters, especially on the show's wiki. Plenty of people thought Leo was a dog when he is actually a wombat (not that he looks much like one anyways). There are also debates as to whether Salami Strong is a crocodile, a horse, or a hippo. Mr. Hockbar has been speculated to be everything from a gopher to a turtle to a lizard. As it turns out, he's supposed to be a vole.
