YMMV / Body Blows

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: T-17, due to lacking any sort of biographical information being provided (excluding its false identity as Max) about it, can be subject to this. Does this machine seek to destroy and/or enslave Humanity? Is it acting of its own volition or serving on behalf of some shadowy behind the scenes force? The fact that this series never developed any sort of story line like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and other contemporaries leaves even more ambiguity.
  • Cliché Storm: Naturally, as a series that was based as an Alternate Company Equivalent to Street Fighter (the first Body Blows especially following the basic formula of several people from random countries fighting in an international fighting tournament) after the Amiga port of Street Fighter II was panned by many owners of that brand of computers having similarities with that Capcom owned franchise was to be expected. The sequels especially became rife with cliches when it started copying elements of Mortal Kombat (particularly Body Blows Galactic with the whole premise of humans fighting otherworldly fighters, though doing it in a Sci-Fi manner rather than through mystical means), and to some extent SNK's Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting series (Of whom the brothers Danny and Nik introduced in the first game were plainly based to an extent on the Bogard brothers from the former). You can probably have a drinking game spotting the character archetypes and other elements of this series that were inspired by those other games.
  • Cult Classic: Among some loyalists of the Amiga brand, especially in numerous European countries.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Mike given how humorously different he is to all the other characters in the series being an unassuming white shirted businessman who manages to fight on equal footing and can spin into a tornado to dish out damage.
  • Friendly Fandoms: People who are fans of one of the other Amiga exclusive games will more than likely be fans of the Body Blows series and vice versa.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: This series had quite a following in several European countries and presently retains a cult following in that region. The fact that the Amiga series of computers themselves were also favorites on the continent plays a part in that.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: One magazine, CU Amiga, complained that "Warra, Lazer and Dino are ineffective." By contrast, the character Kai-Ti was accused of being overpowered to the point that she, use their own word, "seems invincible."
  • Sequelitis: A common complaint that is made about Body Blows Galactic. All the characters from the first game aside from Danny and Junior were absent and replaced them with several gimmicky Flat Characters, was lacking in challenge (particularly due to lacking a Final Boss), and failed to implement any sort of innovations to make things fresh and interesting. Averted in regards to Ultimate Body Blows which at the very least brought back the cast from the first game.
  • So Okay, It's Average: An overall consensus among many professional video game reviewers.
