YMMV / Baby Looney Tunes

Go To

  • Adorkable: This incarnation of Sylvester is a shy and nervous Lovable Coward who loves tea parties and is kind to everyone, including Tweety.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Many people on websites like Tumblr have pointed out that this incarnation of Marvin is very similar to an autistic person: he fidgets when uncomfortable, he has trouble communicating with the other characters, he's very intelligent for his age, and he's nonverbal for most of the episode; it's pretty easy for some to see him as autistic, especially actual autistic people. Helping this assumption is that a common way of explaining autism to small children is comparing it to being an outsider from another planet, which Marvin literally is.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Baby Pepe only appeared in two episodes (outside of the music videos), but is possibly the most well-known side baby due to his cuteness.
    • Baby Taz has received a lot of popularity due to getting more character focus and some of the funnier scenes in the series.
    • Baby Sylvester is another well-liked character for his hilarious plots and one-liners.
    • Baby Marvin is very popular with autistic fans, as in his starring episode he shows traits that resonate with them; this is further helped by him having an adorable design.
    • Baby Petunia gets this as the resident Nice Girl.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The show portrays the Looney Tunes characters as friends in contrast to how they're usually portrayed when they're older, even Sylvester and Tweety. The next Looney Tunes show that's aimed at a younger audience, Bugs Bunny Builders, would portray their older selves the same way.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "Duck Reflucks" wouldn't be the last time we get an homage to Duck Amuck with Bugs and Daffy's roles reversed.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • A video featuring clips from the video for "My Bunny Lies Over the Ocean" (one of the aforementioned intermission songs) set to "Egyptian Beach Party" from The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius is somewhat popular on YouTube (having over 800k views), to the point where some even think the "Egyptian Beach Party" song came from Baby Looney Tunes instead.
    • Can't forget Daffy's swearing in "Who Said That?"
Daffy: You little [piece of shit]! You're nothing but a [motherfucker]! I never want to play with this [fucking] game ever again!
  • Older Than They Think:
    • It is easy to forget that Petunia and Melissa were actually created for some of the original short films as well as the merchandise released prior to Baby Looney Tunes, because they are comparatively obscure. The ending credits don't help, when we see the names of the baby characters: they are all credited as "as Baby Bugs", "as Baby Daffy", "as Baby Lola", and so on... all of them, except for Petunia and Melissa, which are simply "as Petunia" and "as Melissa". This can give the false impression that they are Canon Foreigners and that their adult versions don't exist.
    • Some people believe the Baby Looney Tunes brand started with the series itself. There's actually been merchandise with the Baby Looney Tunes brand since the late 1980s.
  • Parody Displacement: As mentioned under Memetic Mutation, the Fan Vid set to "Egyptian Beach Party" is popular enough that some people think that the song came from Baby Looney Tunes rather than The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Those who look past the unwarranted cuteness of the characters see it as an average cartoon with nothing special to show. At least the concept (trying to expand a well-respected franchise's demographic) is understandable.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: It pretty much operates on this trope, although mitigated in the second season to grow up with the demographic.
  • Sweetness Aversion: A Lighter and Softer version of Looney Tunes as adorable little babies who learn life lessons did not go over well with many life-long fans of the franchise's other antics.
  • Tear Jerker: The episode with Marvin the Martian. Nobody except Taz seems to like him, and at one point, everyone abandons him outside. When Taz goes up to him, Marvin gushes a Single Tear, and Taz tells him that he will be friends. Awwww.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Season 2 was received negatively because it came three years after the original first season of the series, had darker animation, spent less time in the nursery, replaced Granny with Floyd, pitched the babies' voices up and overall felt less endearing compared to the first season.
  • Vindicated by History: The series was initially hated by the animation community, as its immediate predecessors (Tiny Toon Adventures, Taz-Mania, and The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries) were considered a collective Tough Act to Follow and its airing on Cartoon Network made it prime bait for accusations that the network was becoming Lighter and Softer (always a controversial topic). Nowadays, however, a lot of people look back on the show fondly for various reasons (not the least being that the next show using the characters became even more controversial).
