The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree is a musical direct-to-video computer-animated film that was released in 2004. It was animated by Canadian animation studio Keyframe Digital Production and produced by Abrams/Gentile Entertainment and Little Light Productions.
It tells the story of the friendship between an 8-year-old boy named Timothy Wiggins and a broken Christmas light he calls "Little Light". When a winter storm suddenly causes the power to go out, it is up to Little Light to save Christmas.
This film provides examples:
- A Boy and His X: The film's plot is basically a friendship between a boy and a broken Christmas light that magically came to life.
- Alliterative Name: Two characters have names that start with the same letter: "Little Light" and "Jonathan Jeepers"
- All of the Other Reindeer: Little Light ended up being bullied by the other lights that were on the same Christmas tree during the "Parade of the Ornaments" scene. Some of the other ornaments, including the Gingerbread man, Sailor, Clown, Horse, and Ballerina are quick to take the bulb's side and are noticeably saddened when he appears to die.
- Animate Inanimate Object: Little Light and the other ornaments are Christmas ornaments that magically came to life.
- Blind Without 'Em: When Mr. Girthmore loses his glasses during the winter storm, he complains that he can't see without them. Thankfully, Mr. Jeepers found his money and his glasses when trying to look for him.
- Bowdlerise: There is a version of this film that removes the song numbers except for the theme song, thus making the film shorter, but it was only released in some international countries.
- Cheerful Child: Timothy, as he is excited about almost everything, much to the annoyance of Melissa, his older sister.
- Clumsy Copyright Censorship: The Salvation Army logo was blanked out due to copyright infringement, except for one shot that they forgot to edit.
- Disappeared Dad: According to the beginning narration, Timothy's dad went to war and never came back home. This is never bought up again.
- Disney Death: The other Christmas lights try to knock out the Littlest Light from the tree, and despite the best efforts from the other ornaments to save him, succeed. The tears from the gingerbread man quickly bring him back to life, much to the delight of the other ornaments.
- Heel–Face Turn: Mr. Girthmore, after he realized that Little Light wasn't useless after he was guided to Timothy's house
- It's All About Me: Mr. Girthmore, prior to his redemption.
- Overly Narrow Superlative: Mrs. Wiggins is Mr. Goodley's favourite doll maker. His only doll maker.
- Random Events Plot: The majority of the plot in this film is basically random events occurring.
- The Singing Mute: For most of the movie, Little Light hasn't said a word, not even to Timothy. Although, later on in the movie, he ends up singing a musical number, complete with a decent singing voice.
- Those Two Guys: Mr. Girthmore and Mr. Jeepers are barely separated, since they're cousins. Same goes to The Colonel and Watley.
- Unexplained Accent: Timothy's mother speaks in a British accent, since she was voiced by a British actress, even though Timothy and Melissa speak in neutral accents like everyone else.
- Villain Song: Believe it or not, Mr. Girthmore has two villain songs!
- Villainy-Free Villain: The only bad thing Girthmore does is throw out Little Light, which he couldn't have known was alive.
- The Voiceless: Most of the ornaments that came to life are entirely devoid of talking or making sound, except for Little Light, who sang his musical number, and the ballerina ornament, who let out a brief cry when she and the other ornaments think that Little Light is dead.
- We Interrupt This Program: While Timothy's mother was listening to music on her radio, it ended up being interrupted by a weather report about a winter storm warning, before it went back to the music.
- What Happened to the Mouse?:
- After the beginning narration, the Maggie dolls (named after Timothy's mother) and Timothy's father are never brought up again.
- The Colonel and Watley also never appeared again after their scene.
