Wolvden is a Virtual Pet sim from the makers of Lioden. Wolvden focuses on breeding and caring for a pack of wolves.

Players begin the game playing as a lone wolf searching for a home and pack. As part of the tutorial, they recruit their first wolf and begin to grow their pack. The complex breeding mechanics, with many markings and colors, are the main feature of the game.

Wolvden opened to the public in October 2020.

Wolvden contains examples of:

  • Alpha and Beta Wolves: You can give the title of "Alpha" to your main wolf and "Beta" to your featured wolf.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Players' wolves can be this, especially with the honeydew base (greenish) or the selene base (blue).
  • Angry Guard Dog: These appear in the Tundra biome as the "Guarding Sled Dogs" enemy.
  • Anti-Hoarding: The rotting mechanic for food. It will go bad ten days after it's obtained. This doesn't apply for other things that logically should be perishable, however, such as herbs.
  • Anti Poop-Socking: Sending out hunting parties, scouts, and tasking your herbalist with things to do all take at least a half hour. Energy for your main wolf regenerates much more slowly than it takes to use. This means the game is most effectively played in short bursts at most every half hour.
  • Betting Mini-Game: You can enter a raffle to win silver cones, or play the slots.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Wolves, bears, and raccoons can talk. Some explore encounters also give the impression that some animals are smarter in this game than in real life, yet still it's perfectly natural for your hunters to kill all manner of deer, opossums, bison, horses, etc. and it's not treated as odd that your lead wolf might kill a bear in battle.
  • Character Customization: You can customize the basic fur color of your wolves, as well as add up to ten markings, and change the color of their eyes, skin, and nose. Also you can decorate them with backgrounds and accessories.
  • Character Level: For every player-owned wolf in the game.
  • Common Tongue: All animals that are able to talk speak the same language.
  • Creature-Breeding Mechanic: Basically the point of the game is to breed cool and interesting-looking wolves.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The mysterious Tala, who teaches the player the basics of the game, is a totally black wolf who seems like a decent character.
  • Death of a Child: Pups have a chance to die at each rollover, and they're more likely to die if born in winter. Additionally, they can get killed by illnesses or birth defects.
  • Fishing Minigame: You can earn silver cones playing one.
  • Hit Points: Wolves don't die when these reach zero, but normal packmates can't do their jobs at 0 health, and the lead wolf can't fight.
  • Justified Tutorial: The tutorial is framed initially as Tala welcoming you to a new land, and then as her helping you get established by forming a pack, learning to craft medicine, etc.
  • Lamarck Was Right: A change in a wolf's appearance or stats can be reflected in their offspring.
  • Microtransactions: The game is free and has no ads, so this is how Lioden Ltd makes their money, by selling the premium currency (gold cones) for real life dollars.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: All the characters are more intelligent than regular animals.
  • Non-Humans Lack Attributes: Loads of naked animals, no genitals to be seen.
  • No Such Thing as Dehydration: Access to fresh water is never an issue. Notable considering that other realities of wolf life, such as feeding, going into heat, pup mortality, and getting sick or injured, are focal points of this game.
  • Patchwork Map: The biome map squeezes quite a few different terrains in.
  • Play Every Day: Oh yes. Since the game operates using real time, you need to utilize that time. Also there are login bonuses.
  • Randomly Generated Quests: The Questing Snake gives you three per day, to collect objects, kill enemies, or go on successful hunts.
  • Relationship Values: Only during the befriending minigame. Depending on what actions you take, as well as the potential new packmate's personality, they will like you more or less.
  • Removable Animal Markings: You can change literally any aspect of a wolf's appearance, color-wise, though there's no acknowledgement of this in-universe.
  • Stock Femur Bone: The Bone art is this.
  • Talking Animal: Every character.
  • Turn-Based Combat: The way your lead wolf fights enemies is a pretty simple version of this.
