Blast From The Past is a fan-web comic based on Star vs. the Forces of Evil by fan-artist MoringMark, and serves as a sequel of sorts to his comic Tom vs. Jannanigans.

Set after the series finale, Star, Marco, Tom, and Janna are having fun in the Underworld when the unexpected arrival of a figure from Tom's past starts to form cracks in his and Janna's relationship. And at the same time, someone in Mewni Creek has been attacking the cheerleaders and draining them of nearly all their blood...

Can be read here.

Blast From The Past contains examples of:

  • Amicable Exes: Avila outwardly seems to be this towards Tom. She isn't.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Three seasons may have mellowed Tom significantly, but the demon is no less dangerous whenever pissed...
  • Character Death: What very nearly happens to Brittney. And Janna, too, if not for Tom's actions.
  • Characterization Marches On: Tom is a lot more invested into maintaining his current relationship and very quickly picks up on his girlfriend's frustrations—a vast improvement from his troubled affair with Star. As a result, what would have lasted almost two seasons in the original series quickly gets resolved within the span of a full episode.
Tom: Janna, I don't get you, like...even more than usual. Tell me what you think. Let's talk, let's work it out, please?
  • Crazy-Prepared: Janna brings a Super Soaker filled with holy water to fend off Avila and her companions. When that doesn't work, she pulls out a UV flashlight (purchased using Marco's $650) and very nearly outright kills Avila with it. Oh, and she's livestreaming the whole thing to tell her friends and the authorities where she is.
  • Dramatic Entrance: Tom's entrance into the fight is a lot later than Janna would have preferred, yet no less awesome—punching straight through the church window and forming a defensive pose in front of his girlfriend.
  • Destructive Romance: Tom quickly dumped Avila in the past after intuitively sensing that any relationship with her would likely end up like this. Unsurprisingly, this is what Avila plans to do to Tom once the two end up together again, as revenge for him dumping her the first time.
Avila: No one breaks up with me. Once I get him back, I'll make his life a living hell.
  • Gold Digger: What Janna wants to avoid becoming with Tom in order to be with him beyond a normal human lifespan. Tom resolves this by agreeing to hand her his souls regularly regardless of whatever becomes of their relationship.
  • Hate Sink: Avila. She's Tom's ex-girlfriend from a relationship after his first break-up with Star that lasted only a week due to her scaring the crap out of him. Not only does she try to sabotage Tom and Janna's relationship, she tries to enact a Honey Trap on Tom solely to make his life a living hell for having the gall to dump her, and her and her friends attacked and hospitalized several humans for their blood, even attempting to drain Brittany dry and not caring doing so would kill her. She then tries to kill Janna after she's exposed, but when Janna decides to spare her in exchange for Avila making her a vampire, Avila just stabs her through the stomach with no remorse, and would have actually killed her had Tom not healed her using an extra soul.
  • Noodle Incident: Tom admits he did his Dramatic Entrance in the wrong church prior to saving Janna. What exactly happened is left entirely to the reader's imagination.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tom's reaction upon seeing Janna and Avila first meet.
Avila: Oh, you must be Janna. I'm Tom's ex!
Janna: (happily) Oh! I'm going to be his ex too if he doesn't start explaining.
    Tom: Nononononono—
  • Out of Focus: Janna and Tom are the main characters of this particular comic, and Star and Marco (the actual protagonists of the series) appear mostly in the background to provide moral support, advice, and backup whenever the situation calls for it. Most of the other residents of Mewni Creek also count as this.
  • Out-Gambitted: Unusually, Avila manages to outmaneuver even the infamously paranoid Janna, putting the latter in a rather questionable light in front of Tom and the rest of Echo Creek.
    • In their first meeting, she privately plants some seeds of doubt into Janna's mind about her long-term prospects with the immortal Tom (Avila's an immortal vampire, mind you), knowing that the insecurities will form a rift between the couple and encourage Janna to pay more attention to her.
    • She then manages to derail Janna's attempt to expose the attacker by leaving behind her bracelet in the home of one of her victims, knowing Janna will find it and trace it back to her. Janna returns it to her with a tracker embedded, but Avila simply removes the bracelet and places it elsewhere to throw the human off her tracks.
    • When Janna, Jackie, and Chloe attempt to catch Avila in the act, she throws them off by having a vampire pose as a potential victim, another vampire attack said "victim," and herself seemingly save said "victim" before running off with Janna in close pursuit.
    • Knowing Janna will eventually catch up to her, she runs towards the party where Tom is celebrating his birthday. From literally everyone's perspective, Janna looks like she's harrassing Avila for simply reappearing in Tom's personal life—severly damaging Janna's public image and her relationship with the demon. As a result, Janna ends up breaking up with Tom, leaving the demon conveniently free to date Avila.
    • Janna gets better, however—after realizing the truth behind the whole incident, she arms herself with vampire-killing weapons and saves Brittney from Avila and her companions. And she's livestreaming the whole thing too, finally publicly exposing Avila as the attacker and ensuring Tom and the authorities will have her arrested.
    • But Avila still manages to almost get the final word, tricking Janna into lowering her guard and stabbing her with a dagger. If not for Tom, Janna would have very likely died a rather gruesome death at Avila's hands.
  • Poor Communication Kills: While no one is actually killed (permanently, anyway), Tom and Janna's relationship suffers as a result of the latter's lack of willingness to communicate her issues towards what her long-term relationship with Tom will entail alongside the rather dubious circumstances of Avila's return. Tom does try his best to figure out what's happening, though, and eventually forces Janna to come clean.
    • Discussed by Jackie and Chloe when Janna voices her issues with them. As Jackie points out, ignoring Tom's request to leave Avila alone isn't either going to help matters or be beneficial for Janna's relationship with Tom. And as it turns out, it doesn't.
  • Power-Up: With a dying Janna to protect, Tom saves himself and her from being impaled by an organ pipe by transforming into a winged beast, promptly sending Avila flying out of the building.
  • Properly Paranoid: Subverted at first glance; after Avila publicly appears to be actually helping stop the attacks, Janna's protests to the contrary start to seem less about finding the culprit and more of jealousy towards the former. Star and Marco wince in the background as Janna's rants (in Tom's birthday party, no less) only serve to humiliate herself further in front of everyone. As it turns out, however...
    • Tom flat out admits that Avila's return very likely means bad news, but asks Janna to leave her alone for the time being. She repeatedly ignores him.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Furious over Janna's shenanigans getting in the way of her revenge, Avila proceeds to trick her into getting stabbed and very nearly finishes her off. Mind you, the entire turn of events is being livestreamed in front of Tom and the rest of Echo Creek—suffice it to say, the human's untimely demise at her hands would very likely derail whatever unlikely chance Avila had even at that point of rekindling her relationship with Tom. Thankfully, Tom finally arrives and intervenes before anything else can happen.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Upon first meeting Avila, Star very quickly proceeds to haul Marco out of the vampire's sight. They play only a minimal role for the rest of the plot.
    Star: Back off, Avila.
Avila: Relax, I'm not interested in dating foods.
    • Avila's fellow vampires flee after witnessing Janna's wrath later on, realizing she has virtually no qualms over killing every single one of them.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: Zigzagged. Tom arrives only after Janna has already been stabbed and mortally wounded by Avila. No matter—he resurrects her by giving her one of his souls.
    • Star, Marco, and the authorities arrive shortly after Tom has already dealt with Avila. Proceeding to arrest her for the attacks, the former smash their way into the church only to find Tom's already left with Janna in tow.
  • Touched by Vorlons: As Dave explains, Tom could theoretically make Janna immortal by giving her some of his souls from time to time. This, however, would make Janna reliant on Tom for surviving beyond the normal human threshold—something she doesn't exactly want to base their entire relationship upon in the long run.
Tom: Why did you want to become a vampire all of a sudden? Just so you could live forever? This is just plain dumb—
Janna: Because I wanted to be your equal! So I could be sure that I actually like to be your lifelong partner...and I wasn't doing just for the immortal perk. I would scam anyone to live forever—I just...can't do that to you.
    • Alongside leaving Tom alone, Janna tries this with Avila in return for sparing her life. Avila stabs her instead.
