Moses Primm, better known by his channel name, "Primm's Hood Cinema", is an American YouTuber who specializes in summarizing and critiquing hood movies, as the name implies, though his content occasionally branches out to all types of African-American media. He is known for his quick recaps, laid-back commentary, and summaries of hood films that he tends to interject with snarky comments and lampshading of the ridiculous nature of certain plots.

Primm's Hood Cinema contains examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Narration in hood films. Menace II Society was the Trope Codifier and has been abused in many following films in the genre, to Primm's irritation.
  • Buffy Speak: Does this a lot, with hilarious R-rated effect:
(describing a character in Above The Rim) This recruiter all weird-looking, right? I don't know what it is. Thanos-face-ass boy. Maybe it's the soft-ass afro. Cosby Show-ass afro. This shit is hella fluffy, my nigga, how'd you do that? I kinda fuck with it.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Goes for profane laughs and lampshades often, and sometimes admits he's high as a kite in his recap, but also makes astute critiques about the shows and movies he's recapping, such as the white-washing of the material in Dangerous Minds to make it more palatable for general audiences (the fictional Miss Johnson using Bob Dylan lyrics to get her black and Latin students into poetry; the real Miss Johnson used rap lyics).
  • Captain Obvious: Played for Laughs in his review of All Eyez on Me.
Biggie Smalls in the movie, he not the real Biggie Smalls, though.
  • Covert Pervert: He makes the occasional remark about how attractive a female character (or their actress) is.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While his videos are mostly summaries of the films, he'll sometimes stop to comment on the nature of the films with a witty remark or acknowledging the fallacies in the plot.
  • Halloween Episode: He'll sometimes review horror films with predominantly African-American casts and/or hood settings.
  • Lampshade Hanging: This is his forte. He will not waste an opportunity to call out a stupid decision made by a character or straight-up bad writing.
  • One of Us: He's a fan of certain other famous film reviewers on YouTube, such as YourMovieSucks.org, and peppers his videos with video game references and sound effects.
  • No OSHA Compliance: In Above The Rim, the lead characters have a court on a rooftop that is plagued with hazards, which leads to a character actually falling off the roof to his death at the start of the movie. Primm has many questions.
Why isn't there a gate or some boards or something here? This is not a good place to hoop! I'm surprised more people don't die up here! This shit's like a final boss level! Like, what if the ball fly off this bitch and crack somebody in the head? That could kill them! What if you try to save the ball and you can't stop yourself in time? You dead! What if you fall through this big-ass skylight greenhouse shit right here?! You fucking dead!
  • N-Word Privileges: Often. Discussed in earnest while critiquing Four Brothers where Primm isn't sure what to make of Mark Wahlberg calling a black character a "house nigger" in a movie helmed by black filmmaker John Singleton.
Primm: Ohh, all right, I don't like that. Um, I mean...if John Singleton is cool with it, it's his movie. Still, though, if you grew up with black brothers, you should know better. That's like the number one rule of black people, what's wrong with you?
  • Running Gag:
    • Referring to Tyrese Gibson as "Jody" in any movie he's in.
    • "He a good leader" for Morgan Freeman's Joe Clark in Lean on Me when he does something psychotic that's supposed to whip the students into learning, drug-free shape.
    • Crowning notable black character actors as "Black All-Stars".
    • Playing a clip of Taraji P. Henson in Baby Boy saying "I ain't even mad at you 'cause I already knew that" when he guesses (correctly) that a tone-deaf "hood" movie making broad assumptions and stereotypes of how people of color act and talk was written by a white male.
    • His deadpan refrain of "Sad hood movie" after a very dramatic moment.
  • Self-Deprecation: Primm makes fun of himself just as much as he makes fun of the films:
    • On the questionable editing in All Eyez on Me
      Who edited this shit, me?
    • When making fun of the three Greek Chorus characters in Do the Right Thing:
You're not even contributing, bro, you just get fucked up all day and do commentary on hood shit—oh no, that's what I do!
  • Shared Universe: Played for Laughs. Tying into the Running Gag above, he implies that all movies that Tyrese Gibson stars in are part of an extended Baby Boy universe.
  • Vocal Evolution: His first videos had him speak in a quieter, monotone voice, to great humorous effect when mocking a shoddy film or scene. His more recent videos of which have a higher production value has him speak with a more expressive voice.
