Tanabata Manga contains the following tropes:

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Tanao's wife is a gambling addict who physically abuses her own son and forces him to shoplift. When Tanao finds out, he immediately divorces her and she eventually gets arrested for her crime.
    • Atsumu's mother locks him on the balcony in the middle of night so she can have an affair with her lover named Masao. Fortunately, a neighbor informed Tanabata about Atsumu, causing him to divorce his wife immediately for neglecting his son to have an affair.
  • At Least I Admit It: In this story, after Tanao and Yumi get married, she confesses to him that she was cheating on him and she already broke up with her lover the day before, prompting him to divorce her because he can't trust her anymore.
  • Bad Boss: MC's company is full of bad bosses, including the CEO, they force the MC to do work overtime without pay and also bully him to the point he had to be hospitalized.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing:
    • Ryuji Kuraki appears to be a nice guy to his fiancée Lili; however, he only wants to marry her because of her family's money. Whenever Lili wasn't around, Ryuji abuses her daughter Mimi because he hates children and he also turns out to have a lover behind Lili's back.
    • Tanao's wife appears to be a loving wife and mother; however, she turns out to be addicted to gambling and even physically abuses and forces her son to shoplift.
  • Bullying the Disabled: Nanako's mother-in-law bullies her for being diagnosed with ADHD by treating her as a slave. Not only that, Takashi also becomes abusive towards Nanako due to her disability.
  • The Casanova: Tanao is a womanizer who likes to sleep with women and leave after he's done with them. Tanao's streak doesn't last after being rejected and ridiculed by FMC for his pathetic attempt to seduce her.
  • Cool Uncle: Natsu's aunt is one of the family members that Natsu looked up to, they later work together to expose Natsu's mother and sister Rie to their extended families for mistreating Natsu.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After being abused by her husband, this woman responds by ruining all of his belongings that he values.
  • Domestic Abuse: This man was a kind husband to his wife until he finds out that their son has asthma, causing him to change his attitude towards her. He later abuses her for small mistakes and also rapes her when he comes home drunk.
  • Gold Digger:
    • Yomeko stole Tanao's savings to buy expensive stuff, it is also revealed that the money Yomeko stole from Tanao was also given to her lover, causing Tanao to divorce her and sue the lover for damages.
    • Ryuji Kuraki is a male example, he only gets together with Lili to get her family's money and dump her after several months of their marriage. His plans are foiled when Mimi turns out to have used her stuffed rabbit to record the conversation of him and his lover, which leads to the lovebirds' arrest for attempting a marriage fraud.
    • Tanako's boyfriend only dates her for her money and spends them for himself and his lover, Ako.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Tanako saved her niece Ako from being hit by a car; however, she ended up losing the use of her legs. Later, it is implied that she will be able to walk again through a rehab.
  • Humiliation Conga:
    • This woman gets divorced by her husband for trying to steal Shinya's bag and trying to frame him, in addition, she loses the custody of her son and is also forced to drop her rich lifestyle for a poor one.
    • After Yomeko got divorced by Tanao for cheating on him, she is forced to return with her parents to the countryside. Yomeko's lover Ayo is also sued by Tanao for damages for his affair with Yomeko, causing him to lose everything, including his marriage. Ako turns out to have a relationship with Ayo as well, causing her to get sued by Tanao and Ayo's wife as well.
    • After being rejected and ridiculed by FMC for supposedly having abnormal sperm after trying to seduce her, Tanao is hit by rumors about his supposed abnormal sperm in his university, everyone including his friends also start ignoring him, forcing him to become a shut-in. However, he later starts believing himself to be infertile from the same rumor, causing him to sleep with several women again, only to find out that one of them was pregnant, revealing that he was fertile the entire time. Tanao refuses to acknowledge the child was his, the woman's father beats him up and forces him to sign the marriage certificate. Tanao is forced to drop out of college and work for a construction company owned by his now-wife's relative.
    • Momo ends up in a huge debt due to her bad spending habits and lots of loans, causing her to beg her sister Suzu for money; however, she finds out that Suzu lives overseas. Her parents also disappear when they couldn't pay her debts, forcing her to work at a brothel and pay off her debts with her body.
    • After being manipulated into confessing what she did to Rikako, the mother-in-law is forced to pay compensation and treatment fees to Rikako, and her favorite son also cuts ties with her because he wanted to remain married with Rikako. The old hag gradually loses her friends as well, causing her to get older very quick, and she also caught a cold and was unable to move. In the end, she is forced to live in a facility where the service is horrible and develops dementia as well, reduced to quietly mumbling her son's name.
    • Takashi expresses his love for Mami after he was exposed cheating on Watashi with her; however, Mami responds by breaking up with him, he later begs her to reconsider, but she isn't having any of it. Moreover, the evidence of his affair was sent to his workplace, causing him to get fired from his job, and his parents also cut all ties with him. After both Mami and his parents abandoned him, Takashi begs Watashi to give him another chance, but she decides to call the police on him.
    • Tomoki's stepmother tries to take the repaired house for herself and biological son Koichi by kicking her stepson Tomoki and his wife Momoko out, despite giving it to them earlier. Unfortunately for her, the couple decides to revert all of the changes on the house to return it to its original condition. The stuck-up woman decides to fix the house by herself; however, she ends up struggling with money. Furthermore, the house ends up getting damaged by several natural disasters, but she no longer has any money to have it repaired. In the end, she is forced to live in a house covered in mold.
    • Takashi and his mother end up getting ostracized by everyone in town for abusing Nanako and causing her baby to die. The duo perceives her misery as a victory at first; however, everything changes when Takashi's mother was killed in a car accident. After that, people start leaving Takashi's farm one by one, forcing him to hire new people, but nobody is interested in joining, not even part-time workers. Because nobody wanted to join to work at his farm, Takashi is forced to do the job himself without any skills, and the crops start dying. Moreover, Takashi is in huge debts and he also loses both his farm and house, causing him to become a homeless.
    • The highschool boy's admission to a prestigious university was rescinded after Tanako reported him to his school for insulting and pushing her into the pool just because she was pregnant. Furthermore, he is suspended from school for a year, and people at his school, especially the female students, called him out for his actions, causing him to become a shut-in. The boy's father also blames his mother for causing his college admission to get rescinded by trying to cover the incident up, and they start living seperately.
  • Inheritance Backlash: Jiro and his mother expect a lot of inheritance after his father passed away, but they never even helped with his funeral. However, the lawyer says that he owned a land underneath his company, but it got mortgaged so he could take a loan for his company, and the savings were already spent by Jiro's mother before he passed away. When Jiro's mother asks about the insurance money, the lawyer reveals that her husband cancelled all of his policies a few months ago, so he could pay Jiro's ex-wife for damages, leaving the duo with nothing.
  • May–December Romance:
    • Saki finds out that her boyfriend Tomoya is also dating her mother, Noriko. When Saki tries to warn Noriko about Tomoya's two-timing, she brushes it off and keeps her relationship with him ongoing. This causes Saki to expose the couple at their wedding.
    • OP's mother, who is 50-year old, is cheating on OP's father with a 29-year old man. When OP's mother is confronted by her husband and children for her affair, she says that she met "the man of her dreams", just because she hated working as a housewife. Years later, OP's mother comes back and begs OP's father to let her back into the family again after she was dumped by her "man of her dreams".
  • Momma's Boy: Jiro is obsessed with his mother despite being an adult, he also refuses to take care of himself because his mother does everything for him. Moreover, he forces his wife to overwork despite knowing that she's pregnant.
  • No Name Given: Several stories do not give the characters names, making them unnamed.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife:
    • A housewife uses her son to steal Shinya's bag which contains a lot of his belongings, she also tries to frame him that he was the one who stole the bag. Fortunately, Shinya is able to prove the ownership of his bag and belongings, causing the obnoxious woman's husband to divorce her.
    • Doromi and the other moms used Nanako's water and power without her permission causing the bills to go up. Eventually they were arrested and sued by Nanako. Doromi was too proud to apologize to Nanako and tried to get her to withdraw the charges but she was unsuccessful and her husband divorced her.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws:
    • Nanako's mother-in-law hates Nanako for "stealing" her son from her. The old hag eventually crosses the line by kicking Nanako and her daughter out of her house in the middle of winter and threatening her to get a divorce to be let in again. The incident causes Nanako's parents to call the mother-in-law out for her actions and her son also cuts ties with his entire family.
    • Yuki and Rikako's mother-in-law dislikes both of them for marrying her sons, but she harasses the latter more because her harassment didn't work on the former. One day, the stuck-up woman tries to teach a pregnant Rikako how to cook, but when she was forced by her to pick a hot pot, causing her to trip because of the oil splashing on her chest and have a miscarriage as the result, but the old hag refuses to acknowledge that it was her fault for causing the miscarriage in the first place. Infuriated by the old hag's actions, the daughter-in-law duo hatch a revenge plan on her by manipulating her into thinking her birthday cake was poisoned and forcing her to confess why she hated Rikako.
    • Nanako's mother-in-law hates her for being diagnosed with ADHD and treats her like a slave. Not only that, Takashi also bullies Nanako and sides with his mother. The mother and son's abuse eventually causes Nanako's baby to die in childbirth. After the truth is out, they end up getting ostracized by people.
  • Papa Wolf: Tanako's father orders his men to scare Tanako's boyfriend and his lover for taking advantage of her.
  • Parental Neglect: Tanako's sister-in-law neglects her daughter and tells Tanako to take care of her so she can have an affair. Her husband ends up divorcing her for her affair and neglect.
  • Parking Payback:
    • Miyuki finds her parking space being occupied by a car in the parking lot, she later decides to inform the landlord about the car, leading him to call a tow truck to have it towed. However, the woman who owns the car returns to the parking lot and starts kicking Miyuki's car out of anger and tries to steal her belongings as well, causing her to be arrested.
    • MC and his brother find a car parked at their fields, the occupants are a couple of delinquents who saw the spot as a free parking space and a littering area. When MC tried to stop the couple by putting a sign on the car's windshield, they ignored it and threw more garbage, angering MC and his brother. MC confronts the delinquent couple when their car is present; however, the couple refuses to stop and the girlfriend threatens to sue him for a scratch on the car. MC's brother resorts to digging the spot where the car is usually parked and fill the hole with gravel and stones to give the delinquent couple a lesson. The neighbors also chew them out for their actions and refuse to help them to get their car out of the hole, forcing the couple to call a tow truck and embarassing themselves in the process.
  • Refuse to Rescue the Disliked: Tanao refuses to treat his former bully's fall injury for bullying him and Nanako back in the middle school and refusing to apologize to them. In the end, the bully ends up being wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Girl B tells Tanako that she slept with Tanako's husband and shows her the photo of them together to spite her. Unfortunately for B, the man isn't actually Tanako's husband, but his twin brother, since he has a birthmark on the back of his neck. It is also revealed that B lied about sleeping with the brother and stole his wallet when she jumped onto him, causing her to get arrested.
  • Rich Bitch: Kikuko looks down on Mariko just because she works part-time as a janitor, she later crosses the line by manipulating Mariko and her daughter into leaving the bus by lying to her about the departure schedule of said bus.
  • Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up:
    • Girl B continues to look down on Tanako for being poor years after they graduated from school and even tries to spread bad rumors about Tanako; fortunately, everyone ignores B and sides with Tanako.
    • Tanao's bully beats him to pulp for being the center of the attention at their middle school reunion. However, the incident fuels Tanao's hatred for the bully and it ends up with him refusing to treat his fall injury when he had a work accident, causing him to become wheelchair-bound.
  • Secret Other Family: Tanabata has been cheating on his wife with a foreigner who has a son. When his daughter caught them, Tanabata disappeared with them, leaving his other family behind. He was dumped because he couldn't give all his assets to his affair partner's son.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Ako fell in love with the MC and had been stalking him since college. She broke into his house repeatedly. MC however reported her to the cops, got a restraining order against her and moved far away so she can't find him.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: A pair of fathers and sons force their spouses to do chores around the house. The son eventually crosses the line by forcing his 5-year old daughter Yuki to pick up the laundry in the middle of rain. One day, the son forces his daughter Yuki to make tea in front of a company president and threatens to hit her if she doesn't do what he said, causing the president to call him and his father out. Said president also terminates his contract with their company and their spouses also divorce them for their trouble.
  • The Un-Favourite:
    • Natsu was treated unfavorably by her mother and sister Rie for having a similar appearance to her aunt, whom her mother disliked. Natsu's mother tells Natsu to not come to Rie's wedding and she even says that she only has one daughter. This causes Natsu and her aunt to expose the mother-and-daughter duo by ratting them out to the rest of their families; the groom eventually finds out about Natsu's mother's lies, causing the wedding to be cancelled.
    • Suzu was treated unfavorably by her parents because she inherited their bad parts, causing them to adore her twin sister Momo instead. They also don't want to spend any money on Suzu and defend Momo after stealing Suzu's college money. Suzu's father crosses the line by attempting to drag her into prostitution if she really wants to go to college. Suzu eventually cuts her ties with them to study and work by herself. They later crash Suzu's wedding party to steal Suzu's husband for Momo; however, they immediately get kicked out for their obnoxiousness.
  • Threat Backfire: Yomeko threatens to divorce Tanao if he refuses to give her money to buy expensive stuff. Unfortunately for her, Tanao already submitted the papers because he found out that she was cheating on him with another man.
  • Threatening to Cut Ties: Tanao's wife Yomoko is a selfish womanchild who threatens to divorce Tanao if he doesn't let her have her way, even going so far as to leave signed divorce papers on the table. A few days later, when Yomoko threatens him again, he reveals that he submitted the papers, much to her shock.
  • Vandalism Backfire: This woman stole the camera that OP left on her desk after she refused to let her borrow it, the thief later returns the camera a few days later; however, it is broken with a huge scratch on the lens and refuses to start up. When the OP confronts the thieving woman about it, she denies stealing the camera and blames OP for leaving it on her desk; however, the camera actually belongs to the section chief and its price is also expensive, which is close to $10,000. It's revealed the camera also stores numerous evidences of the thieving woman's affair with another manager, forcing her to pay for a replacement camera, fired and put behind bars.
  • Wicked Stepmother: Tomoki's stepmother only cares about her biological son Koichi. One day, she gives Tomoki an old, derelict house which was part of the inheritance from her late parents. However, she tries to retake the house for herself and Koichi after Tomoki and his wife Momoko repaired it. Infuriated by the stepmother's behavior, the couple decides to revert the house to its original condition.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Momo slaps a young boy in the face after he lectured her to be not mean to other people after trying to steal Suzu's husband; this results in her and her parents being kicked out by the husband's family.
  • Yakuza: Tanako calls her yakuza biological father to teach her ex-boyfriend and his lover a lesson for cheating on her and taking advantage of her money, respectively.
  • You Are Fat:
    • A highschool boy insults a pregnant Tanako by calling her fat. The bastard eventually crosses the line by pushing her into the pool just because she glared at him.
    • Tanao looks down on his wife Nanako by calling her fat because she gained weight during her pregnancy and this is also one of his excuses to cheat on her with another woman.
