Welcome to Smash Bracket!

Smash Bracket consist of a team of animators creating one vs. one fights between the cast fighters of the Super Smash Bros. series. Each video will pit one fighter against another in a massive tournament, and in their words, "to discover who is canonically the most powerful character in all of Super Smash Bros".

The Channel trailer here.

All spoilers to the fights will be unmarked. You have been warned.

  • Affably Evil: Ganondorf is tamed over a pie and casually chats with Doom Slayer while eating it.
  • Ambiguous Ending: Robin vs Rosalina is very clear about who wins, but the ending cuts off before we learn if the winner went for a lethal kill or if the loser surrendered when they were finally outmatched.
  • Art-Shifted Sequel: Not sequels per se, but every episode has a distinct art style that makes all of them unique in their own right.
  • Composite Character: Despite being based on the Smash roster, the combatants' feats are based on all their non-Smash appearances. This results in them using power-ups, items, and abilities never seen in Smash.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Lucina vs R.O.B. Since R.O.B. is just his real life toy, he naturally stands no chance and flops over helplessly from a single hit.
    • Alex vs. Villager is also pretty one sided, since Alex's stats pretty much outclassed Villager's in every way and Alex is actually adept in combat.
    • Wii Fit Trainer vs. Mr. Game and Watch is incredibly one sided, considering it's a yoga instructor vs. what could best be described as a shapeshifting cartoon thing.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: In Isabelle vs Ganondorf, Ganondorf clearly defeats Isabelle, but who knew he would have a love of pie? Isabelle surrenders with no bloodshed, and gladly accepts Ganondorf's invitation for a small picnic (even Doomguy is there!).
    • The conclusion reveals this was because of Ganondorf’s weakness of getting distracted mundane objects.
  • Duel to the Death: Often Averted. The rules of the series note that the fights can end without one of the fighters being killed, either through being knocked out or yielding.
  • Joke Character:
    • R.O.B. fits the bill from his “fight” with Lucina. Due to the rules of the show, he's literally just a toy.
    • Wii Fit Trainer is, quite simply, just a yoga instructor. It says a lot that their battle with Mr. Game and Watch has them losing with virtually no deliberate fighting intent from the latter.
  • Large and in Charge: King Dedede and King K. Rool both fit the bill.
  • Mama Bear: When Robin starts killing her Lumas to absorb their life energy, Rosalina gets pissed.
  • No Kill like Overkill: Wario blows up the tombstone of an already very dead “Lukas” for no reason.
  • No-Sell: Wario Man gets lucky on a PK Flash.
  • Running Gag: Kirby getting hurt or killed in battles between other characters.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In the Sonic vs. Fox McCloud rematch, Sonic gives a monologue at the beginning of his breakdown that is a dead-ringer for Peter Parker's intro monologue from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
    • At one point in Olimar vs. Piranha Plant fight, Olimar and various Pikmin do a circular panning Team Shot parodying the iconic shot from The Avengers (2012), even including part of the Avenger's theme.
  • Skewed Priorities: The Hunter cares more about his gun then the avalanche.
  • Slapstick: Pretty much the entirety of Mr. Game and Watch vs Wii Fit Trainer is a series of comedic abuse towards the female trainer due to Game and Watch's unpredictable abilities. She gets smacked with juggling balls, rocketed into the air, and knocked out by slipping on oil.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: You'd expect Ganondorf vs Isabelle to be a Curb-Stomp Battle, and it is for the most part, with Isabelle simply running for dear life. In the end though, she simply surrenders and manages to pacify him with a pie, then has a picnic with him and Doom Slayer.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Kirby frequently appears on the sidelines of other battles and is hurt or killed as a result. Ironically, he wins his own fight against Jigglypuff.
