WMG / The Legend of Vox Machina

Go To

The sixth person on Percys ingraved kill-list is....
  • Percy himself.
    • This might be averted, as Taliesin Jaffe has stated that his idea for the list on the gun when someone asked about it for the RP that the blank spot is meant to represent that after he killed those on his list, more names would appear of people to kill, most likely a part of his Deal with the Devil.
  • As revealed in episode 10, it's his sister Cassandra, just like in the original stream. Moreover, Taliesin's idea is incorporated wholesale, with Vox Machina now appearing on the gun in place of the Briarwood crew once VM resists Orthax even a little; the obvious implication is that, if following Orthax, Percy would never remove names from the pepperbox permanently.

Vex'ahlia had more than one excuse to be jealous of Keyleth
While we as an audience know that Vex resented Keyleth because of Vax'ildan's blossoming romance for KiKi and Vex being afraid of that romance fracturing her sibling bond with Vax, we also see subtle hints that Vex had other resentments beyond the obviously stated.

Pike is somehow possessed by some outside entity
It's already been noted that Pike is very out-of-character in this, but it goes deeper than that. In a show that bills itself as being run specifically by a cast of professional voice actors, that is clearly not Pike's voice! For whatever reason, Ashley is voicing her as Gale, not as Pike.

Why? Because it's not Pike; there's something else in her head messing with her. Expect this to become a plot point further on in the season.

  • Jossed. No plot point relating to this was in the season. Pike's plot point was about learning that she could still be a follower of the Everlight despite her crass behavior, not an entity messing with her head.

Percy's full name reveal is going to be a My Name Is Inigo Montoya moment.
His name contains references to both of his parents' - the patronymic Fredrickstein for Lord Frederick de Rolo, and Klossowski was Lady Johanna de Rolo's maiden name. His murdered siblings Julius, Vesper, Oliver, Whitney, and Ludwig are represented in his family name. His surviving sister Cassandra's name mostly overlaps with his ("von Musel Klossowski de Rolo"), in addition to having "Johanna". He might also recite the dead's names in an And This Is for... manner while fighting the Briarwoods or any of their cronies. Thus, Percy and Cassandra would be representing the entirety of their family while striking down their enemies.
  • Partially confirmed, so far. In order to rally the survivors against the army of undead, he announces himself as "Lord Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo the Third" as he takes his place as the rightful de Rolo heir and head of La Résistance and vows vengeance for Archie, the de Rolos, and Whitestone.

The Briarwoods didn't mention Cassandra's survival, or even allude to it, because Cassandra is a Briarwood now.
In the original, Cassandra flat out stated that she's a Briarwood while under their influence (Mind Manipulation, More than Mind Control, Face–Heel Turn, or all of the above). So, Delilah referring to Percy as "the pup who survived" is because to her, he is the last de Rolo.

Season 2 will be the Chroma Conclave arc and re-integrate the Kraghammer and Vasselheim story arcs.
Since the scope and budget of the show have expanded well beyond the original Kickstarter goals, it would make sense that not only would they give us the Chroma Conclave for a second season, but that it would make use of edited-down versions of the story arcs they skipped over to get right to the Briarwoods.

  • Allura is much colder to Vox Machina in the animated series than in the original game, so sending them out to find and rescue Kima would not only help to endear them to her, but would also present some chances to hint at the relationship between Allura and Kima. Kraghammer could also be where Kaylie is introduced.
    • Jossed, as Allura and Kima are shown to have escaped the destruction of Emon together.

  • After the Conclave attacks, being sent to Vasselheim for aid would be a logical next step. That could be where they learn about the Vestiges and led to the Slayer's Take to learn more, with the episodes where they split the party and Zahra and Kashaw are introduced as a means of gaining the Take's trust to meet Osysa.
    • Essentially confirmed. Vox Machina seek help in Vasselheim in episode 2, and resort to meeting the Slayer's Take (including Kashaw and Zahra) after getting nowhere with Highbearer Vord. The series works in a nod to how VM got involved with the Take in-stream by establishing that Vex and Vax have a prior adversarial acquaintance with Zahra and the Slayer's Take due to poaching a hydra from them, similar to Vox Machina kill-stealing a hydra that was the Take's quarry in the stream.

  • From there it would be an abbreviated version of the rest of the Conclave arc, with each episode devoted to either acquiring a Vestige or killing a member of the Conclave, the season ending with Scanlan's breakdown and leaving the party.

General Krieg is still alive.
In the Wiki for the original campaign, Krieg was a real, Human person who Brimscythe killed and replaced. In the series, Krieg will be discovered, still alive. Brimscythe was keeping him around, for information about how to impersonate Krieg. And also just to torment him for fun. Vox Machina will return from Whitestone, only to find Krieg alive in the throne room, and they will go on the attack. Only to learn that it is the real Krieg, and he has informed Uriel that Brimscythe was not working alone. At which point Keyleth will, embarrassingly, remember the gem and the eye.
  • This will set up a mini-arc version of the Kraghammer/Underdark quest for the start of season 2; after learning from Krieg about Brimscythe's allies, Uriel sent Kiva to investigate strange happenings under Kraghammer, and now they need Vox Machina to find her.
  • More David Tennant.

Pike will receive the Plate of the Dawnmartyr directly from the Everlight, setting up a plot hook for the Vestiges in Season 2

One of the advantages of this animated retelling is that Pike gets to participate more with the events of the plot now that her player doesn't have availability issues, so why would they then create a subplot to split her off from the party anyway? Because she didn't lose her connection to the Everlight due to Delilah's attack, it's actually a secret test of her faith and passing it will demonstrate her as the Everlight's champion, earning her the Plate of the Dawnmartyr; there's a brief moment in the Red Band trailer where Pike is having a Beam-O-War with Delilah at the Ziggurat and has a more noticeably armored appearance, indicating that when she returns to the party she'll be bringing something back with her.

This will then serve as the introduction for Vestiges in Season 2, as someone with more historical knowledge will point out that Pike has been given a powerful artifact and that the rest of Vox Machina will need similar artifacts to defeat the Chroma Conclave.

  • Jossed. Vox Machina learns of the Vestiges from Osysa, who directs them towards the Deathwalker's Ward.

Percy's prosthetic hand is the animation incarnation of Diplomacy
In the original stream Percy had shock gauntlets which he used against Sylas Briarwood in fight at the ziggurat. However in the animation the were absent for the fight. Also unlike the stream where Percy was able to force Orthax out through sheer will, in the cartoon Percy had to shoot his own hand to hurt Orthax. This will result in Percy in having to replace his damaged hand with a prosthetic hand. Its likely that in the cartoon Percy hasn't invented Diplomacy yet but he would probably modify his prosthetic hand in the future so he would have a back up weapon in case his firearms fail. Turning it into Diplomacy would be a great way to bring the weapon into the show especially if in time for the fight against Dr Ripely.
  • Confirmed, Percy refers to his prosthetic as Diplomacy.

Season 2 will focus on Grog and his past
With the attack of the Chroma Conclave at the end of season 1, we'll doubtlessly be diving into that storyline. Which means, unless they decide to go out of order, Umbrasyl is first up on the chopping block (at Grog's own hands no less), so Vox Machina will be going to Westruun, occupied by the Herd of Storms. We'll be diving into Grog's history, his encounter with Wilhand, his abandonment by the Herd, and his unofficial adoption by the Trickfoots.
  • Ehhh... Partially confirmed? It focuses on both Grog's backstory, as well as Vex and Vax's backstory.

Sylas Briarwood was murdered by the Whispered One
Given how absurdly easy it was for Delilah to achieve her goal of turning to necromancy to bring him back, it seems likely that his death was caused by the very being that gave her the power to raise him as a vampire, specifically to set up his own return. This is why nothing could cure what was killing him, the curse was too mighty for conventional healing.

In Season 2 Thordak will be voiced by Matthew Mercer.
Mercer voiced the main male villain of season 1 Sylas so it makes total sense that he'd do so again with Thordak.

Desmond will be a Composite Character with Kynan
Desmond disappeared from the story after Percy shot off his fingers, so there was no scene of Percy apologizing and making a prosthetic for his hand. At the same time, Kynan hasn't appeared in the story to set up for his reappearance as one of Dr. Ripley's henchmen. While they might have simply written Kynan out of the story entirely for time, they could also use Desmond as the young man with a grievance against Vox Machina who Took a Level in Badass.

Scanlan's voice is in preparation for Taryon
The majority of Vox Machina sound more English in the animation than they did around the gaming table — exceptions being Keyleth and Pike, who always had American accents and now simply sound more quirky... and Scanlan, who sounded mid-Atlantic in the stream but fully American in the cartoon.

How, if at all, Taryon would be integrated into the story of the animated series, I couldn't guess — Scanlan being Put on a Bus only to be immediately replaced with another character played by Sam Riegel is a trope that works perfectly well at a gaming table but would be rather bewildering the new medium. But, as was highlighted in the stream on the one occasion Scanlan and Taryon had a conversation with each other, the two sound exactly the same. My guess here is that Scanlan was made more American in the animated series as foresight for the debut of Tary, who will sound more English, as befits his posh personality in comparison to the crass Scanlan.

  • Even in the game Scanlan leaving and then the group immediately meeting Tary wasn't how it was supposed to happen and was due to a miscommunication between Matt and Sam. Tary was supposed to be introduced the following episode and the team would meet him wherever they had chosen to go to next, which is likely how it'll go in the show. This will put some in universe time between the two events and they may even be separated by season breaks.
