Much more openly than most present-day fantasy series, with some very modern attitudes toward LGBTQ+ characters and representation.
Season 1
- In the first episode, an orc tries to insult Vax and fails spectacularly.Agar: Look at your scrawny ass. Too weak to tickle your own pickle.
Vax: (flirtatiously) You offering to help?
Agar: Yeah. (realizes what he just said) Uh, no! I...fuck you! - The second episode gives us everything about Vax and Gilmore, whose flirting is arguably even more overt than it was in the source material.Vax: If we get out of this, I owe you dinner.
Gilmore: You owe me more than that, my handsome half elf.
Pike: (after Vax winks at him) Ooookay guys, foreplay's over. - In “The Feast Of Realms” Scanlan misunderstands a request from a man named Reginald on directions to the privy. Scanlan assumes that Reginald wants to get freaky with him, calls him a libertine and a cad, and says that he likes it in a flirtatious tone.
- Later on, Scanlan decides to distract the party guests by performing a musical number called beads of love, in which he dances around in a lewd way while the area around his crotch shines like a rainbow. Reginald initially blushes while drinking champagne but later on, Scanlan covers himself in cake and starts vigorously thrusting at Reginald’s direction with Reginald fawning like a fan girl over it.
- Grog and Vax’s game of “ball tag” in the third episode has them touch each other’s crotches multiple times in the form of a Groin Attack. This is done twice in the first episode. Scanlan even call the rules of this game “beautiful”
- There are several moments between Scanlan and Grog in the fifth episode.
- At one point Scanlan uses a polymorphing scroll that temporarily turns him into a tall and attractive female version of himself. Grog is quite enamored.
- In another scene when Vox Machina sleeps on the ground, we see Scanlan and Grog in a Sleep Cute pose with Scanlan resting his head on Grog’s stomach.
- In “Spark Of Rebellion” during a montage in which Vox Machina discusses plans to rescue Archie from prison and outlining the plan with childish drawings, Scanlan’s makes a caricature of himself in which he uses potions to turn into a strong handsome man and around the caricature he draws people grasping at him with hearts on their eyes. One of these people appears to be Reginald, who is drawn naked and jumping on Scanlan’s arm while rubbing his bare chest.
- After successfully torching down Vedmire's house, Scanlan stumbles up what he thinks is a couple making out, both happen to be male. This does not deter him as he asks if he can join in... until he finds out it's an undead corpse ripping apart the man apart.
- In episode 11, Keyleth takes a spell for Vex, and collapses in her arms, causing Vex to utterly break down in fear for Keyleth's life. While this would not be particularly homoerotic on its own, it did not happen in the original campaign, where Vex was simply hit by the spell.
- Scanlan tries to seduce a muscular Whitestone man in episode 12, but Vax drags him away because these people have just gotten out of a revolution and definitely don't need Scanlan giving them an STI.
- Also in episode 12, when Vex puts a hand on Keyleth's shoulder and encourages her about the tree portal spell, the latter quite noticeably blushes.
Season 2
- There are plenty of moments between Vax and Gilmore in "Rise of the Chroma Conclave". Vax worries over Gilmore when they find his shop in ruins and holds him as Pike heals what injuries she can. Gilmore smiles happily at seeing Vax and caresses his face with his hand. When they make it to Whitestone, Keeper Yenen looks after Gilmore, telling Vax if Gilmore was important to him, then he's important to her.
- In "The Trials of Vasselheim" we meet Zahra, who very much comes off like Vex's jilted ex-girlfriend. After receiving a mission from Osysa, Vex retrieves her feather that Zahra had taken and runs it across her cheek with a smile.
- During “Into Rimecleft” when the Vox Machina members endure cold weather in their search for a sphinx, Scanlan becomes exhausted from the cold temperatures despite the fact that Keyleth casted a hovering fire orb spell to keep the team warm. Noticing this, Grog grabs Scanlan and places him in a makeshift harness attached to his chest in a similar way to how a parent holds their baby. Despite struggling for a couple seconds, Scanlan starts to like being harnessed like this, acknowledging that Grog has a cozy chest while expressing dreamy anime eyes.
- In the episode “Echo Tree”, Pike and Scanlan take Grog to Wilhand Trickfoot’s house to get Grog back to health after Grog becomes weakened by Craven’s Edge. Wilhand makes a suppository from herbs, bugs, and mud and tells Grog that the pill is not supposed to go down his mouth. Scanlan realizes what this means and proceeds to take the pill, open up Grog’s skirt, and ram the pill up Grog’s rear end all while Pike serves as a Scenery Censor for this.Scanlan: I got this. I've worked both ends before.
- While drinking and celebrating during "The Kill Box," Percy is talking with Grog and Zanror. Zanror throws his arm around Percy and pulls him into his chest, leaving Percy looking flustered.
- Scanlan in “Belly Of The Beast” decides to shove something up a guy’s butt again, this time he does this to a male dragon named Umbrasyl during the fight against him. Scanlan tells Vax that to safely get inside Unbrasyl’s body without getting dissolved by his acid, they both have to take “the other end”. Scanlan and Vax decide to go up Umbrasyl’s cloaca with Scanlan’s hand with the hand shaped like it is going to do a prostate exam. However, the hand is moving in such a high speed that it ends up looking phallic.
- Scanlan declares "I am so in love with you right now" after being rescued by a winged Vax.
