Life After Magic Tropes:

  • The '90s: The game begins on the 20th of December in 1999 and ends on the 1st of January 2000.
  • Action Girl: All the Sentinels of Justice were this during their magical girl days.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Akiko can fall in love with five female and one non-binary character(s), and the entire cast is very sapphic.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Each of the main six has a colour associated with them;
    • Akiko: White
    • ARA: Pink
    • Jackie: Orange-Yellow
    • Miranda: Blue
    • KJ: Purple
    • Leez: Green
  • Cosmic Motifs: The Sentinels of Justice are named after various cosmic concepts: Starlight, Aurora, Sol, Nova and Perigee. With Leez being the one exception since, should she join the sentinels, she gives herself the name: Team Support Codename Aardvark.
  • Dialogue Tree: The game will usually give two or three different dialog options and while some of the options have no real impact on the story, others will change how Akiko's relationships with her teammates play out or if the customers at Glamor Pop are happy with her customer service.
  • Five-Man Band: The Sentinels of Justice are a group of five magical girls.
  • Former Friends Photo: The game starts with Akiko looking at a photo which shows her and her friends, with whom she lost touch, during their time as magical girls.
  • Frills of Justice: The main cast's Sentinels of Justice outfits, with their puffy sleeves, from their time as magical girls certainly look the part.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: At the start of the game the player will be asked what the main characters name is. Her default name is Akiko.
  • Improbably Female Cast: The cast consists mainly of female characters with only two male characters, one of which being a cat, and one non-binary character. Some additional characters are mentioned but never seen.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Akiko is the light feminine to Anna Lee's dark feminine.
  • Magical Girl: The main premise of the game is that you play as a former magical girl whose magical girl powers are beginning to disappear and has to reconnect with her former teammates to find out who is behind it.
  • Relationship Values: Characters will either like Akiko more or less, depending on which dialog option was chosen.
  • Romance Game: Akiko can try to start a romantic relationship with all of her former teammates and two additional characters.
  • Sailor Senshi Send-Up: The Magical Girls mostly have space-themed names and Akiko has a Mentor Mascot black cat similar to Luna from Sailor Moon.
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: Akiko is stuck working for a pretty tiring job at a make-up store. A common occurrence throughout the story is having to manage unruly customers - who only get more and more antsy and unhinged as the story goes on. And then, it turns out to be ACTUALLY soul-sucking, since Anna Lee is using her make-up products to suck up magical energy from everyone who uses the product.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Akiko may have been a talented magical protector in her teenhood as Sentinel Starlight, but having to constantly battle foes unfortunately dipped quite a bit into her education - thus she ended up dropping out and is now stuck in a Soul-Sucking Retail Job.
  • The World Is Always Doomed: Before they retired, the Sentinels of Justice saved the world from the forces of darkness almost weekly.
