All spoilers for Doki Doki Literature Club! will be left unmarked. If you have not played that game, it is strongly recommended that you do so before reading this page or playing the mod, as doing either first is very likely to ruin your experience.

"And now I can see it. The world beyond the stars. The world of dreams."

Doki Doki: World of Dreams is a fan-made Game Mod of Doki Doki Literature Club! created by morbiusgreen. Originally a Self-Insert Fic titled, And I Have Seen the World of Dreams, it evolved into this.

A certain player (with a first and last name, so keep that in mind when naming your character) is thrust into the world of the Doki Doki Literature Club!, possessing the body of the game's protagonist, Meiji Chizu. However, Meiji is still around, just relegated to backseat driver in his own body. Together, along with Monika, they try to prevent the events of the original game from happening. Will they succeed? Or will they fail?

The full release of the first act, Act One: Hello, World?, may be downloaded for free from the developer's website.

A non-canon Thanksgiving Special was released on November 25, 2021, then a canon Christmas Special Release on December 31, 2021, serving as an Interquel between Act 1 and after the prologue of Act 2 (where The Player manually resets the game).

A Demo version of the second act, Act Two: if Death == False, was released on April 2, 2023. Then, on October 1, 2023, the second act is fully released and can be downloaded from here.

Warning: All spoilers beyond Act 1 will be marked!

This mod contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Unlike the original Fanfic, The Player's original name, brief info of his home and college life, and his two best friends, Harvey and Jamie, aren't part of the Game Mod. Presumably to make The Player as much of a Featureless Protagonist as possible for the video game medium.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The mod does this for the characters' lives at home and school, the area around them, and other numerous Original Characters for good measure.
  • Adaptation Name Change: In the Fanfic, The Player's name was Josiah Bordeaux. Here, he goes unnamed with the Hello, [Insert Name Here] treatment.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: As a result of Adaptation Expansion, all of the Doki Doki club members have their canon problems on top of dealing with other things.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Inverted. Unlike the game, Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki's hair colors are changed to "realistic colors", brown, black, and blonde respectively. Furthermore, Natsuki and Yuri's eye colors are changed to brown.
  • Age Lift: Inverted. In the Fanfic, The Player was 22 years old and is mentioned to graduating college soon. In the mod, he's 20 instead.
  • All Just a Dream: The whole experience that The Player went through in the 2021 Christmas special after hitting the In-Universe Reset Button after the prologue of Act 2 is this.
  • All Take and No Give: Even though they're still friends, albeit rather distant in the current time, The Player accurately describes this sort of dynamic between Meiji and Sayori, which is something that Meiji agrees with when learning of the latter's depression that she's good at hiding behind smiles. Their first action at the beginning of the game is rekindling Meiji's close friendship with Sayori.
The Player: (as Meiji to Sayori) Friendship is a two-way street, and you've put more work into walking that street than I have.
  • Alliterative Name: Yuri Yoshika.
  • Alternate Universe: The world that The Player finds himself trapped in is similar to the Doki Doki Literature Club! but with many different elements.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Averted with The Player. In the canon game, The Player can be whoever he/she/they are as the MC is basically a Blank Slate for them to navigate throughout the game. Here, as well as the original Fanfic, The Player is explicitly a male (his name can still be decided on), and is shown to have romantic feelings for Monika.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Christmas Special Interquel ends with The Player waking up and woefully lampshades how everything that transpires to Earn Your Happy Ending was All Just a Dream, along with the Mysterious Watcher narrating that The Player and his friends will be constantly challenged by the world they're in and how it won't be easy to achieve their happy ending. At the same time, it also implies that the events of the Christmas special might come true depending on how the heroes resolve their journey.
  • Continuity Snarl: Justified. The Updated Re-release, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, has no basis for the mod's storyline as the latter was written and released before 2021.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Subverted in the 2021 Christmas Special, since it was All Just a Dream for The Player before waking up in the body of Meiji and starting the whole week again in Act 2.
  • The Faceless:
    • Unlike in the main game, the MC is his own character in the fan-made Game Mod.
    • However, it's played straight for The Player's actual appearance, since he can be whatever male you could find in real life.
  • Fountain of Youth: When separating into two different people after entering the Space Classroom for the first time, The Player's original age of 20 regressed to match the age of the high school characters (18).
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Not for the protagonist this time around, but for The Player who would be Trapped in Another World.
  • Interface Spoiler: Besides the Mysterious Watcher, one of the things that foreshadow the true nature of the Christmas Special Interquel as a false reality is the fact that The Player and Meiji's text box colors are switched.
  • Mysterious Watcher: In the 2021 Christmas Special Interquel, something...was watching and interacting with The Player prior to him waking for a Christmas Eve morning. Afterward, it made very scarce third-person narrations throughout the special and until the end with an ominous speech regarding how the heroes will face many trials in the world they're in.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Downplayed. All the girls in the literature club have their canon first names, but the mod gives them surnames unseen in canon. Sayori, Natsuki, Yuri, and Monika's last names are Fujioka, Muramoto, Yoshika, and Asano respectively.
    • On the other hand the MC has his own name, Meiji Chizu, prior to The Player inhabiting his body. This also doubles as an Adaptation Name Change as of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, where the Canon Name for the MC is Ive.
    • Averted with The Player himself, as his original name in the Fanfic was Josiah Bordeaux. Interestingly, when being uploaded in the Doki Doki Literature Club! world, his code is typed as "player.chr".
  • Ordinary High-School Student: Meiji is one, while the male player has already grown past high school age in the real world (being 20 years old).
  • Original Character: Meiji's parents are one such example, as well as many other characters in the fan mod.
  • Pocket Dimension: The "Space Classroom" is this, with a visual view of the DDLC planet from outer space. Not only does it allow The Player and Meiji to exist separately, along with Monika affecting reality by using the computer there, but it also allows them and Sayori to survive reality crashing event once Act 1 comes to an end.
  • Reset Button: An In-Universe example after the first act of the game is over. After much-needed planning for the upcoming events of Act 2, The Player flew out of the Space Classroom and hit the reset button on the giant title screen in order to progress in the DDLC world.
  • Sharing a Body: As a result of some sort of system error, The Player's physical body is unable to transfer completely in the DDLC world, resulting in him having to mentally pilot Meiji's body while the latter takes a backseat in their mind. Whenever they go into Monika's special room, however, the two of them will exist separately.
  • Significant Anagram: The protagonist's name is Meiji Chizu. Doubles as a Punny Name as well.
  • Trapped in Another World: For some mysterious reason, the male player has been transported to the world of Doki Doki Literature Club! and currently possesses Meiji Chizu's body as a result of some sort of system error.
