"Humans are learning to learn."
—Me, 2020
Hey, it's me, Shmatt.
I'm just a guy who loves to draw, write, code and make music. So, after discovering this site, I think I am obsessed. Started off with poor grammar and writing, came out better. Character Development is weird like that. Previously put here that I enjoy darker works but I think it's more just I like depth and exploring an idea, concept, or what have you. I have ASD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder. That's pretty much it.
Tropes that apply to me:
- Anti-Nihilist: Life may be ultimately pointless, but we should have some fun at least!
- Brutal Honesty: I prefer to be blunt about things, I do not want to waste my time beating around the bush.
- Contemplate Our Navels: I do it a lot. Lot of spending lost in my own head. Disassociating just adds to it as well.
- Cuckoo Snarker: Sure, as if I am sarcastic or eccentric at all. I am more snarky but I am still quite ridiculous.
- Mathematician's Answer: My usage of this is very snarky, now how often do I answer like this? Yes.
- Self-Deprecation: Look! The idiot has written himself a troper page!
Favorite Tropes:
Favorite Tropes
- Affably Evil: Such a jolly guy even if he's destroying the world and slaughtering many families!
- Boring Yet Practical: Because it often provokes the reaction: "Oh, that makes sense."
- Break the Haughty: I love it when a character with an obnoxious hubris gets what they deserve.
- But for Me, It Was Tuesday: The day I found this trope was very enjoyable and found it hilarious. But for everyone else? It probably wasn't a tuesday.
- Deadpan Snarker: Yeah, me saying it's one of my favorite tropes is not surprising. I just find snarky and witty humor to be my favorite. Any character that regularly snarks is likely to be a favorite of mine.
- Deconstruction: I love this in any work and I do partake in deconstructing tropes myself.
- Eldritch Abomination: An incredibly massive and largely bizarre entity is something that I love yet fear.
- Lonely Among People: Just a trope I can very much relate to, idk, it just something that happens.
- Nothing Is Scarier: I agree. The lack of something is what fuels fear, at least for me.
- Psychological Horror: It really gets under my skin and disturbs me.
- The Snark Knight: I relate to this trope for the whole isolation thing, they usually say what I want to say. Though, the intelligence thing? Yeah, as if I am that smart.
- Tranquil Fury: "I am enraged... but in a very chill and nonchalant way."
- The Woobie: How I want to both hug them and see them fight it through.
Favorite Works:
Anime & Manga
- My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected: Hikigaya Hachiman is such a mood.
- Dragon Ball Z: A massive influence for wanting to draw characters fighting, inspiring my want to be a voice actor and screaming very loudly.
- March Comes in Like a Lion: This one is beautiful and painfully relatable with my depressive episodes. The very first opening is the most accurate visual to what depression can feel like.
- Mob Psycho 100: God, do I love this anime/manga. I recommend it for those who love psychic action, bizarre humor and an engaging narrative. This work has helped me through tough times and inspires me greatly to improve upon myself.
- I Sold My Life For Ten Thousand Yen Per Year: This manga caused me to have an existential crisis.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: This franchise is all kinds of fucked up. I enjoy it.
- Serial Experiments Lain: Not as fucked to the above entry but still up there. Also enjoyed it.
Music
- Brand New: Yes, Jesse Lacey did shit that was disgusting and unethical. Still, I love the band's music, feeds into my hardcore emo, punk-y and loud rock obsession.
- Radiohead: Band that I hold dear to me and thoroughly enjoy their music. "Fake Plastic Trees", "Let Down", "Climbing Up the Walls", "Lift", "2 + 2 = 5", "Sit Down. Stand Up" and "Videotape" are some of my favorites from the band. I would list more but it would be ridiculous.
- Red Vox: My favorite band. One of the first bands that got me into songwriting, though, it wasn't the first to get me into music composition. Favorite songs are: "The Wrong Side of History", "Hazy", "Ghost Page", "Another Light", "Forgive and Forget", "Stranded", "Be Someone Forever", "Ozymandias", "Far Away" and "Pale Blue Dot".
Literature
- I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream: I really like the nightmare fuel and the post-apocalyptic in this short story. Though, I haven't actually sat down and read it.
Video Games
- Doom: Original 1993 game that was brought into my life at (worryingly) early on, I got invested in the community and the mods made for it. After that, I discovered out how to make maps and mods for Doom, I still make mods for it occasionally.
- Mother 3: It made me cry.
- SIGNALIS: Spooky space lesbian game. Also, really sad.
- Silent Hill 2: A game that disturbs me on an emotional level. Not to mention, it's a tearjerker. Also, the music is awesome, I recommend it for those who love rock music, sweet ambiance, or the sounds of edited and distorted clanging of frying pans.
- Undertale: A game that really got me into game design and music. Well, my interest in game development has dropped somewhat but I still hold it up as something that really made me invest hours into trying to make games. Music, however, I got submerged and I am still making tracks to this day.
Western Animation
- Avatar: The Last Airbender: Grew up with it, but never got to watch it all the way through until I decided to while in college.
- SpongeBob SquarePants: A show I grew up with. I'm pretty sure everyone knows who Spongebob is.
Web Videos
- Pwnage: How I love and miss this Let's Play channel. Damian and Kyle are a great duo for the way they create disturbing humor. Damian has his insanity and stupidity which is contrasted by Kyle's cynical and snarky worldview.
- Spike and Barley Play: Another Let's Play channel that I adore, can't wait for them to start uploading again.
