Trivia / Ultraman Decker

Go To

  • Milestone Celebration: Part of the TDG Trilogy's 25th anniversary alongside Ultraman Trigger while also serves as one for Ultraman Dyna's 25th anniversary, as well as the 55th anniversary of Ultraseven and simultaneously celebrating Ultraman Ace's 50th anniversary with the appearances of Yapool and Aribunta.
  • Off-the-Shelf FX: Takanori Tsujimoto mentions in a Twitter post that Twin Tail's appearance in Episode 6 is portrayed by an X-Plus vinyl figure due to the existing Twin Tail suit being too decayed to use.
  • Prop Recycling:
    • The Sphere Gomora suit was made by modifying the Skull Gomora suit of Ultraman Geed, replacing the Red King parts with Sphere-themed pieces.
    • For Elly's various stages, props from Ultraman Max (for the tadpole stage) and Ultraman Mebius (for its baby stage) are reused. Averted for its adult form, which is a brand new suit instead of reusing the one in use from Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle to Ultraman Geed.
    • Gudon's suit is the one long in use since Ultraman Mebius, it's also the suit's last use before retirement as it was starting to degrade from age and the wear of its usage.
    • Sphere Megalothor is a reused Megalothor's second form with Sphere attachments on its shell.
    • Grace's cape is taken from the one Don Nostra wore, while the four swords he summons to form a wrestling ring are reused from Juda Spectre's Bat Calibur.
    • Sphere Red King was made by modifying the Red King I suit in use since Ultraman Max by repainting it red, adding Sphere-like traits, enlarging the fangs and giving it blue-white eyes.
    • Neomegas was made through modifying the base Grigio suit originating from Ultraman R/B by adding external parts to make it resemble Neosaurus. Sphere-Neomegas further modifies the suit by giving it Spheresaurus' front legs as one of the forms it can take.
    • Raibasser was made by repainting Gue-Basser and adding horns on its head.
    • Noiseler's suit was made for a 2018 music video as a cross-promotion for Kaiju Girls and had later been used for Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy.
    • The Zomborg Soldiers' suit were made by using the helmets of Khan Digifier's troops from a Denkō Chōjin Gridman stageshow and the armor plates of XIO member uniforms from Ultraman X.
    • Sphere-Geomos was made by heavily modifying the Segmeger suit.
    • Chandlar is a loosely modified Peguila suit again, using the relatively new suit that was made for Ultraman X.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Masashi Taniguchi referred to getting to play Decker Asumi as "a dream come true". This incidentally makes him only the second actor to have played a Sentai Ranger, a Kamen Rider and an Ultramannote  after Kane Kosuginote  achieved the same a few months earlier.
  • Throw It In!: Agira doing the infamous "sulking pose", upon being desummoned in episode 6 was entirely ad-libbed by suit actor Kenji Kajikawa who is a fan of Agira and wanted to reference the memorable scene.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Initially Neomegas was going to have scythe arms in its non-mutated form, but director Koshi thought the arms were much more fit for a Sphere-Mutant and postponed their appearance until episode 12 where Sphere-Neomegas debuts.
    • Sphere-Neomegas getting Spheresaurus' arms wasn't initially in the script, but Koshi also thought they'd fit its design for their spikiness.
    • Terraphaser was conceived as being a battleship in the earliest stages of the show's writing, when that was scrapped due to the cost and time it would take to render in CGI the idea was to have it be a Combining Mecha, but due to the complexity of the concept it was eventually simply turned into a one-form, one-piece mecha who simply has a Stance System with its chest cannon as the only leftover of the initial idea. The idea for the battleship was reworked into the GUTS Hawk for the show proper.
    • Initially "Agams" was not supposed to exist as a character, and Asakage was meant to remain as a good guy from the start to end. Instead Terraphaser was meant to turn evil due to its AI being hijacked or said AI misunderstanding its purpose and aiding the Sphere as a result. Bandai pushed the idea of a humanoid villain and thus Asakage was turned into the series' central antagonist in rewrites and revealed in the latter half of the show, the AI concept was kept in through both HANE-2/Hanejiro and Terraphaser's own short-lived AI unit.
  • Word of God:
    • According to Masayoshi Takeshue, Spheresaurus was given its unique four-legged design because he wanted to make it different from past Ultra Series kaiju and bring in bigger, more unique and more unusual monsters into the franchise; he had the creative freedom of picking his design choice as the higher-ups at Tsuburaya merely told him to design a monster without any further restrictions.
    • According to Yu Koyanagi (actor of Yuichiro Asakage), the whole cast of Decker was given the information on the twist of Asakage being an evil alien and one of the series' main antagonists from before filming even started, so as to give the actors the challenge of being able to act as if they were oblivious to the twist.
  • Word of Saint Paul: Kanata's actor, Daiki Matsumoto, has said on Twitter that Alien Metron Nigel is neither male nor female.
  • You Look Familiar: Two of the cast members had previously worked on projects related to Ultraman Zero.
    • Yuichiro Asakage is portrayed by Yu Koyanagi, who previously played Run, the first host of Zero and the sorta protagonist of The Revenge Of Belial film.
    • Sawa Kaizaki is portrayed by Sae Miyazawa, who had previously portrayed another character named Sawa, a combat squad member of the Earth Defense Force Team U that saved the children of Earth from the evil Alien Bat in the Ultraman Saga movie.
    • Masaya Kikawada (Murahoshi) was previously Alien Gold tE-rU.
    • The old man in charge of the hot springs in episode 4 is played by Masami Horiuchi, who was also Chairman Matsunaga from Ultraman Nexus, on top of many other cameos and minor roles throughout the Ultra series, as well as Roidmude 001 in Kamen Rider Drive.
