Tear Jerker / Ultraman Decker

Spoilers Off applies to Moments pages. Proceed at your own risk.

With a decidedly more somber tone than its preceding series, Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga, Ultraman Decker presents a far more dire situation for our protagonists to be up against as their spiritual strength is put to the test due to the increasingly bleak situation Earth is facing at the Spheres' hands.

    The Day of Invasion
  • It can be rather sad to hear that GUTS Select was partly disbanded and has been reduced to almost non-existent, with the machines Nursedessei and GUTS Falcon being the few things left due to budget cuts derived from a lack of kaiju attacks in nearly a decade. And even both are now fully unmanned drones, meaning the once-filled base is now empty. (Un)fortunately, the Spheres attack, forcing GUTS Select to be restored to its former state.
  • Kanata demonstrates his heroic spirit when he saves a woman trapped underneath rubble. The woman is understandably terrified out of her wits and still shaken after being rescued. Worse is that he later follows it up by trying to take on the Spheres himself and almost dies when one consumes him, we hear his thoughts as he believes he's truly done for before Decker merges with him.
  • After Decker fails to stop the King Spheres from trapping Earth and transforms back into Kanata, the latter is found and reprimanded by a furious Ryumon who makes it clear that he was afraid that a civilian could have died in the midst of the chaos while he was helpless to save him.
  • Despite Decker's best efforts, the Spheres succeed in trapping Earth inside a world-spanning dome and cut off all communication with the Mars colony, separating countless families, friends and loved ones from each other, including Kanata's parents. While TPU and Kanata resolve to push on, it's quite the bleak ending compared to the usual ones of the first episodes of the Ultra Series.

    Kanata's Resolve
  • Earth has remained under the control of the Spheres for one year. While Kanata's training in TPU is paying off he feels insecure and afraid of the future due to Decker effectively ghosting him in all that time as people lose hope of ever seeing freedom despite the inactivity of the Spheres. Even worse is that he can only hope his family is doing fine without him.
  • TPU itself is skeptical of whether the new Ultraman is a hero or a possible new enemy despite his good work, as his one-year absence is really starting to affect their faith in him reappearing to aid against the Spheres. Even Captain Taiji shows a lot of uncertainty over whether Decker will come back or not.
  • Kanata and Ryumon start up an argument over Kanata wanting to push on with the training despite his leg injury while Ryumon wants them to cut their losses and return to the base with the exercise unfinished and almost reach a more nasty escalation when Ryumon starts telling Kanata that he's got no place in GUTS Select and worrying that his partner might compromise his entry into the team while Kanata is furious that Ryumon is willing to give up that easily. Thankfully Kirika is able to talk some sense into both.

    Move Out, GUTS Select!
  • Gomora is noted here to be usually peaceful and gentle, with TPU very confused and distressed by its unwarned aggressive outburst. It's heavily implied that it only went on a rampage because of the Spheres' dome confusing and enraging it. Worse is that in order to create Sphere Gomora, the Spheres forcefully assimilate the wounded ancient monster and mutate its body into a horrific synthetic beast with it even being noted that Gomora is confused and pained by its mutations.

    Glutton of the Lake
  • Similarly to what happened in the third episode of Ultraman Geed, a benevolent and friendly Eleking is driven mad by its starving hunger and goes out of control to the distress of its equally benevolent Alien Pitt owner. Luckily the story ends much more positively this time thanks to Decker sparing Elly.
  • Alien Pitt Yuko's backstory: She is a friendly Alien Pitt who was traveling across the universe and took a stop on Earth for a while, and then the Spheres came down and barricaded the planet trapping her in. Her only company was her pet Eleking, Elly, who she fears will die if she doesn't feeds him lots of energy daily and this in turn goes south when Eleking starts needing more and more energy per day to survive and his hunger drives him to aggression. Even Kirika can't help but opt to help her so her beloved pet won't die either via starvation or by being killed by GUTS Select.

The Light of Hope from the Red Planet
  • Kengo is back... And while he's as positive as ever, there's a lot of hints that the bleak situation of both Mars and Earth and leftover guilt and regret from his battles as Trigger are dawning and weighing on him. Most notably is his regret over not being able to save Carmeara and failing to make her smile, when he brings up his past deeds he is notably shaken when he remembers Carmeara dying in his arms.
  • When Trigger and Decker successfully hurt Sphere-Megalothor and cut open a wound, a familiar face emerges from the wound's inside, revealing itself to be Carmeara who screams Kengo's name; Trigger shows downright PTSD and can't go with destroying her, causing the God of Darkness to retreat and leaving him in shock.

    A Promise for Tomorrow
  • During the confrontation with Yuichiro Asakage who is revealed to be an alien called Agams, Kanata felt so angry and sad at the betrayal from the professor and questions him on whether his vow to protect Earth to his encouragement to Kanata to find a goal Was It All a Lie?. But Agams only responds by saying how Kanata's naivety sickens him and fires at him with the Mysterious Man taking the shot for Kanata.
  • Before leaving, Decker asks Kanata to save Agams, not just Earth.

    The Sky of Despair
  • The hopeful attitude and friendly demeanor of the amnesiac Agams make it much harder to remember just what he became after Laelia's death. Even worse is when he brings up that he is amazed at being on Earth and remembering that his wife wanted to go to Earth, then swearing he'll fight the Sphere to protect her and his friends, which causes Kanata to very nearly slip up the truth of his future by accident.
  • By the end of the episode Agams has began to lose himself and by the end seems to fully have lost everything but his memories of Laelia, and even then he can only seem to think up of the first word of the phrase he coined to preserve his own memories.

    The End of a Dream
  • Two words: Agams' death. After he had finally redeemed himself and helped destroy the Sphere Barrier, he is ultimately killed by Mother Spheresaurus while taking the attack of the Spheres' leader for Decker. Unlike the past defeats of Terraphaser this one is far more poignant as we see her attack pierce through the robot's armor and Agams' last moments are spent looking at a vision of his wife and assuring Kanata that they can all build a better future.
