Trivia / Titan Academy

  • Acting for Two: In the earlier skits, it's a lot more common that one actor would play multiple characters, since the actors' main roles haven't been truly established yet.
    • Season 1 Episode 2, 12 Teachers You'll Never Want To Meet, featured several unnamed teachers that would end up never being mentioned again, played by student actors. Including Nicole Low (Nicole and the Bimbotic Teacher), JianHao Tan (Jianhao and the Hungover Teacher), Kevin Foo (Kevin and the Unhygienic Teacher), Jasmine Lee Rui Hong (Jasmine and the Over Time Teacher).
    • Ridhwan Azman plays both Ren Yi Xiang and Peter Papadum.
    • Ryan Tan plays both Ryan and Xi Guay Ong.
    • Sylvia Chan plays as Sylvia Tan (Jianhao's mother) and Sylvia of Class B00B5.
  • Ascended Fanon: Many are so taken with Madam Soot Beng acting like a Karen mom they jokingly thought her full name is Karen Soot Beng, and also enhanced when she starred the Karen segment in 20 Types of People in Face Masks where in the "Top 23 Moments of 2020" video, her segment was literally titled "Karen Soot Beng". Come the late 2021, JianHao decided to just roll with it and made it canon: Her full name is literally Karen Soot Beng.
  • Creator Couple: JianHao and Debbie were dating prior to the series' creation, with them eventually marrying and having a daughter, Starley, in the middle of airing.
  • The Danza: Nearly everyone from Class T1T5 and N4T1 — except a select few — are named after their actors, as JianHao initially had no idea that the series would explode in popularity, and thus didn't think through on character names. Come the introduction of Class N4T1, they managed to assign different names to the new students and generally averting the trope.
  • Dawson Casting: The students are in their twenties at least, portraying teenagers in high school. It's a pretty common decision for a live-action high-school series.
  • Development Hell: A Field Trip movie was funded via Kickstarter, but unfortunately JianHao had to put it on the back burner due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: Debbie was pregnant with Starley in 2019. The videos worked around this by having her sit at a desk for most of her scenes (thus hiding her belly) and wearing a loose school uniform when she wasn't.
  • Inspiration for the Work: During a Q&A session, Denise Soong (the actress who played Denise) admitted that when she was younger, she was also smart but alienated from her peers, forcing her to eat lunch alone in the toilet. A few videos later, during the '12 Types of Student During Recess' video, her past was integrated into her character.
  • Making Use of the Twin: Silvy (Madeline) was sick during the shoot of the science class video, so the crew brought her twin in some shots.
  • Playing Against Type: When Charles the French guest-starred as Mr. Gueneard, he's playing a more subdued person that still delivers humor by being long-winded. If you go to his channel, you'll learn that Mr. Gueneard is a departure from Charles' usual humor style where he plays wacky hyperactive person that annoys others, ensuring Hilarity Ensues. Mr. Gueneard also lacks Charles' signature Catchphrase such as "You RESSSPECCCC me!!" or "OOOH, WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOOOOWWWNNN!!!"
  • Post-Script Season: Taken to its logical extreme. The show was originally only planned to be a one-off skit like all of JianHao's other videos at the time, but received so many views that JianHao decided to continue it, and the rest is history. This also changed the entire layout of the channel: eventually, they stopped doing their usual one-off videos and switched their focus entirely to Titan Academy's adventures. Occasionally, however, their TEAM TITAN Channel uploads similar one-off skits like the old times, though it won't always star JianHao (as aside of his Class T1T5 rule, he's also doing his job as a father of his family with Debbie and Starley.)
  • Real Life Writes the Plot:
    • Due to the series still ongoing and gaining momentum when the COVID-19 Pandemic happened, the shorts released during that period revolve around how the cast react with the pandemic while some planned productions, such as the aforementioned Field Trip movie, ended up in Development Hell.
    • In August 2021, Ng Tong En (Cleverly) reached the age where he was required to enter the Singaporean National Service, to which the regulations required him to be shaved bald, and overall, he had to leave the show. And so, when the show was made Darker and Edgier, Cleverly ended up pulling a Heroic Sacrifice which caused him to be expelled AND had his hair shaved bald on-screen as part of the story, something that Tong En probably agreed with to smooth out his entry to the national service.
      • A similar case with Vance, whose actor also had to go to NS and also had his head shaved onscreen.
    • Nicole is Put on a Bus at the start of the new school year In-Universe to look for her missing mother in New York. In real life, this was done because the actress became pregnant.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor:
    • In August of 2020, multiple allegations emerged of Dee Kosh (Mr. Lakosh) sexually harassing teenage boys, which led to Night Owl Cinematics cutting ties with him. While there has been no official word, the notable absence of Mr. Lakosh from mid-Season 3 onwards seem to suggest the same may have happened between Titan Digital Media and Kosh. Eventually culminates that in Season 4, Mr. Lakosh becomes one of the teachers that were laid off due to Titan Academy's ailing financial status.
    • Late 2021, another controversy involving Night Owl Cinematics happened where Sylvia Chan (Sylvia Tan) had one of her chat history and recording leaked and she's heard acting extremely rude to her co-workers while she's the NOC's CEO, which erupted on social media. Titan Digital Media did not completely erase Sylvia (the character) or put her on a bus for this (her last appearance was right before the school re-opened after the pandemic), but they make sure that she becomes Out of Focus, where she has no speaking role or appearing on camera, and yet her presence is still felt in-series (she can still call Jianhao home, for instance, but had to relay the message from Walater).
  • Romance on the Set: JianHao and Debbie got married in 2019 and the couple have one daughter.
  • Teasing Creator:
    • As a rule of thumb, you should not take JianHao's Instagram posts or social media comments at face value, because what he produces for the series might not be what you expected from that. For instance: The third exam was hyped as 'The last exam of Class T1T5' and he acted like the Grand Finale of the series is coming. It's NOT the end of the series or the last exam ever. It's just the last exam for that particular class because in the end, the class got dissolved and the students transferred to different classes, and they still have to deal with graduation which wouldn't come so soon after the class transfers. JianHao really likes to tease his audience a lot. He also didn't mention back then that the heist to restore status quo was coming.
    • Cleverly’s return has also been heavily teased after his actor Ng Tong En came back from NS as a writer/part-time director.
  • Throw It In!: During the filming of the Multiverse episode when collaborating with Sony, Nurhakim Suhaimi (Hakim) started pondering about further usage of the multiverse ring and made mention about JianHao Tan's old 'Loh Yeh Moh Yeh'. JianHao then remembered that the phrase hasn't been used since they were Growing the Beard channel-wise and liked such concept that they decided to put the random cameo solely for the line for humor and utilizing the multiverse ring.
