What Could Have Been: The book was one-third of a collaboration between Millar, Grant Morrison and Mark Waid in an effort to revamp Superman for the 21st Century. When DC opted for a more conventional reboot, Millar took his ideas and retooled it into Red Son. Meanwhile, Morrison would reuse their plans in All-Star Superman while Waid utilized his ideas for Superman: Birthright.
Although in this universe Ukraine was not part of Russia, but a partner with Russia in the Soviet Union, in this universe Stalin's original plans in 1922 was to merge Ukraine and Byelorus into Soviet Russia (until overruled by Lenin), so in the Soviet Supe universe, Ukraine could well have been a constituent republic of Russia, not of the Soviet Union.
Superman follows this both as an adult and as a child. As an adult, he's voiced by Jason Isaacs, who is British (though is of Eastern European descent). As a child, he's voiced by Tara Strong, who is a Canadian/American dual citizen.
Roger Craig Smith reprises his role as Batman, yet he uses a Russian accent instead of an American accent.
