- Acting for Two:
- The Jaguar Triplets are all voiced by Gael García Bernal.
- In the Japanese dub, Aya Suzaki voice both the Widow Queen and Xtabay.
- Actor-Shared Background: Most of the cast is Latino, if not Mexican.
- All-Star Cast: Starring Zoe Saldaña, Diego Luna, Gabriel Iglesias, Stephanie Beatriz, Gael García Bernal, Alfred Molina, Queen Latifah, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Kate del Castillo, Rita Moreno, Rosie Perez, Isabela Merced, and last but not least... Jorge Gutiérrez and Sandra Equihua.
- Celebrity Voice Actor: In the Japanese dub, Chivo is voiced by comedian and imitator Takehiro Yamamoto.
- Cross-Regional Voice Acting: In the Latin American Spanish dub, which was done mostly in Mexico, and despite the Mexican setting of the show, there's an unusual amount of non-Mexican voice actors, excluding Mexican-American ones, including voice actors from Colombia (Javier Rodríguez, David Gallego and Nathalia Gutierrez), Chile (Bárbara Bustamante and Antonella Moreno) and Argentina (Irene Guiser).
- Deleted Scene: Gutierrez revealed on his Twitter that he and the show's team had originally planned out a scene where Zatz learns about Acat's death from his father and pays respects to her at a memorial shrine. The scene ended up getting cut for time, which Gutierrez has admitted he regrets because it would have given Acat's character arc better closure.
- Descended Creator: The show's creators, Jorge Gutiérrez and Sandra Equihua, voice King and Queen Teca.
- Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Diego Luna, Jorge Gutierrez, Sandra Equihua, Gael García Bernal, Isabela Merced, and Kate del Castillo dub themselves in their respective roles. A very strange aversion happens, however: Joaquín Cosío, despite voicing Camazotz, doesn't dub himself in the Latin American dub, but he is voiced by Ricardo Brust instead. On the other hand, Lord Mictlan is dubbed by Cosio in Spanish, while Alfred Molina voiced him in English instead.
- Production Posse:
- Silvia Olivas, co-executive producer of Elena of Avalor, previously worked with Jorge Gutiérrez, Stephanie Beatriz, Allan Maldonado, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Rita Moreno, and Rosie Perez on the show.
- Eric Bauza and Carlos Alazraqui worked with Jorge Gutiérrez on his other show, El Tigre.
- Completing the El Tigre reunion are Alanna Ubach and Grey DeLisle who voiced Manny/El Tigre and Frida respectively. Together with Bauza and Alazraqui they will be taking on the role of a group of evil gods.
- Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna, Kate del Castillo, and Gabriel Iglesias previously lent their voices to Maria, Manolo, La Muerte and Pepé in The Book of Life.
- Real-Life Relative: King and Queen Teca are voiced by real-life husband and wife, Jorge Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua.
- Word of God:
- Gutierrez likes to think that Maria is Maya's descendant. Even better given they are both voiced by Zoe Saldana.
- Jorge revealed on his Twitter that Lord Mictlan is one of Xibalba’s brothers.
- He also revealed that Lady Micte is one of La Muerte’s sisters.
- Jorge gave confirmation to a fan’s theory that Manolo and María are the reincarnations of Zatz and Maya.
- Zatz felt awful when he heard of Acat's death.
- Gutierrez revealed in an Instagram AMA that Zyanya (Zatz's mother) is of Barbarian ancestry. Specifically, she's from an opposing tribe to Picchu's.
- Jorge confirmed another fan's theory that Joaquin is the reincarnation of Acat.
- According to Gutierrez, Zatz is actually the Puma Warrior, not Picchu. He pointed out that only Maya and "the three" got A Minor Kidroduction flashbacks, and Picchu's flashback showed him already as an adult, while Zatz was shown as an infant.
- Write What You Know:
- Per usual, Jorge Gutierrez tells yet another story based on Mexican culture, being Mexican American himself.
- Jorge Gutierrez wrote Maya with the women in his life in mind, seeing them as strong women, as well as compensating for the lack of female heroes in media when he was growing up.
- Ah Puch was inspired by the abuelas that Gutierrez knew from Michoacán.
- Acat's aesthetic was based on the Mexican American chicano and chola cultures that Gutierrez and Equihua grew up with around Tijuana.
- Rico's speech impediment was also inspired by Jorge Gutierrez being on the autism spectrum, showing that one's weaknesses can ultimately be their strengths.
