    Main Game
  • Just the concept of the game itself: you're not playing a security guard making a measly few bucks anymore, but instead a child trapped in a giant arcade/amusement park, pursued by a rabbit-costumed serial killer trying to finish him off for good. The normally friendly animatronics are after him, the other robots rat him out to the other pursuers, and the only adult in the building, who should have been the first to help Gregory, may be in on it as well. No wonder Gregory is so desperate and angry — he just wants to get out of the Pizzaplex, but he's also so helpless and alone until he meets Freddy.
    • And that's not even getting into the implication that Gregory might be a homeless child. Probably the easiest child to target, because who'll miss him?
  • At first glance, the relationship between the animatronics and the staff is more equal than the usual robot-to-human-relations, speaking to each other like coworkers. But when you look more closely, the relationship is surface-level at best: Vanessa's tone when she first speaks to Freddy is more like a parent berating a child for their failure, both because he ruined the show after his malfunction, and because he disobeyed her orders to stay on lockdown in his green room. And when Vanessa confronts Freddy in Parts & Services for helping Gregory avoid security, she yells at him and leaves him to be dismantled by the staff in the morning, when it's clear that's the last thing Freddy wants.
  • Freddy still believes in his fellow animatronics' innocence. Even as they try to harm Gregory, Freddy defends them by saying that something must be wrong if they are willing to harm a guest. Gregory, meanwhile, is perfectly willing to destroy said friends to get the upgrades Freddy needs, justifying that "they get what they deserve", even downplaying the incidents to Freddy (and outright not saying anything regarding Monty) when he asks about the upgrades. The poor bear is horrified whenever he awakens from maintenance, instantly recognizing that he's had one of his friends' parts installed in him.
    • Depending on the order the Glamrock Band is defeated in, you are entreated to the painful and gradual process of Freddy going from cheerful and naïve to disillusioned and grimly resolved. Beat Monty first, and Freddy seems altogether blissfully unaware of what's really happened, allowing Gregory to dodge the issue completely. Get Roxy's eyes second, and this time, Gregory lets slip where the eyes came from when he mentions that apparently Roxy could see through walls, leaving Freddy shocked, mortified and concerned about her, and forcing Gregory to, at least partially, be direct. Get Chica's voicebox last, and you see a very weathered, beaten, and scuffed Freddy drop all pretence, state outright that this was his friend's, and very quietly instruct Gregory to tell him the truth. He's not angry, he's not alarmed, he's well beyond all of that now, and he knows Gregory did what was needed to survive, but his tone is serious. All he wants to know at this point is if the monster he once called his friend is still alive or not. And Gregory was not honest with him, as while the accidents — like what happened to Roxy in the raceway — happened, he left out the fact that he was the one who caused them, by setting a trap to incapacitate Monty, crashing into Roxy and pushing Chica to get crushed. It makes you wonder; what would Freddy say if he found out it was Gregory who destroyed his friends? You can tell it would devastate him.
    • Just in general, there's a melancholy irony to the fact that Fazbear Entertainment had finally done it. If Freddy is any indication, they had finally managed to make a generation of animatronics that — beyond the possibility of freaking out and turning hostile during repairs — were neither murderous nor vaguely malevolent. With the curse lifted, this generation is the way they're supposed to be: Freddy is not just superficially caring, he's intelligent and sapient and chooses to be kind. He barely understands violence, and wants to take care of and help others any way he can. And according to him, the other animatronics are supposed to be the same: if the way Freddy regards Vanessa is any indication, it even extends to security staff. This generation would really have been true friends and role models… until Vanny and Glitchtrap came along, and twisted them right back into tools for murder anyway.
    • It doesn't get better for them in the True Ending, either. Forced to attack Gregory via Burntrap's powers, once he's able to survive their onslaught and light Afton on fire enough times, the whole underground pizzeria starts coming down around them. Gregory and Freddy are shown making it out relatively unharmed, while William is spirited away by The Blob, leaving both of their fates up in the air. But the other animatronics? Chances are, once the place came down on them, they either got crushed by the debris or buried until their battery runs out, their remains forever hidden from being dug up. It's a pitiable end to these thinking machines; used by Afton and Vanny for their plans and abandoned with the rest of Pizzaplex.
      • Fortunately, however, this seems to have been subverted with this teaser, which shows Chica still alive, if looking worse for wear. So it might not be too late for her and the others yet...
  • The animatronics clearly have things going on with them, aside from the whole "programmed-to-kill-a-kid" issue:
    • Roxy has self-confidence issues. The first time we see her in the vents, she's staring into her mirror, complimenting herself and calling herself "the best". The next time we see her do this, she's crying, barely holding it together, and if you go in her room with Freddy, she'll order him to get out of her room. Then, during her boss fight, she's hit by a go-kart and her eyes are stolen by Gregory. Saying that she is not happy with this is an understatement. It's not hard to feel bad for her when she's crying as she's unable to see. She even has Dummied Out voicelines showing her anger at losing her eyes.
Roxy: My face. My face! MY FACE!!! RAAAGH!!! Give me back my eyes!
      • And while Roxy does insult Gregory while hunting him, it's implied/speculated she might really be projecting. If that's true, then that means that among other things, Roxy doesn't believe anybody would miss her if she was gone, which would make her decommissioning even worse.
"Everyone still loves me... right?" "I'm not a loser..."
    • Monty has some anger issues, smashing and banging things in his room, to the point where his attraction is closed off initially due to "maintenance". If Gregory chooses to go into Gator Golf, he suffers the worst injuries out of the three — having his entire bottom half and arms severed, rendering him completely unable to follow Gregory afterwards, although he can still attack him if he gets too close to him. Even Chica and Roxy are intact enough to remain viable threats despite their "decommissionings" being absolutely brutal compared to Monty's.
    • Chica will eat anything, including garbage, even though she's a robot that can't and shouldn't be eating that stuff. Even the staff have noted that the garbage is ruining her insides. It also comes back to bite her during her boss encounter — she is baited into eating a pile of garbage underneath the trash compactor, and then gets pushed by Gregory into the compactor, crushing her down.
    • Sun, while probably one of the nicest of the bunch, doesn't realize that he's too zany, clingy, and overly-hyperactive to be a caretaker for infantsinvoked. But then he becomes a nervous, screaming wreck whenever he mentions the lights. Why is he scared of the lights going off, you may ask? Well, when they go off, he turns into his Moon form, obsessed with punishing kids that stay up past their bedtime. Both of them scarred one child so badly that they can't sleep with the lights off, and wet their pants when they are on. What's even worse? The fact that he's scared of his Moon form indicates that he's fully aware of his Moon form's actions and hates every part of it. No wonder the first thing he does after the lights come back on is ban Gregory from the daycare because he accidentally breaks this rule.
    • DJ Music Man is supposed to be a "nice fellow", according to Freddy. That's not the animatronic we get when we finally meet him for the first time.
    • Even Freddy isn't immune to this. He starts out friendly and helpful, if a bit oblivious to what's happening around him, but over time, becomes disillusioned and heartbroken over the course of the game. By the time the endings come around, Freddy is willing to commit murder and arson to protect Gregory.
  • After mutilating Chica, Roxanne, and Monty, they appear to be very aware of how much damage has been done to them. Roxanne can be heard crying as she searches, desperately reassuring herself that she's still beautiful and just needs some work done. If alerted to Gregory's presence, she goes into a rage, screaming "Why? WHY?!". Chica won't give audio cues that she's approaching, and if she can't find Gregory for a while, she'll start trembling and sobbing, despite the missing voice box. And while Monty isn't the crying type, he's clearly suffering too: blasting him with the Fazerblaster or Fazcam (weapons which he was previously immune to thanks to his shades) produces an agonized wail of pain from the gator.
    • The worst part is that, contrary to popular conception, they aren't going to get repaired at the end if the message about Chica's weakness is any indication - it straight up says that if she gets crushed by it, she will be replaced. And Monty and Roxy are just as badly damaged, so who's to say FazEnt is cheap as to give up on them and start over fresh too? That's right, the shiny, spiffy Monty, Chica, and Roxy that we see in the van ending's newspaper? They in all likelihood weren't our glamrocks. They've been left to suffer while new robots take over their identities. In many ways, that's even worse then if the damage they sustained had killed them.
  • When you finally reach the doors at 6 a.m., before you make your choices, Freddy treats you with one of the most heart-breaking farewells, telling Gregory to go and don't return to the Pizzaplex so that he will be safe, sadly putting a hand on his shoulder. You can tell from his tone and expression that he has come to deeply care for Gregory and is heartbroken to see him leave, possibly the last time he will ever see him. If you choose to stay, he sounds really relieved.
    • Another layer is in that Gregory pointedly asks that, should he leave, if there'll just be more kids going missing after. Freddy doesn't even speculate or try to say there's a chance things will get better — he admits after some hesitation that, yes, there assuredly will be after this. Once Gregory's gone, Freddy will be all alone in this place, knowing that he's working among killers and predators targeting the very children they're meant to care for and be friends to, unable to ever change it and knowing that the three he's playing with are no longer his friends, but monsters putting on an act. His only chance to put everything right is Gregory, but he can't ask this poor boy to endanger himself more than he already has.
  • The endings range from bittersweet to heartbreakingly tragic.
    • The one-star ending: Gregory escapes from the Pizzaplex, but he's forced to leave Freddy behind in tears and ends up sleeping outside in a cardboard box, sleeping under a newspaper spread, as a shadow of a familiar rabbit creeps up on him in his sleep…
    • The two-star endings:
      • One ending has Freddy confronted by Vanny's legion of security robots, who she sics onto him, tearing him apart. After Gregory does the same to Vanny, he goes to Freddy, there to say goodbye as Freddy pats his head before shutting down for good. Gregory has to watch as Freddy, the best friend he has ever had, the only animatronic that wasn't out for his blood, his surrogate dad, dies in front of him. He died as he lived, protecting Gregory. His final line is also downright heartbreaking.
        Freddy: Gregory...you are...my superstar...
      • Another ending has Freddy sacrifice himself again, but this time in a more badass way — he takes a bunch of plushies, sets them on fire, and then runs upstairs to the roof to confront Vanny, who he can now see with Roxy's eyes. He throws himself and Vanny off the roof, losing his life in the process, leaving Gregory to unmask Vanny as Vanessa.
Freddy: (as he's falling off the roof) Goodbye, Gregory...
      • The true ending: while Freddy and Gregory make it out okay, Vanny is nowhere to be seen, giving the implication that she may still be out there somewhere, still influenced by Afton — with the main alternative being that Afton offed her himself. In fact, talking about Afton, since we don't actually see him die (again) in the ending, there may still be a chance that he's still alive… making everything that Henry and Michael did in Pizzeria Simulator all for naught.
      • Finally, there's an ending where Gregory and Freddy manage to escape the Pizzaplex in a Pizzaplex van, but Freddy is not able to go far before his batteries run out. Luckily, Gregory is able to jumpstart Freddy's batteries, and they get to ride off into the sunrise.
    • The three-star ending: While Gregory manages to get out and Vanessa is freed from Glitchtrap's influence, Freddy is still just a head. Though this is the only ending where all three of them survive; either Freddy, Vanessa, or both of them die in the others.
      • To get this ending, Gregory has to play all three Princess Quest arcade cabinets, in order. It's obvious that the princess in the game is Vanessa, the game being her struggle to fight Glitchtrap's influence. Even the final cabinet makes that explicit.
  • Vanny/Vanessa, when she isn't a copycat killer, is a Child Hater who talks to Gregory with pure frustration and disdain. That said, the Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery emails and the Princess Quest games heavily imply she used to be a decent person before Glitchtrap entered her life and twisted her the way he has. And yet, there's only one ending that unambiguously turns out well for her.
    • The one-star ending reveals at least 9 people have disappeared in the area, which is likely at least partly the result of Vanny. Not only is she still being used as a murder weapon by proxy, but she's possibly more "successful" than William was when he was alive. This ending also implies she's about to add one more victim in the form of Gregory.
    • If Gregory and Freddy decide to face Vanny head-on inside the Fazerblast arena, she has the S.T.A.F.F. bots rip Freddy to shreds. Gregory can then use the same control to have them then "disassemble" her. Vanessa A.'s last moments are in pain and terror as she gets ruthlessly torn apart, having never fully regained her senses.
    • Her fate is unaccounted for in the apparent true ending, which raises four possibilities. Either she was Killed Offscreen in the destruction, was freed from Glitchtrap's control and somehow escaped, was freed from Glitchtrap's control and then killed by Afton, or, the worst possibility, he still has control over her.
    • One ending has Freddy, upon being able to see her with Roxanne's eyes, tackling her off a building, killing them both on impact. Once again, she is not given the dignity of dying as herself and instead is unmasked after death by Gregory, who will likely never know why she did the things she did. And then there's the after-credit scene, where we see the burning Pizzaplex... and another Vanessa. We don't find out what exactly this means, but given the nature of souls in the series, it is likely that the second Vanessa is actually her spirit. After dying, Vanessa’s soul is effectively trapped within the Pizzaplex. She’s looking down at her own body.
    • Tying into the above, the Golden Ending is unambiguously the best for Vanessa. Gregory uncovers the secret in the Princess Quest arcade cabinets to find where Glitchtrap imprisoned her consciousness and sets her free. Vanessa discards her Vanny guise, shuts down the S.T.A.F.F. units, and takes her leave with Gregory and a body-deprived Freddy. Given her troubled history since being a part of the VR game, Vanessa likely has nothing to return to, thus allowing her to begin a new life with the evidently-orphan Gregory... Except this ending is in comic panels too. Gregory could have uncovered the secret of Vanessa's imprisonment. He could have used the clues left behind by the patron investigating the Princess Quest games. He could have found the final in her room and completed the sequence to set her free. Gregory could have saved Vanessa. But in truth, he didn't. He and Freddy make their leave in preventing Afton's return, never knowing how close they'd been to someone who desperately needed their help.
  • Tapes can be found that contain recordings of therapy sessions of what seem to be Vanessa, and in some of them, it seems that Vanny is involved. But each CD found contain contradictory facts. In one session, Vanessa likes the curtains open, and in another one, she states that she hates dark spaces, while Vanny wants them closed and likes dark spaces as seen in another therapy session. She will like candy in one session, but in another, Vanessa is not interested in candy. In either case, we find out that Vanessa's parents divorced, and she was ordered by her father to lie to the court about her mother being crazy, so that the father could take full custody. This seems to have impacted her more than she's willing to admit. She not only never establishes rapport with any of her therapists, but they either go missing or die in mysterious ways, implying that either she's killing them because they get too close to the truth or Glitchtrap is killing anyone who could possibly intervene. The final kicker comes in towards the end, in which her latest therapist does research into her background and confronts her on a major inconsistency: Vanessa did not have an Abusive Dad who made her testify against her mother during a custody battle and her childhood was as happy as you can get. Since the name she used for her father was "Bill," either Vanessa was making it up entirely, was trying to talk about Glitchtrap in a way an unfamiliar person would understand, or, the scariest possibility, Glitchtrap somehow gave her Fake Memories of trauma and abuse.
    • However, the newest "Tales from the Pizzaplex" book seems to imply that the therapy patient believed to be Vanny is actually Gregory, though the patient seems very different from the character we know. YouTube theorist RyeToast theorized that Gregory was possessed by Glitchtrap prior to the events of the game and the reason why he stammers over his own name when meeting Freddy is because he's recently been freed from Glitchtrap's control and is disoriented.
  • Glamrock Freddy cares so deeply for Gregory's safety, yet there are three cases (staying inside him when his battery runs out, failing the Simon Says Minigame in the Parts and Service room, or letting Afton hack him in the finale) where his programming forces him, against his will, to attack and kill the poor child.
    • The jumpscare sound, which sounds like a woman or a child screaming mixed to a robotic roar, is always bloodcurdling, but it's even more heartbreaking in Freddy's jumpscare when he runs out of battery power. You can imagine Gregory's terror at being forcefully taken out of Freddy's chest compartment and killed by the one individual in the building he trusted...
    • While it's not clear what exactly happens after the animatronics jumpscare Gregory, it's easy to imagine that Glamrock Freddy would regain control of himself after the jumpscare and see what he had done to Gregory
    • And it's even worse if this happens in the final battle: Burntrap tries to corrupt Freddy to make him kill Gregory, and you have to press the button on the desk to set him on fire when he appears. After a while, though, Freddy won't be able to control himself anymore and will chase after you, killing you if you try to hide in his chest cavity or if he catches you. And his voice has a sense of urgency when Burntrap begins to corrupt him. If he does kill you after being corrupted, Burntrap may have done that to make him kill Gregory, the child he was so close to, to make him suffer before sending the others to finish him off.
  • If Freddy happens to be within range of the FazCam going off, he has voicelines expressing his shock and pain.
  • It's been made clear that Freddy deeply misses the scrapped Glamrock Bonnie. When Gregory says he saw a rabbit (Vanny), Freddy sadly says that the PizzaPlex doesn't have a rabbit anymore. If you try to take Freddy to Bonnie Bowl and go to Glamrock Bonnie's old stage, he will give this sad comment.
"I do not come up here anymore… I miss him."
    • What's even sadder is the implications that Monty killed Bonnie to take his spot, and might even do the same to Freddy. Assuming this is true, that means Freddy is friends with and defends the innocence of the guy who killed his best friend, and would do the same to him just to be the main star of the PizzaPlex.
      • On the (somewhat) brighter side, if you believe that Monty really did murder Bonnie before being brainwashed, then that will likely nullify the above entries regarding Monty and what happens to him.
    • Freddy mourning Bonnie makes even more sense to the ones that are familiar with the timeline, although that makes the whole thing even sadder. Freddy and Bonnie have always been Those Two Guys. Even in the very first restaurant, Fredbear's Family Diner, it's been a bear and a rabbit. They were always a duo, probably best friends and maybe even considered themselves brothers, and now Bonnie is dead.
      • Freddy isn't even the only one who misses Bonnie. If you explore Glamrock Chica's green room, there's a bowling ball inside. Freddy keeps one in his green room as well. They keep them in tribute of their lost friend.
    • Hell, the very fact that Bonnie and Foxy aren't here. The ones that have been there since August 8th, 2014, the very beginning of the series, and appeared in every single installment beforehand, are just gone.
      • Whatever happened to Foxy, it's almost certainly left its own mark on Roxanne's Inferiority Superiority Complex. She's either a Replacement Goldfish that Fazbear Entertainment shoved into Foxy's role, meaning that she's dealing with being a new face taking the place of a long-beloved franchise character, or she's a version of Foxy that was changed to appeal more to the new generation, swapping out pirates for rock and roll, which would be a major change to someone's identity on the basis that keeping them as-is would mean that they'd be out-of-date otherwise. Either way, she's clearly affected by the legacy of one of the longest-running characters.
  • If Gregory takes Freddy to Parts and Services where the former found the security card, the latter has an existential crisis when he sees the endoskeletons, all of which look the same, growing increasingly distressful as he realizes that he may not be so unique after all. For Freddy's own sake, Gregory quickly abandons the topic and tries to get him out of there before they look too much into it.
Freddy: I have never been allowed in here before. This must be where I was born. Look at all the endos... they are all the same. Have I always been a Freddy? Am I Monty with a different shell? What if I am not the first Glamrock Freddy? Are there more of me at other pizzerias? Do we all feel the same? Am I special? If I am mass-produced, am I still art...?

    Ruin DLC
  • The final location you visit in Bonnie Bowl is Glamrock Bonnie's green room; the decor there shows that Freddy's fondness for the rabbit was entirely mutual. Bonnie's makeup desk has a figurine and a plushie of Freddy, while the entrance to Fazer Blast is covered by a signed Freddy poster with the below inscription. And the place is tucked away, having only been used for storage for who knows how long...
"YOU & ME FOREVER & EVER — LOVE, FREDDY"
  • The Glamrock Animatronics look like, appropriately enough, long-suffering shells of their former selves, having to fend for themselves in the ruins of the Pizzaplex as their own personality flaws and extensive untreated damage essentially drive them into maddened frenzies. Chica's eating disorder has left her covered in filth and stuffed full of rot, Monty has gone feral and lashes out at anyone that moves, and Roxy spends her time either locked in the hair salon trying to care for herself, or blindly charging about looking for the child who stole her eyes.
    • But the big tearjerker of it is that while Chica and Monty act mindlessly, Roxy is still aware enough to be horrified with herself when she realizes that she isn't just hurting a child - she's hurting one of her fans, as Cassie is a girl she knows by name, voice, and even memorized her birthday. And it's likely everyone else in the band had all had children like that. All of them were just entertainer robots meant to help children have a fun time, and they'll more than likely never get to have that again.
  • This might not be true, but the idea is tearjerking enough. When you are caught by Prototype Freddy, he shoves you into his stomach hatch, which has jagged, teeth-like pieces around the edges. The tearjerker is this: that's how Freddy would hide Gregory in Security Breach. Freddy's behavior in the dlc goes against this theory, but what if, even without his head, Freddy wants to protect Cassie as well? He just doesn't realize the damage to his stomach hatch would be more harmful to her.
  • To open the last Node to enter the sinkhole, Gregory instructs Cassie to disable Roxy. Before then, the two have a pretty sweet heart-to-heart, and Roxy actually remembers Cassie from a previous visit. After she's disabled, poor Cassie is heartbroken and is audibly crying on her way down into the Pizzeria Simulator location. Fortunately, it's not enough to end Roxy for good, as she shows up again to help deal with Mimic.
    • The last of Roxy's recollection lines stings for a whole other reason: "I'm sure your friends will show up this time." Roxy is honestly trying to reassure Cassie about that, implying that when Cassie did have her birthday party at the Pizzaplex, Roxy was the only other one there.
    • What makes this moment even worse is that when Cassie gets ready to deactivate her, Roxy looks at Cassie and asks her what she's doing. The tone of her voice, the small shake of her head and the look on her face in the AR world make it clear that she realizes and is absolutely terrified of what happens next. Cassie didn't just shut down her favourite star, she betrayed Roxy while she was just trying to comfort her. And yet, Roxy still shows up later to rescue her.
  • Sun and Moon went off the deep end after the Pizzeria fell into disrepair. While Moon is still the same as ever and tries to "punish" Cassie as soon as he sees her, Sun is desperately trying to stop Moon from harming her and is constantly wrestling control away from him, and is pleading to Cassie to help via rebooting him. While in AR, Sun is heard singing a lullaby in an attempt to calm himself, but his voice sounds moments away from breaking into tears, and the lyrics devolve into a lament on his situation and inability to actually help kids.
    • While rebooting Sun and Moon into Eclipse is heartwarming, Eclipse clearly hasn't been active for a long time; he believes the PizzaPlex is still open and that he needs to fix the Daycare for the kids that will come tomorrow, unaware the place has been left to rot. The joy in his voice mixed with the reality of the situation adds a bittersweet sting to the whole thing.
  • The Ruin DLC's normal ending reveals that everything Cassie's been through in the game was All for Nothing. The Gregory Cassie's been trying to find turns out to be an impostor emulating Gregory's voice who tries to kill her as soon as she frees it. Even with Roxy's help, Cassie barely escapes the Mimic with her life. And to make a bad situation worse, when Cassie takes the elevator back up to the surface, the real Gregory chimes in, reassuring her by saying it wasn't her fault that the Mimic tricked her, but that the Mimic still can't be allowed to escape. Cassie only gets a moment to process this before Gregory cuts the elevator lines, leaving Cassie to either die or face a Fate Worse than Death.
  • According to the backstory that Fazbear Entertainment gave Monty, he was simply a fan of the band, watching it perform one of it's concerts. Then Bonnie passed the torch by giving Monty his bass guitar, after which the other Glamrocks helped style him into the gator he was. Now he's completely lost his mind and gone feral, lashing out at anything he deems a threat. To see someone like that fall so low is not just horrifying, it's depressing. It goes double if you believe that Monty personally decommissioned Bonnie, as it means Fazbear Entertainment covered up the truth (yet again) by making them look more amicable than they actually were.
  • If you deactivate all the wet floor bots, one last one appears at Bonnie Bowl, and if you deactivate that, a hidden room is unlocked and there is where Glamrock Bonnie's final resting place is. He's lying in pieces with huge claw marks gouging his chest, surrounded by four more wet floor bots, almost as if they're in mourning. And what's worse is the implication that Bonnie is still active, as his eyes are glowing, and only when the last four wet floor bots are deactivated do the lights go out in them.
    • This also goes back to the aforementioned backstory about how Monty replaced Bonnie: if this was a coverup, bad enough. If the backstory is true and Monty decommissioned Bonnie anyway, that makes Monty more of a monster than we thought (and an Ungrateful Bastard, to boot).
  • Given the aforementioned comment from Roxy about Cassie's friends showing up 'this time' and cutouts in the AR world of Gregory comforting her, it's easy to infer that Gregory is Cassie's Only Friend, which goes a long way to explain why she's willing to risk her life so much to find him. It also makes Gregory's actions at the end that much worse for Cassie as now she thinks her friend left her to die. And it might not even be true: there's a theory that the Mimic hijacked the intercom to trick Cassie one last time and cut the elevator cables.
