- "At the Gala" is even more obviously "Ever After" from Into the Woods.
- The piece of ballet music used in "Sonic Rainboom" and "The Show Stoppers" is a riff on the Swan Lake waltz.
- The show also does a few homages to Star Wars endings of all things. "Friendship is Magic, part 2: Elements of Harmony" ends with a suspiciously similar version of "Augie's Great Municipal Band" and "Return of Harmony, Part 2" ends with a homage to A New Hope's ending, the music of which fits quite well with.
- The latter is a double example, as the fanfare portion sounds remarkably similar to "Arrival To Earth" from Transformers, of all things.
- The scene where the sun is setting in "Lesson Zero" has a suspiciously similar Version of the "Dream is Collapsing" theme from Inception.
- And in the scene immediately following, The Princess' Speech is emphasized by music from... The King's Speech.
- "Find a Pet" is a take on "Fabulous Places" from the 1967 Doctor Dolittle (fittingly, considering who sings it).
- The music playing at Iron Will's seminar in "Putting Your Hoof Down" is actually "Eye of the Tiger" with one note changed.
- In the same episode, when Fluttershy realizes she's become a monster, the Lonely Man theme from The Incredible Hulk (1977) starts playing.
- During the scene in the episode "It's About Time" where Twilight Sparkle meets a future version of herself, the background music is suspiciously similar to "I am the Doctor" from Series 5 and 6 of Doctor Who.
- "One Bad Apple" features an A-Team Montage while the CMC are building the second float, down to the music.
- A parody of the Bonanza theme is often used in scenes relating to the Apple family.
- The Cloudsdale anthem from "Equestria Games" sounds an awful lot like The Canada Song from Mystery Science Theater 3000.
- "Becoming Popular (The Pony Everypony Should Know)" resembles Madonna's "Holiday".
- In "The Best Night Ever", since "Hokey Pokey" is still copyrighted in the USA (as of the time of its release, it's in the public domain internationally), "Pony Pokey" uses a tweaked melody instead.
- The Winter Wrap-Up song from the episode of the same name is rather similar to the Sherbet Land music from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, which may have inspired KingSpartaX37 to mash up the two songs.
- The chorus of "I've Got to Find A Way" sounds like a slowed-down rendition of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (I'm Coming Home)": "Losing promise, I don't know what do/Seeking answers, I feel I won't get through to you." The song overall also resembles "Heavenly Star" by Genki Rockets.
- Pinkie the Party Planner was intentionally based on "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast.
- Pinkie's Lament from the same episode, likewise, was intentionally based on "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from Evita, complete with a balcony scene.
- "Morning in Ponyville" is an obvious homage to "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma!.
- The Cutie Mark Crusaders' theme song from The Show Stoppers is a pastiche of Cutting Crew's "Died In Your Arms"(bassline, rhythm and guitar solos) and Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For a Hero"(melody). The piano intro is similar to Heart's "Alone" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'".
- In "Party of One", Gummy's birthday song sounds similar to "In Da Club" by 50 Cent.
- The music during Fluttershy's Training Montage in Hurricane Fluttershy is a soundalike of Joe Esposito's "You're The Best" from The Karate Kid (1984).
- The Flim Flam Brothers song is a near-direct parody of "Ya Got Trouble" from The Music Man, down to the "Cider! Cider! Cider!" chanting in place of "Trouble! Trouble! Trouble!".
- At the beginning of Luna Eclipsed, and in Princess Twilight Sparkle, Part 1 when Fluttershy is trying to calm her panicked animals, a cue similar to "In the Halls of the Mountain King" plays.
- The chorus of the Cutie Mark Crusaders' song "Babs Seed" from One Bad Apple is this for "Bad Boys", the COPS theme song, and the Babs Seed song in its entirety is a sound-alike for Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Good Time".
- Rainbow Dash's "I'll Fly" from Tanks for the Memories is based on "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, and has a lyrical shoutout with the line "Nopony's gonna bring me down". It's also been compared to Frozen's "Let it Go".
- From the same episode, the music when RD is sneaking through the Weather Factory sounds like a mix of the Mission: Impossible theme and WoodenToaster's "Rainbow Factory".
- If the transformation song in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep was any closer to the one from season 1 of Sailor Moon, they'd be paying royalties.
- The first opening theme of the Japanese dub, "Mirai Start", is suspiciously similar to "Love ♥ Shine" from DanceDanceRevolution.
- The Magic Inside from The Mane Attraction resembles Kelly Clarkson's American Idol winner's single "A Moment Like This".
- Most likely unintentional, but in the main theme's rock section, the words "My Little Pony" are pretty much sung to the tune of the chorus of Go Go Power Rangers, minus a note and shifted down a key.
- The song of the same name from the "Music To My Ears" short bears resemblence to K Drew's "Bullseye".
- "This Day Aria" appropriately resembles "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from The Little Mermaid.
- "A Changeling Can Change" is (possibly intentionally) similar to "When Christmas Comes to Town" from The Polar Express. Also, "We Got This Together" from MLP: The Movie 2017 resembles "Hot Chocolate".
- Possibly as an intentional Mythology Gag, "One Small Thing" from the movie sounds like "Call Upon The Seaponies" from "Rescue at Midnight Castle" mixed with "Merroway Cove" from Sofia the First.
- "Off to See the World" from the first trailer for the movie has a hook similar to the aforementioned "Eye of the Tiger".
- "The Cutie Mark Crusaders Go Crusading, first heard in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles," resembles the Martin Solveig/Dragonette song "Hello", both in the main hook shared between the songs, and their use of the clapping to keep rhythm.
- "Last Year I Got Coal for Christmas" from the It's a Pony Kind of Christmas album is a clear take on the novelty record "Nuttin' for Christmas", with the narrator singing about bad things he did that ruined his Christmas.
- The 2017 movie's original opening number, "Equestria", is similar to Frozen (2013)'s also-rejected prologue song, "We Know Better", as well as the actual intro theme, "Vuelie".
