Shout Out / They Talk

"How about our new show, They Talk? It's got more meta references than a Deadpool speech!"
Ghostface, discussing this "unoriginal show" that Neve Campbell is very disappointed in.

This series is full of references to other media from the word go, with nearly every scene containing at least one joke about an actor's history.

Intro (Yes, even the opening is filled to the brim with Shout Outs)

• The first five seconds contain a smorgasbord of detail in the trashcan target of Zoran's Wastebasket Ball.
  • Some of the papers are nods to YouTube videos Zoran has worked on, from a sketch for "Social Mediasochist Babies" and a script for "Unhealthy Doug's^note A common character in Zoran's work Sausage Seder".
  • Scripts for "A Very Scary Crite-Mas" and "Tremors: Another ANOTHER TV Show."
  • Tickets for "Killer Klowns: Live in Concert!"
  • The Beast's head poking out in the top left.
  • A folder addressed to Jigsaw.
• Behind the couch Zoran is sitting on is a poster for Ice Cream Man.
• While flicking through films, Michael Myers is dressed like Shrek, Austin Powers, and Wayne Edwards, three characters played by the similarly named actor Mike Myers.
• Jason's gift to his mother's head contains a Freddy Krueger doll.
• During the final closeup on Zoran's eyes, in addition to the three killers the opening focuses on, Leslie Vernon can be seen reflected in Zoran's peepers.

Friday the 13th Part 3

• A Lampshaded one: Jason pulls a The Name Is Bond, James Bond right before killing Vera, pointing out that it was a Sean Connery impression and killing her in retaliation for not finding it funny.
• Before killing Chuck, Jason mistakes him for a character from Evil Bong and threatens to put him in a Jigsaw style trap.
• Jason makes a "Here's Johnny!" Homage when throwing Rick through the window.
• Chris’s stabbing has Jason imitate the memetic Family Guy knee injury scene, as the subtitles confirm.
• While getting hanged, Jason namedrops a character from Fortnite, comparing his neck to hers.
• Jason verbatims references Luke, I Am Your Father while killing Ali.
• After Chris puts an axe into his head, Jason quotes “Feeling woozy here” from Scream (1996), again lampshading the reference afterwards.
• In the final scene, Chris runs into Kermit the Frog, who gets her arrested before singing a Rainbow Connection parody.

Scream

• Ghostface’s trivia questions for Barrymore, fittingly for the film the episode is based on, are all about movies.
  • Ghostface’s first question about a 90s slasher movie: Popcorn.
  • His second question: The Love Guru, with Barrymore shouting in anguish when Ghostface tells her about a rumored sequel.
  • His final question is about Mallrats, with Barrymore mixing up Jason and Jeremy London.
• When Barrymore mentions she’s about to watch a scary movie, Ghostface takes it literally and assumes she’s talking about Scary Movie.
• Ghostface namedrops Jigsaw during a rant about how he did “I wanna play a game” first.
• As Barrymore hides behind a TV, an episode of Awkward. is just finishing up and a trailer for Scream: The TV Series is about to play, causing Barrymore to unplug it.
• Fitting for an episode filled with Adam Sandler references, Campbell gets a (failed) prank call from a scene from Billy Madison.
• As seen above, Ghostface name drops Deadpool before attacking Campbell.
• When McGowan mentions “psycho killers”, Ghostface calls out Talking Heads, who made a song by that name.
• Impressed by a garage door holding McGowan’s weight, Ghostface praises Tim the Toolman Taylor and makes “Dated Tim Allen Grunt sounds”.
• Annoyed at Neve kicking him in the face, Ghostface tells her to “knock it off, Liu Kang”.

Predator

• The Jungle Predator's Establishing Character Moment is him singing Long Tall Sally.
• While hanging Rick's body, the Predator starts singing The Coasters's Yakety Yak, replacing the end of the first verse with "I killed Shane Black!"
• The Predator's drugs are named after aliens from other media: Mork-screw, Oxy-Krypton, Ewok-otine, PCP Mac and Me, and Xenomorphine.
• A Fortnite "teammate down" sound effect plays when the Predator falls out of a tree.
• At Arnold's (accidental) request, the final battle has a short snippet from C'mon.
• The ending song is a parody of Halleluiah.

Happy Death Day

• Babyface name drops The Hills Run Red when noting the similarity to another Babyface.
• Babyface’s teacher is Professor Krueger and her dean is the Crypt Keeper.
• Jessica Nigri is namedropped as a comparison to Babyface’s lack of costuming skills.
• Babyface’s bedroom contains a collection of references
  • Posters on her wall include Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Disturbia, Another Day in Paradise, and the clocktower newspaper from Back to the Future.
  • Among the clutter on her bedside table are the Necronomicon and a Mystery Science Theater 3000 VHS.
  • A later shot reveals a poster for Tremors and the sports almanac from Back to the Future Part II.
• Babyface name drops Palm Springs when she realizes Tree is repeating what she said in their last encounter.
• Babyface’s Pre-Mortem One-Liner in the frat party involves "Assassin's Weed".
• The song Babyface sings in Tree’s shower is a parody of Wayne Newton’s Danke Schoën.
• After coming out to attack Tree, a few Dirty Dancing references are made with her quoting "I've Had the Time of My Life" and declaring that "Nobody puts Baby(face) in the corner."
• The Blissfield Butcher drops in to interrupt during Babyface’s final kill. After he leaves, Babyface talks about Vince’s previous work, including Deadballs, Wedding Slashers, and Psycho (1998).

Halloween

• The "Barenaked Ladies ripoff" Michael complains about is Common Shiner's Social Medasochist.
• The song playing at the asylum is a parody of I Don't Want to Miss a Thing. The final line, "My name is McMurphy," is a nod to the protagonist of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
• Michael quotes "Annie, are you OK? Are you OK Annie?" when he overhears Laurie asking about her.
• Michael quotes the trope namer for Speak Friend and Enter as he breaks into a closet Laurie is hiding in.

Trick 'r Treat

• The whole episode is a parody of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! named "How Sam Saved Halloween."
• The mascot for Thanksgiving is shown to be Turkey.
• The kids walking past Emma's house discuss Bill Paxton and Bill Pullman movies, one quizzing the other on who was in what.

• A very confused narrator talks about how Mr Kreeg "entered The Shining" when he sees the bloody words on his bedroom walls.
• Mr Kreeg's fall down the stairs is described as him tumbling down "like an Exorcist priest".
• The "Mean One" parody song describes Sam as "Cuddly as a Critter" and "Stabby as a Voorhees."
• Sam's wandering hand sings a short snippet of The Addams Family theme song, says he was an actor in The Hand, and makes a "Groovy" joke when reattached to Sam.

Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter

• When being brought into a hospital, Jason mentions a list of fictional hospitals as he tries to guess where he was brought. In all, he names Sacred Heart, Seattle Grace, Princeton-Plainsboro, Chicago Hope, St Eligius, Taco Bellevue, and County General^note A 2005 comedy. Grey’s Anatomy comes up again as part of Jason’s Post-Mortem One-Liner as he kills a nurse.
• A nurse watches Beverly Hills Cop with a noticeable crush on Eddie Murphy’s character, and Axel is seen watching The Shining shortly afterwards.
• The teens listen to a parody of I Wanna Dance With Somebody as Jason watches their dance party.
• Jason's goal is to get to The Good Place, and actually makes it at the end of the episode.
• Jason's murder spree on the teens is backed by a cover of "Working for the Weekend".
• Back to the Future's "Your density" line gets dropped by Jason when he kills Jimmy.
• Jason imitates the Head Crusher when killing Doug.
