Here are the shout-outs for Keit-Ai.
- The tagline, "So this is meme magic. Not bad," is a reference to a quote from a key moment used in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.note
- The other tagline linked to Keit-Ai is "Keit-Ai Finds a Way", usually with an image of Jeff Goldblum saying it. This is in reference to Goldblum's character, Ian Malcolm, saying "Life Finds a Way" in Jurassic Park.
- The Keit-Ai concept also has shades of the 2006 film The Lake House, which in turn is based on the 2000 film Il Mare. Both films involve lovers separated by timelines or dimensions.
- Keit-Ai was originally based on Toradora!—its Matchmaker Crush plot, in particular—only this time it supposedly has twice the Ryuuji and Taiga◊.
- The copypasta is also considered an Homage to your typical Makoto Shinkai movie, right down to being a love story dealing with distance (think 5 Centimeters per Second).
- This is ironic in light of how Shinkai's sixth film, Your Name, has been linked or outright claimed to be the anime movie version of Keit-Ai as soon as it was announced.
- The short story version of Keit-Ai references mostly American pop culture, which includes talk of Disney, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, and... ironically enough... Jeff Goldblum as a meme reference for good measure.
- In the Fiction Press version of Keit-Ai, Tomoyuki Yamamoto's universe is a "close-enough" alternate reality to his crush's universe. Meanwhile, Seiko Okamoto's universe is actually ''our'' universe and the events that happened in real-life as we know it.
- In Tomoyuki's universe, certain details diverge from our (Seiko's) real world, like how Michael Jackson was "always black"note , Kurt Cobain didn't commit suicide in 1994, and the Lost Decade of Japan never happened.
- The Keit-Ai fanfic also references K-On!, Final Fantasynote , Kazushi Sakuraba, Fedor Emelianenko, the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather matchnote , Akira Kurosawanote , and the memetic concept of the Mandela Effect.
- In the webcomic version of Keit-Ai, the universes are differentiated by the Color Wash on the drawings. Universe A (Kei Kirishima's universe) is tinted blue a la the green tint of The Matrix. Universe B (Ai Ayazaki's universe) is tinted brown like in Assassin's Creed or the last four Harry Potter films.
- Keit-Ai even has a "Loss" reference.
- The Pun-Based Title of Keit-Ai, Keitæ„›, or Cel-Love features a Bilingual Bonus of combining "Keitai (denwa)" (cellphone) and "Ai" (love) together in as clumsy a way as To Love Ru and Mekakucity Actors.note
