- Big Beautiful Woman: Olivia Cotterill is quite chubby and very attractive.
- The Casanova: Jakob, who is good-looking and very charismatic, leaving him able to woo and impress women with ease. She must have an incredible gaydar.
- Control Freak: Jakob, to Brendan Block proportions. Having control taken away from him causes his Faux Affably Evil facade to crack and Villainous Breakdown to set in.
- Deadpan Snarker: Saskia de Merendol, like most characters played by Katie Mc Grath.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Jakob thankfully Wouldn't Hurt a Child.
- Evil Redhead: Jakob is a rare example of a ginger who most definitely does not have a soul.

- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Saskia is snobbish, jealous and aloof but ultimately devoted to her friends.
- Knight of Cerebus: It has a vaguely soap opera type storyline until Jakob makes his appearance and it suddenly becomes a psychological thriller.

- The Sociopath: Jakob seems to be one of these, in addition to a narcissist.
- Stalker with a Crush: Jakob still desires Melanie and is unwilling to let her move on with her life without him in it.
- Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Happily averted. Despite having cancer, Alex lives!
- Villainous Breakdown: After being suspended from work when his colleagues see him nearly sock Saskia in the face for trying to steal from him, Jakob has an ongoing one.
