Pretty Freekin Scary is a comedy/horror Disney Channel sitcom created by Jason P. Hauser, and based on the book series by Chris P. Flesh.

The series stars 14-year-old Frankie Ripp, a teenager who has a great life in the town of Snickering Willows, until she falls down a manhole and dies, ending up in the Underworld. Begging for a second chance at life, she makes a deal with the Grim Reaper who resurrects her under the conditions she has two bodyguards accompany her — the peppy Pretty and moody Scary — and she becomes the Grim Reaper's assistant and finish a series of tasks for her, while on the risk of losing her life forever should she fail. Rounding out the team is her little brother Remy, and her supernatural-believing emo friend Nyx.

The series premiered on June 15, 2023. It is currently yet to be renewed for a second season despite the first ending on a massive cliffhanger.

This show provides examples of:

  • Aerith and Bob: Two thirds of the title comes from Frankie's companions from the Underworld, Pretty and Scary. Notable moreso because there are other Underworld natives named Christine and Tammy.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Frankie is this to most of her schoolmates after being resurrected, to the point she's often ridiculed or forgotten.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • After dying from falling down a manhole, Frankie is resurrected not long later after making a deal with the Grim Reaper.
    • It turns out, this is how Theodore Snickering, the founder of Snickering Willows, escaped from the Underworld. He flirted with the Grim Reaper, tricked her into sending him back to Earth by pretending to get his watch back, and stole her Book of Souls for good measure.
  • Big Bad: Theodore Snickering, the founder of Snickering Willows, who escaped death to get revenge on the Grim Reaper.
  • The Grim Reaper: Frankie is surprised to see that Death is actually a pretty blonde woman rather than the classic robed skeleton with a scythe.
  • First-Episode Resurrection: The first episode deals with Frankie being resurrected after her death from a manhole accident.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Whenever Frankie isn't listening, the Grim Reaper calls Frankie by her full name.
    Grim Reaper: Francis Eleanor Ripp!!
  • Fun with Acronyms: Remy's club is called S.W.E.A.T.I. (Snickering Willows Eerie and/or Alien Tween Investigators).
  • Garage Band: Frankie and Layla used to have one called "Frayla".
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every episode has the word "life" somewhere in the title, usually as the last word.
  • Immune to Mind Control: The talisman that Grim wanted Frankie to give to Erlic was revealed to keep him from getting affected by Theodore's mind control.
  • Locked into Strangeness: As a side-effect of her resurrection, Frankie gets a permanent white streak in her hair which cannot be dyed. The same thing happened to Theodore before letting his hair go grey to hide it.
  • Narnia Time: Frankie only spent two minutes in the Underworld before her resurrection, while she was dead for two weeks on Earth. According to Scary, time flows faster in the Underworld.
  • The Reveal: It was revealed in "The Game of Life" that Theodore was the one in the trenchcoat on the day Frankie fell down the manhole, and Grim was using it to bring Theodore back to the Underworld but he avoided it and Frankie fell down instead.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Theodore's eyes flash red whenever he unleashes his mind control powers.
  • Rewatch Bonus: After The Reveal that the manhole was opened by Grim to bring Theodore back only for Frankie to fall down instead, the scene where Frankie died in the first episode is put in a whole new light.
  • Secret Identity: Frankie tries to keep her duties to the Grim Reaper a secret from everyone, especially her parents.
  • Secret-Keeper: Aside from Pretty and Scary, Remy is the only one in on Frankie's job as the Grim Reaper's assistant. Nyx finds out midway into Season 1.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Carson towards Nyx.
  • String Theory:
    • Remy has one, which he uses to investigate the supernatural occurances in Snickering Willows.
    • At the end of "The Girl Most Likely to Come Back to Life", Theodore Snickerling is revealed to have this, showcasing occurrences all which point to Frankie.
  • Stopped Reading Too Soon: The contract Frankie signs with the Grim Reaper for her resurrection is really long and would take hours to read, so she doesn't bother to read much of it and only the parts where she put her signature. Remy manages to read the whole contract and finds the one condition Frankie didn't read — that she has to be the Grim Reaper's assistant and finish a series tasks given out, and if she fails, she will return to the Underworld forever.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: At the end of "Life and Death", Theodore cheats death again by sending Erlic to the Underworld in his place, and Christine has taken Grim's position when she is put on trial.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Frankie was dead for two weeks and comes back to life, but this isn't treated as that big a deal past the initial shock. The only attention she continues to get are from those already interested in the paranormal.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Layla used to be Frankie's best friend, but during the time she spent dead in the Underworld, she ended up going out with Frankie's crush Dio and the two eventually drifted apart.
  • Where the Hell Is Springfield?: The exact location of Snickering Willows is not specified.
