Deckart Veniard

A tribal Half-Orc orphaned as a youngster and adopted by a small seaside town. He grew up to become its defender, but thanks to being branded with a strange tattoo in an encounter with a strange creature that he cannot remember, he developed wild magical powers that were presumed to be dangerous.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: He is not much for strategy - just making a beeline for the bad things so he can hit them all that much more. Then again, to him, this is a strategy, because the more he hits things, the more of a threat he becomes. Makes it all the easier to protect others if he's the biggest problem around.
  • Bear Hug: His go-to show of affection.
  • Big Damn Heroes: About as strategic as Deckart can get is to find opportunities to make the best entrance possible to clobber whatever's threatening him or his people.
  • Big Eater: Definitely a big eater, but considering his size, it's pretty understandable.
  • The Big Guy: The biggest in nearly any room and company, and he is almost impossible to topple. See Boisterous Bruiser.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: A big, emotional fellow who is loud and warm and optimistic to a fault.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: And how. Deckart feels a deep responsibility, solely as a person with the gifts of being strong and large, to be a person who others can rely on for protection and will dive into any dangers to save innocents.
  • Determinator: Death is seemingly the only thing that could keep Deckart down.
  • Dork Knight:
  • Emotional Bruiser:
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Deckart was monstrously strong and resilient before he was given his strange brand, but he was still nothing but a Half-Orc with fantastic genes, no magical powers nor superhuman traits. The brand, however, has given him unpredictable magical powers that have made him even more fearsome.
  • Fearless Fool: Not totally a fool, since he understands that his making a beeline for enemies, ripping into their faces, and taking the blows himself is as good a strategy as any, but he rarely if ever considers that some of those enemies might have ways to disable him. He doesn't care to think about these things.
  • The Hero: How he sees himself, but it remains up to debate whether he's the hero.
  • Heroic Build:
  • Hot-Blooded: Par for the course for a Barbarian, and Deckart gets veritably filled with passion and intensity when he sees a chance to dive head-first into what he sees as justifiable conflict.
  • Hunk: Giant, strong-jawed, and handsome for a Half-Orc.
  • Large Ham: Downplayed, but he can become this in a heartbeat if everyone around him seems down and out.
  • The Leader: He sees himself as this often too in addition to seeing himself as The Hero, but again, it remains up for debate. If he is one, it is of the Headstrong type.
  • Leeroy Jenkins:
  • Lightning Bruiser:
  • Magic Knight: Recently became one, though he has less control over the magic than the trope would typically indicate, being prone to explosions of magical energy whenever he enters a heightened state of rage.
  • No-Sell: Par for the course for a Barbarian; Deckart wears no armor but whenever he enters a heightened emotional state, even bladed and piercing weapons hardly scratch him.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: Downplayed and not a kid, but how he tends to operate and view his "role" in life with his strength, his sense of justice, and the way he "unlocked new powers" through his brand.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: His way of fighting isn't pretty and he doesn't have many practical skills that benefit him or others, but he can lift nearly anything within reason and uses his strength to keep people safe.

Sarah

  • Abusive Parents: Sarah was often beaten for seemingly being a weakling despite all of her acute mental talents.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Takes way way to much equipment with her upon setting off on her unwanted adventure, including things that she will likely never need nor use in the slightest. But she is ready for anything and everything she could think of happening, not that she has much experience with what happens on the road.
  • Encyclopaedic Knowledge: Possesses a deep, deep knowledge of various monsters in the world as her chosen field of expertise after she got her start translating and transcribing texts on creatures and can often pull up pieces of information about creatures from her mind on the spot.
  • Enemy Scan: See Encyclopaedic Knowledge. Sarah can take a look at nearly any common creature and have at least a basic understanding of the threat it possesses, and there are a handful of more exotic creatures that she knows a great deal about, too.
  • Friendless Background: Had no friends going up due to her nature and her parents' attempts to drive her to further sharpen her mind and her father's disdain for her weak constitution.
  • Hot Librarian: She is a scholar more than a librarian, but she does handle a lot of books and has librarian-esque glasses and practical attire to complete the look to go with her striking and shiny pink hair, pretty features, and appealing figure.
  • Nerd Glasses: Wears a pair because she spends so much time with her face to her spellbook and other books.
  • Parental Favoritism: For Sarah over Sarah's sister, simply because she was smarter than her sister despite her sister's best efforts. Her sister was driven to try and fight with Sarah, and given her more strong and sturdy body, she often flattened her in the physical sense - but their father especially only cared for Sarah's superior mind.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Sarah and her twin sister; Sarah is mousey and bookish and does not fight physically at all whereas her sister is a tough, ill-tempered warrior.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: A petite human woman with pink hair; keeps suspicion off of her being a changeling. This is actually the form of the actual Sarah who was one of her wizard father's victims.
  • Shapeshifting: As a changeling, she can shapeshift into any humanoid form that is within reason for her normal mass, giving her the ability to appear as anyone. She excuses it as her using the Disguise Self spell whenever she has to use it.
  • The Smart Guy: A wizard and thus automatically the brains of the operation due to her knowledge of spellcasting. However, she is also highly well-read and knowledgeable about various creatures, making her an excellent combat analyst to go along with her brilliant spellcasting skills.
  • Speech Impediment: Tends to stutter when she is outside of her comfort zone, which when she is out adventuring is... everywhere.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Though not particularly weak - she is actually quite in shape considering she has spent a lot of time cooped away in study and transcription - she is not helping anyone with a sword in her hand, but she does have a wealth of knowledge and magical and analytical skills that make her valuable.
